  1. John Nice recovery and the repairs look perfect. I'm adding a few bottles of Testors GSB to the paint racks as it seems to be the best rendition of the color. MOst others seem to have a bit too much green in them for my eye.
  2. Hubert Thanks for the info and I'm way to traditional to go with anything but semi gloss black Keep 'em comin Peter
  3. Thanks Carl very much appreciated. Learning to mix and match AM, takes a bit of forethought, of which I didn't use any and now have a lot of Barracuda resin left over and not used. But the plus side, I have more Tamiya Spits in the stash, plus the Revell Mk II and of course, I'm waiting for the Kotare Spit Mk Ia to make its appearance late this fall. With no new 32nd scale WWII Tamiya kits anywhere on the radar. adding to the stash seems to be a natural. Holy Smokes a bright red Merlin - sure looks like a chevy bloc to me plus those chrome valve covers. Pretty cool, what's on the bench requiring that, Merlin? MY Merlin is almost completely paint and already painted, waiting in the side lines now until I reach that stage in the instructions. Keep 'em comin Peter
  4. Dennis I sure hope so. Carl posted a tutorial on how to you masks, whioch I bookmarked and will be following to the "T". Keep 'em comin Peter
  5. Very nicely done. Fit and finish look spot on the money. Keep 'em comin Peter
  6. John No question in my mind, this bad boy under your skilled hands, will be done and all the issues sorted out. Keep 'em comin Peter
  7. Kai Glad to see your doing well and the Highschool exam reunion was a nice bonus. 41 years ago, where does the time fly? Looking forward to your next build in a weeks time. Keep 'em comin Peter
  8. Thanks Kai So glad you are going to be along for the journey and as with all my Tamiya builds, no major stumbling blocks at all, except the self-inflicted ones. A few first are being planned for the Spit Combining both the Quinta and Barracuda upgrade sets as each as their own details to contribute. The biggest newbie is I'm planning on using the Maketar mask set, as I've only used masks in the past for the canopies. So lots to learn and look forward to. Keep 'em comin Peter l
  9. Thanks Kai, very much appreciated. Great kit a load of enjoyment by the barrel full. I'm planning on first starting my Tamiya Spitfire Mk XVIe and when I reach it's priming stage, starting my next race car build. Unfortunately. I tend to waver a lot as the breeze blows and the longer the time in between builds, the more I keep changing my mind. Right now the Castrol Jag seems to be the next car build but I've just added the Silk Cut Jag and an awesome Corvette C7.R. Loads of choices and which hits the bench could be anyone's guess at this point. Keep 'em comin Peter
  10. Ernie Looking forward to you taming the Helldiver. Keep 'em comin Peter
  11. John Incredible ... just can't be but I guess also included in the kit box is an official jinx! I'm in the same camp as Ernie and these days even if I wash all the parts or not prior to starting, before priming, I always now thoroughly wipe down the model with Isopropanol at if I still feel any grease, I'll do a wipe down with Mr Color Self Leveling Thinners and when dry, follow up again with the alcohol. So far I've been pretyy lucky. With the Spit, I'm going to be using masks for the first time, and lifting/peeling paint is a new concern for me. Fingers crossed, this is the end of the trouble and from here on the waters are smooth sailing. Keep 'em comin Peter
  12. John Brilliant ... you made it and went where nearly no man has gone before! Beautiful work Keep 'em comin Peter
  13. Thanks Phil Great kit and going to be a fun build for sure. Only way I can get semi close to John's speed, is ship him the kit and he'll build it for me 😉 I've built now quite a few Tamiya Spits and still have a few more in the stash. If memory serves me correctly, the Spitfire was Tamiya initiation into their large scale WWII fighters. One thing I'm remembering as I go, bot the Spit and Mustang had some toy like features ala Trumpeter PE hinges and movable control surfaces that completely vanished by the time the Corsair series hit the shelves. Just a lot of extra work that really doesn't serve any purpose. I'm solidly in the positional camp and more then that, proved to be unnecessary. I built the same Airfix kit in the early seventies and from what I remember, what a beast. But just getting it built was an accomplishment. I didn't even have a compressor, just cans of Pasche air and I know I must have set a record on how many cans of air I used. Keep 'em comin Peter
  14. Dennis Sounds great - looking forward to the builds Keep 'em comin Peter
  15. Thanks Mike So far cruising along and enjoying the Quinta and Barracuda AM parts to add the right amount of extra detail. Keep 'em comin Peter
  16. Thanks Gaz Always love working on the front office of a build. So far, Tamiya is living up to its reputation - well-fitting detail parts and all the screw ups belong to the builder. Keep 'eem comin Peter
  17. John Maybe it's time to start working more and more in 48th scale so precious display spce can be found? Keep 'em comin Peter
  18. John You're easily becoming the conquering hero. Gear on and looking good Keep 'em comin Peter
  19. Thanks Kev I know what you mean. When I was working, it was always six days a week for all my life until close to retirement. A good deal of the time, I wish I was working again as there is way too much free time on my hands. Keep 'em comin Peter
  20. Thanks Hubert Always a good feeling starting a kit with the front office, no issues to deal with and satisfying progress. Keep 'em comin Peter
  21. Hi Rob, much appreciated. From what I can tell, there are two IP's in the kit, I used the one in the instructions for the Mk XVIe and the Quinta IP matches that. So I would have to say the IP's are not the same. Quinta is the same as Tamiya. I might try and pull the shoulder harnesses down a bit but the vinyl seemed to have a mind of it's own and still a million times more realistic then the s/s ones in the kit.. Keep 'em comin Peter
  22. Gaz Looking good and sorry to see you had to backtrack, strip the paint and start over. In the end it's always the best way to go as you'll never be happy that you didn't. Keep 'em comin Peter
