Tamiya 1/32 F4U-1A Corsair VF-17 #5
JohnB replied to Daywalker's topic in LSM 1/32 and Larger Aircraft Ready for Inspection
ALRIGHT!!! I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves Corsairs! Great looking build Frank. -
The Revell kit I'm using lacks the dorsal spine so I will mate a Tamiya tail section with it. Fit is amazingly close which is a GOOD thing! (It sure helps to have MANY left over parts from previous builds to scrounge from!)
-
Test fitting of the cockpit section to the wing. Took a bit of trimming on the underside to get a good fit. Okay now though I think. If you will click on the 1st pic you can view as a slide show with MUCH better resolution. 😉

Thank you Kai!

Thanks Ernie! -
Yes, that would be neat. I did one in 1/48 using the old Hawk kit many years ago. Never got any decals for it though since no one made them then.
-
The two kits still are molded with about the same lines and contours. Otherwise it would really be a PITA! LOL
-
Test fitting of Tamiya spinner and backing plate with stash prop. Fits okay together (with a little trimming) and with the nose of the kit. Blanking piece in place behind cockpit.
-
I hope so Peter. Right now I'm test fitting things and cleaning up molding tabs. Looks like the Tamiya spinner with the prop out of my stash of leftovers will work just fine. I've removed the fuselage fuel tank and laid in a blanking piece. Next I'll get started painting the interior light gray and go from there.

Thanks!!! -
It's the one without the dorsal strake but my plan is to graft on a tail from one of my Tamiya builds that I didn't need the section with the strake. Test fitting shows it'll match up fairly well. I also have a couple of resin tails with the strake I can use if needed. I THINK I have all the bits and pieces I'll need, seat, prop, drop tanks, etc, so now I'll get started with the build. Fingers crossed!!!

Here's what I've decided to do Peter. I'll start from scratch using a Revell kit. That way I can go on and build it with more accuracy. I just couldn't bring myself to stay with the Tamiya model with the green cockpit! LOL Fingers crossed all will go well.
-
Agreed Peter and thank you! I'm still a bit concerned about the green interior of the model and am trying to come to terms with letting it stay that way since the real a/c had a custom gray painted interior. We'll see what I finally decide, etc.

Thanks for the kind comments Peter. Very much appreciated. -
I had this P-51 partially built so I'm going to use it for the racer. The interior isn't the correct color but I'm not going to try to change that. It'll just have to do as is! LOL

Many thanks Hubert! -
Thanks Kai! I need to do something a bit different right now and this fills that bill nicely.
-
Agreed Hubert!

For something a bit out of the usual I plan to get started on this a/c. I have all the needed parts from my "leftovers" stash plus a Tamiya P-51 I had started a while back but put aside for "later". I guess now is later! LOL I saw one done a while back and it looked really good and that inspired me to do this one. Stay tuned!!!
