I've had problems with the windscreen on all my Revell P-51's. Here are the areas I am referring to. The windscreen is slightly too narrow and needs those strips to "spread" it slightly. Looks like the one in your 2nd photo fit okay.

Here's another problem fix for this kit. The windscreen piece is just slightly too narrow and leaves noticeable gaps on each side when in place. My remedy is this: Cement in place a couple of short strips of thin styrene (about 1" long) as indicated by the arrow. This will go a long way in fixing THAT problem.

Thanks Peter.

Cockpit ready for install when the kit shows up. I wanted to use a Tamiya instrument panel which has a better look but I found I don't have the needed instrument decals for it. So I used the Revell IP which looks "okay".

Thanks. Yes it does and keeps me busy. LOL

Thanks Martin.

Thanks Peter. I agree. Extra info always adds something to it.

I've been doing some prep work on this one for a week or two. I don't have a complete kit (used the nose section of one on that Trumpeter "B" a while back) but I have one coming from Scale Hobbyist which is supposed to show up Wednesday. In the mean time I've been deciding on which a/c to do and finally settled on Dick Turner's last P-51 "Short Fuse". He had this a/c after returning from a 30 day leave and after "Sallee" bailed on him. Hence the name Short Fuse and no Sallee! I've pretty much got the cockpit section done plus printed some decals with my laser printer to make the needed codes and name, etc. As soon as the kit arrives I'll be that much ahead on the build.

Lots of experience Martin. LOL Thanks!!! -
Thank you Martin, I'm pleased that you like it.

Works that way sometimes!

Coming along nicely Peter.

Thanks Scott!

I know what you mean by having extra parts left over. I have something like 3 kit size boxes full of left over P-51 parts and the same for Corsair parts. They come in handy sometimes!

The Spitfire just isn't up to par and I won't build another. I hope the Hurricane is better but we will see.
-
Yes indeed. It has been a problem also. Remove the raised areas flush with the air scoop. No more problem.
-
Sounds like a plan Ernie. I have some more "stuff" I can add.
-
I wish I had tried it out sooner! Would have saved some cussing!
-
Thank you. This approach saves a lot of fit problem there.

I check their site every so often just in case they have something I want on sale. Pays off for sure!

I've built several of these and always had problems getting the leading edge/guns section to fit into the wings. I'm beginning another build and decided to try this: Cement the leading edge/guns pieces (parts #113/114) in place BEFORE attaching the lower wing section. This way you can adjust the fit much more easily. When you are satisfied with the fit slide the two wheel well pieces (parts #116/117) in place. It will be a light fit but they WILL fit. Then you can finish out the lower wing section and attach it to the uppers without having to contend with poor fitting pieces.
