Phil I also build mostly OOB with the exception of sometimes a Quinta cockpit and or decals. -

Dennis Nice progress - masks/paint wok looks perfect. Glad the repair work is done and looking good as well. -
Thanks Carl for the link but I went with Mr Hobby, as I've used it for years. I did check out the Tamiya orange cap thinner and of course, it's not sold in the US by any of my standard vendors.

Thanks Scott Going to order a bottle which last me a good amount of time. The other link is for the tinner without any reducer and the reason for thew difference in price. Peter

Phil Yup, life always seems to get in the way and some mighty awesome work on your Eduard Profi Zero ... The office looks tremendous. Surely going to be a beauty. -
Finding Mr Hobby Self Leveling Thinner (400ml) bottles is getting to be a tough act as most vendors are out of stock. Another shortage? Looking at using AK Real Color Thinners in 400ml bottles.

Carl Looking so good and I remember doing mine and reaching this stage - what a great feeling knowing the toughest part of the build is over and the real fun of paining and final assembly is at hand.

I use all three methods of masking off wheel wells: tape, foam and wet paper; towel and toilet paper. I use which ever seems to work the best and sometimes, none do and then it's a tough act to find a solution. Best yet is when a separate set of wheel covers/doors are included for wheels up and fit display and they are the perfect mask. -
Rob The kit is amazing and you are going to love it. Mine had the resin exhaust and the pilot figure as well. Use the Quinta cockpit set and their seatbelts which kept breaking. Follow the color callouts and you're home free.

Paul Yup, always best way is to use up what we bought and have and then move on if needed. 👍

Dennis Looking forward to following your build thread, as I don't think I've seen one of the early Spits actually built. Will be very interested to see how it compare to the Kotare mid Mk 1a version.

Rob Maybe the deterioration I experienced with the plastic cup from the thinner more then the solvent based paint? Since I've been using the medical variety of plastic cups, I haven't had any bad incidents but who knows what the future will bring. I just remember the old days, using only Model Master Enamels, their thinner and also Pactra enamel paints - no problems or issues at all.

Whi knows ... we have laws covering everything and way too complicated. Only people who don't read and try to follow the laws ... the bad guys

Scott I wonder why mine melted through. Could be the Wendy's I use to frequent bought their supplies from a different company?
-
Paul I've used the glass eyedroppers for years and lost count on how many I've broken and I've just gotten lazy cleaning them after use. I've found the pipettes quicker and no cleanup at all.
-
Thanks Brother Bear, always there with a helping hand. Got ya ... will be changing to the 1/2 oz cups next time around. Also never thought of marking the pipettes as I've always used glass eye droppers and was constantly cleaning them. Will be marking them as well. Geez, never thought of using a dental tool to measure the amount of paint and thinner. Will also give it a try.
-
Hi Scott I used to do the same and when I used the ketchup cup with solvent based paints, the solvents melted the cups to my surprise.

Martin I took an honest look at the Magic Factory Corsairs and compared them to the Tamiya Corsair on the bench ... it's no contest. I never thought I would say this but Tamiya in this case has only won the silver medal and the gold goes to Magic Factory. The MF Corsairs are state of the art, detail is in another league, where a lot seems to have been borrowed from Tamiya 32nd scale kits in concept. Decals are gorgeous Cartograph, two sets of markings per version and there is a full-size color painting guide for each of the four aircraft. I'm sure MF will be bringing out more Corsairs and that's where I'll be going. Will be using one of the decals sets from the Magic Factory kit on my Tamiya Corsair as well. I've also took a quick look at the MiniArt P-47D and having already built Tamiya's Bubble Jug, the Mini Art kit looks as if it also will de-thrown the king for this aircraft as well. Times are changing and both Tamiya kits while awesome fall a bit short of the latest kits.

Peter . Holy Cow, simply astonishing work ... the detail and precision are beyond amazing. Surely by the end of this build I most likely will stop having anything to say as I will have completely run out of compliments. Might just need to keep increasing the number of OMG -
Oliver Very much appreciate the 'How To". I should have asked myself years ago.
-
Martin I'll check it out later today as there are two kits in the box: F4U-1 and a F4U-1A - the box is big, heavy and seems to be jammed with loads of sprues.
-
Just arrived and still waiting for one more kit to arrive. 200 of each, should hopefully last for a while. Just grew tired of cleaning out glass eye droppers and s/s mixing tinlets.

Kotare Spitfire Mk 1A
Peterpools replied to Peterpools's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Thanks Kev, very much appreciated. A wonderful kit for sure and what a way for Kotare to break into the market. -
Thanks PW and completely agree ... back in the 90's Tamiya raised the bar for precision and detail. Thoroughly enjoying the Corsair and the only part so far that had a few fit issues was the front windscreen. Yup, had to clean up molding lines and some injector marks that were where they shouldn't have been but other then that, a gem. Looking forward to seeing your Mossie build - how about doing a build thread for us.
