1. I like the AK for the color, but I have used the Tamiya and it's close enough for me...
2. I think that's the wooden ship, Occre or some such. I won't be doing any massive surgeries, I have a couple of Shapeways parts, like the B deck front bulkhead, that looks more correct. @DocRob I'm not using wood glue to glue PE to PE, only PE to plastic, a couple of the bulwarks had some tension due to the etching, and they are holding with wood glue, but not with CA for some reason. That was the problem with the hull-plates as well, the plates held for a bit then one edge would peel... pain in the canugies... The waterways, and expansion joints are flat pieces on flat decks with no strain, and they're holding down great with white glue. And it's easy to position, and they're flexible ish after setting, so that they shouldn't pop off... Your wooden ship is magnificent though...
3. I'll try to add a few pictures! A Deck, deck veneers laid down, waterways and expansion joints laid down. I've been using white glue for all of it. It's flexible enough to allow for temperature differences, and seem to hold the PE better than CA glue... She's a big lady! Still have to finish the hull plating at the stern, I will try with the metal plates again, but if that fails, I can add in the plastic plates from Midwest Model Shop. Cheers H.
4. Titanic takes up quite a bit of room... It's taking shape, but the biggest parts need painting.... and some more metal added to the stern. but hope to get at it after this weekend. Have to go golfing with the nephews! The lady as she's awaiting more parts!
5. I'll post more shortly, I'm already well on the way on 'A' deck, just a few (A LOT) of windows to do...
6. This is a multi year project, I have started threads in a few maritime forums, but thought I'd make one here too. This is the progress made THIS month! So got a tiny bit completed on B deck, not much to do, 2nd class restaurant and a couple promenades. and the deck below the bridge. had to work to get the deck to fit, minor surgery. Also fitted the PE sheets for the rails on the outside bulkhead, but only the back plate, the spars will have to happen AFTER the decs are inserted. Pictures are bad, because I was in a rush... Waterways still need a dash of black there! and the ladders came off the rear bulkhead, those will be reattached shortly, with the last deck equipment needed. Shapeways bridgefront there. The doors seem very red, they look more brown in real life. Holes are drilled for portholes, and I have fiberoptic, but I'm questioning my plan to light it. we'll see, once I finish the hull, I'll have to make my mind up... Cheers!
7. Mandarin? Best Chinese in Ontario..
8. Never DID save up enough for that 48th B-52... I'll ever regret that...
9. I concur! I missed your comments and build! Good to have you back!
10. Well I'm an idiot... I searched 32nd, and hence couldn't find them... Gotta go look for 2 seaters now. Thanks!!
11. Those scissors are the cats meow!!
12. I have the 2 seat TF-104 kit, and the LEM decals CF-104 decals… but I don’t have the instructions…. And they don’t exist online so far. I’ve reached out to Leading Edge, but I think there’s a slim chance they’ll reply… so anyone? A scan of the instructions from LEM 32.05.
13. Man your tempo and skill is just amazing! Lovely build!
14. If you only got a bronze with that build ,there must be some very talented builders in your neighborhood!! Because your build is OUTSTANDING!
15. Hardest thing I've done, harder even than the miscarriage we had early on in our relationship... 14 years is a long time. The relocation thankfully won't be too bad, we're just going 2 doors down, better newer home, with A/C, bigger kitchen and attached garage. I can still walk to work, and bike to the golf course, and paint my ship hulls in my garage!
16. The thing I miss the most about no longer living in the SW Ontario, is missing this and the London shows... Still a member of IPMS London, but tough to miss out! Another great show, and I recognize the models of a couple of the London guys!
17. So very sorry to hear this. Harv was a true gentleman. His family has lost something large, and I send my condolences to them. I also would like to offer my condolences to you guys, Harv was a fantastic guy, who helped a lot of us out! RIP Harv.
18. Well, I got a new hobby room. We were going to be in the new diggs temporarily, but we may stay here for the time being. it is quite a bit more spacious than our old place, so that's a bonus, but I still have WAY too much plastic for just one dude. May cull the stash a tad more perhaps. not made a decision yet. Anyways=y, when I'm all set up I'll share a picture or 2! Cheers all!
19. Merry Christmas and congrats to all! Next year will be better for sure! Harald
20. Could do a Gannett. not single engine but single shaft... Doesn't exist in 32nd though H.
21. I'll leave myself out for this year, simply because I'm in the middle of a move requireing every single penny and sense I have... (who are dumb enough to start a new job in January, in Manitoba...) Anyway, Ernie, you're a champ, and so is everyone else! I'll rejoin next year! Harald
22. I just got a new job... So I'll be packing the bench again (feck, it may stay packed for a bit, we may be able to buy a house in the not too distant future!) But it's exiting!
23. I have used it with success! H.
24. Good to see you back! I am a member of a local of IPMS in Canada that does weekly "grey-butt" zoom calls. If anyone had zoom, perhaps that would be a viable thing, like a weekly bullshit session, with a computer on in the corner with the camera and mic on to talk shit back and forth? I really enjoy those, and it allows discussion of good and bad parts whilst relaxing with a bevvie and some friendly banter. Works well long distance too! Cheers Harald
