P-39 Cobra II ready for inspection
JohnB replied to JohnB's topic in LSM 1/32 and Larger Aircraft Ready for Inspection
Thanks Gus! Agreed, they were a little too big as were the NX numbers on the wings. I'm glad I have the needed equipment to re-size stuff, etc. -
All done. Check completed builds.

Another air racer done! Very colorful Special Hobby P-39Q modeled as "Cobra II" which won the Thompson Trophy in 1946. It's painted with Testors gloss yellow with black control surfaces. Markings are from Draw Decal which needed a couple of "adjustments". The name "Cobra II" was too large as were the NX registration numbers for the wings. I re-sized these and printed replacements using my laser printer. I had to modify a 3-blade spinner to take 4 blades which are from a Tamiya -1D corsair kit. Kind of unusual for the pitot tube to be on the nose plus there is a added air scoop under the fuselage which was added to the a/c to increase air flow to the engine. I didn't want to "dirty up" the model by adding exhaust stains but may change my mind at a later date. I hope you guys like the results of my efforts! Cheap at twice the price Martin! LOL
-
That overall gloss white finish should really look good. Very unusual on a A-26.
-
Thank you Phil. I hope to have it finished later today. Stay tuned! LOL
-
Thanks Troy. Decaling is complete so now I'm attaching the landing gear, etc. Should be done later today! 😀

Got the decals today so it won't be long before it's finished.

Making a little progress on the -26 racer. Pics later.

Thanks you! I'm glad you like the results of my efforts. -
Thanks Peter. As you can tell I like to stay busy.

Started on my next build which is the 1/48 ICM A-26B. This will be another racer build and should really be a eye pleaser. Good for the Group Build.

Thanks Kai! It certainly will stand out in the crowd!

Nice and glossy Gaz! The decals should lay down nicely then I'll overspray with semi-gloss.
-
Easy peasy Peter. It just takes a lot of paint! LOL (I used up all my gloss yellow!)
-
Thank you Peter. It works with all of the lighter colors, white, light gray, etc.
-
Thanks Carl. I agree, yellow can be a problem. As it is I had to apply 2 coats of flat and 3 of gloss to get satisfactory coverage. 🙄
-
Painting completed. Now just waiting for the decals which are supposed to deliver this Friday. Remember to click on the photo for best resolution.

Thanks Peter. Just many years of experience.
-
I decided to go on and paint the black control surfaces. I'll mask them off when I paint the gloss yellow.
-
Thanks Kai. It's just Testor's flat yellow from their little .25 oz bottle. Same with the gloss yellow. I figure using flat yellow for a primer/base coat would work well.
-
All primed with flat yellow and about ready for the gloss yellow. I don't have the decals in hand yet but should be ready for them when they show up.

Good looking 262 build Jerry. Nice work!

It's coming along well Gaz and I hope to have it paint ready in a couple of days.
