  4. Tamiya Spitfire MkXVIe 1/32 Scale With the Meng GT40 and the Revell Embraer 190 done and in the books, it was time to look at my next projects. For me nothing better then enjoying a Tamiya kit and so the Spitfire Mk XVIe begins. My alternating build is going to be either the Hasegawa Castrol XJR9 or the Revell Corvette CR.7 but which ever build won’t be started for quite a while as I need to first make major progress on the Spitfire. AM purchased for the build: Barracuda – Five Resin detail sets, as I would pick and choose what I needed. Quinta – 3D Cockpit Detail set with Sutton harness Maketar Mask set to be use along with the kit decals. A first for me. Ammo by Mig RAF WWII Late Colors set of Acrylic Paints MRP Paints for the interior and all other colors not covered with the Mig set. Primer: MRP Light Gray And let the fun begin For starters, I needed to make a decision as to how to incorporate both the Quinta and Barracuda AM sets. Barracuda – are resin replacements for a lot the kit parts, adding more details and correcting a few inaccuracies. Quinta .. 3D vinyl decals for the front office and they are meant to enhance the existing parts and bring the cockpit up to a new level of detail. Having used Quinta cockpit decals twice in the past, I decided to go the Quinta route of enhancing the kit parts and then add the Barracuda resin parts as needed and there were quite a few used even at this stage. I just love Quinta 3D cockpit decal sets and I went with the full monte incorporated into the Tamiya front office. I started with the IP and worked my way around including the leather seatback padding, Sutton harness set and all the almost limitless decals and placards. What I thought would have taken a few work sessions, easily was a full three plus and then I started adding the Barracuda resin AM parts as needed. Combining the kit parts with both Quinta and Barracuda brought the front office up to a new level of detail. I still need to finish the IP (I lost the kit gun sight and used the resin Barracuda sight), some light weathering and dry brushing will be needed. Numerous other Barracuda resin parts will be used in the front office and canopy, but I haven't gotten that far yet. The joy stick is still not glued into place as it’s final position will be determined on the set of the elevators. I also gave Ammo by Mig Ultra Glue a try for adding the Quinta vinyl decals for the first time. I found I still prefer Micro Kristal Klear as it’s not as fussy to work with and for all the small decals used CCA. So far, a joy to build, no issues at all, typical Tamiya.. 10. Rob That's how I did things in the old days as well, as back then we were fearless and never a concern, besides who knew? Now as time as past by and health issues for everyone in the house is a major concern, I try to exercise as much precaution and safety as possible. After long painting sessions, I'll also head out for other areas in the house, leave the windows open and let the air clear as well. Keep 'em comin Peter
  11. Gaz I tried once but how I work; it just doesn't seem to flow. Ff course, my part of the agreement with the chief: I have my studio and that's where I work and paint. So far, our hobby agreement has worked perfectly for almost 53 years. Yup, time sure does fly by and I wouldn't change a thing. Keep 'em comin Peter
  12. Hubert Absolutely the most important rule to follow 👩‍🦱 Keep 'em comin Peter
  13. Scott Excellent precaution and I'll add it to painting regiment. This time of the year, when I'm done painting, I also leave the windows open to help vent the room. Keep 'em comin Peter

  16. John Amazing work - I'm glad you're winning the war and hopefully the Helldiver will go down the line quietly from here on in. 🤞 Keep 'em comin Peter
  17. John 'A thing of beauty'. Just hard to believe a kit can have so much that is poorly molded, fit issues galore and it just never seems to end. John, you have nerves of steel and I'm betting a 40ft trailer had to show up in the last few days with cases of new 'cuss factors'. I could never, ever have gotten as far as you have and mine would have been long ago donated to the recycle plastic bin that goes out on Wednesdays. Keep 'em comin Peter
  18. Bill The PE details look amazing and I'm sure it has tested your nerves as they go on. Hopefully the carpet monster stayed home and is nowhere to be found. Keep 'em comin Peter
  19. Since being diagnosed with cancer about three years ago and going though chemo, I am extra cautious with my painting procedures. Regardless of the type of paint being air brushed (I'm moving towards acrylics for military modeling), solvent or acrylic paints, I always wear a very good respirator and my paint/spray booth hooked up and running. The paint booth is vented to the outside through a window with ducting made for this purpose and the remaining open space sealed with foam, so that no paint fumes and particles can be blown back into the room. When I'm finished air brushing, I thoroughly clean my air brush, eye droppers and pipets, etc in the spray booth which is still running and still wearing my respirator. I try to take as many precautions as I can. When finished and cleaned up, at this point I turn off the paint booth and remover my respirator. Doesn't take much longer to be as careful as possible. Just wish I knew about this years ago. Keep 'em comin Peter

  23. Yikes John, that a pretty wide cut and really shows how bad the fit was. Thank goodness there is a canopy frame on top to save the day. Keep 'em comin Peter
