  1. Welcome back, Well there has been a lot going on but not much to show for it. The past couple of weeks has seen me continue to tidy up seams and prepare for painting. I also dipped and masked all the canopies both inside and out: The PE parts that go underneath the central canopy have been painted and attached. I did this as I intend to attach the central and forward canopy pieces prior to painting, masking the voids with tape. Once the exterior marks come off they will be very noticeable: I also had a go at filling the void behind the landing light. I inserted the end of a cut off plastic stem from a cotton bud. It gave a nice circular look and then painted the end chrome silver. The cover was then cemented into place. Not entirely happy with the look but at least there is now something behind the glass: At least I have settled upon a scheme: And with the central and forward canopies on, you can just make out the leather crash pad on the gun sight: Thanks for looking.
  2. Welcome, I started this build when it was first released in 2007/08 and then shelved it for whatever reason. It has languished on my shelf of procrastination since then and when I finished the Defiant, I vowed to do one of the kits that lay languishing. I decided to do this one, as it was amongst the oldest kits there and I felt in a good place to be able to tackle it: Pulling the kit out, I took stock. I had almost completed the construction as the cockpit was finished and installed, the wings were on and the Quickboost engine had been installed into the starboard nacelle: The RLM 02 I had used for the cockpit back then was the Vallejo Air grey/green and it really looked too dark then and still does now but it was staying. I had decided to close the forward gun bay and the nose had been cemented into shape and roughly sanded. The engine nacelles had been attached and the well known gap addressed with filler (I think it was Vallejo acrylic filler) as well as the gaps on the underside wing joins. All in all it looked a bit rough and ready and probably reflected where I was, mindset wise, in 2007. The canopy had been taped over, the gaps taped and the kit put onto the shelf: I set about tidying up the seams, removing the steps created by hasty gluing and alignment on the wings and getting rid of all the basic errors. I finished off the MLG bays with the remaining kit pieces, Eduard PE and some styrene. I then completed the lower gear assemblies, fitted the brake lines and shot Aeromaster RLM 02 on all the interior surfaces except the cockpit. It is much lighter than the Vallejo Air and a better representation IMHO: The engine nacelles were cleaned up and the lower inlet pieces fitted. The majority of the piece sits on panel lines except the curved section at front which is smooth. So out with the sanding sticks and Mr Surfacer. The exposed engine had a little more detail added with some more piping to go: The position lights on each wingtip were removed and the location defined. I will add some CMK position lights later on. The kit wheels are incorrect for a C model, so the Aerocast AM wheels had been partially painted and marked P and S. They have now been masked and the brass details added, awaiting a coat of black: The MG15 was assembled from kit parts, PE, resin and a lot of luck. Naturally after this photo the rear gun sight was flung to the far corners of the earth and a replacement has been sourced. Which allowed me to reverse the front ring side with the rear post as it should be: The DF antenna is made of two loops but produced as a single part. Judicious use of an RB ultra fine saw and a lot of luck resulted in an equal split down the middle to crate the two rings: The rear stabilisers have been added and the whole frame given a general tidy up to bring it to a point where I am almost happy to move on. There is some re-scribing to be done and rivets to be replaced before I commit to paint: I am still to settle on a scheme but I am leaning to the night fighter scheme (L1+DH) from the kit or one of Falck's early birds from the AM Techmod decals. The canopy sections have been dunked in Pledge (Future) and are drying and the PE details for the closed section of the canopy are being assembled. Thanks for checking in.
  3. I think it is the better way to go, one in-all in so to speak. Looking very nice too. Regards,
  4. May I present my rendition of Airfix's recent release of the 1/48 scale BP Defiant. Finished in one of the kit schemes of an aircraft from 264 SQN, RAF in Suffolk, 1940. The level of detail OOB is excellent and provides a great start if you wish to add more details such as Eduard PE, Brassin exhausts and Master Barrels as I have used. The "A" scheme was done courtesy of Miracle Paint Masks excellent camouflage masking set and my thanks to Mal for making an excellent and easy to follow set. The kit is well engineered and goes together well, however it lacks some details such as the underside flare chute covers and wing fuel filler points (the stencils are on the decal sheet). These are not hard to replicate and with a little work are easily added. The resulting model is an asset to any collection: Thanks for looking,
  5. He shoots....he scores! Well done Jeroen. Maybe, as a cost saver, they just used the instructions from another (48 scale) kit set? Anyway, instructions are just some other guys suggested build sequence. Your build is looking great! Regards,
  6. Bravo Jeroen, "Top of your game", couldn't have said it better. Regards,
  7. May I add my congratulations to those already offered. A great build result and no doubt a relief to have it finished and (hopefully) on display. Regards,
  8. Congratulations Jeroen, Another tour de force from you. A unique approach to finished build. Thanks for sharing and inspiring the modelling community. Regards,
  9. Simple, neat and effective. Trademarks of your work matey! Regards,
  10. Paul, I have these kits to build. Any further updates? I have found the 2 hole stanchions with 1mm hole but the 6mm stanchions from Caldercraft seem to only have a 0.70mm diameter hole. There are others by Aeronaut which seem similar to the ones in your pics but no hole diameter is mentioned. I will have to source 1mm wire locally as I am in Australia and the company you got yours from don't ship to Australia. Great work BTW. Regards,
  11. I will be looking into this. The RAN flew these and HMAS Nowra is just down the road from me and they have one there. It will round out my RAN collection of to be built!
  12. Very nice Ralph, Different, eye catching and well executed. Regards,
  13. Happy Birthday Jim, Disregard the comments about being follicle absent, they are just jealous. I raise my glass to you. Regards,
  14. Very cool mate, Other words are not sufficient to explain how much I like this. Regards,
  15. Thanks lads, I shall have a look at those options. Regards,
  16. Hello all, I have the HPH 1/32 ship's catapult that I am keen to use to set my Revell Ar196 A3 upon. My quest involves obtaining "in scale" cable for said catapult. In smaller scales, I would probably use Ezi line or some similar item to represent the launch cables. However in this scale, I would like to use a 'proper' cable. I have thought of thin copper cable stripped from electrical appliance. But I believe that requires three strands X 3 to be woven individually into thin cable and then these three cables woven together in the opposite direction to create the thicker launch cable. Is this correct? Not an unattainable task, but if somebody has done the work for me, who am I to not support their skill and endeavours and pay them for their product? Many thanks for your time,
  17. Here is my first (but not my last) Star Wars themed build from Bandai. A fun build that was challenging in that I wanted to remove the toy-like appearance of the kit. The WIP is here. Regards,
  18. Finally finished up the build. I resprayed the lower legs Tamiya Flat white and once dry, I applied a coat of Testors Glosscote from the bottle through my Grex. I also painted the base with Tamiya German Grey from the rattle cane and applied one of the kit stickers: Thanks for following what has turned out to be an enjoyable, if somewhat educational, build. Regards,
  19. Wouter, I would leave the colours as they are and address your concerns with weathering, filters or another process. To me the colours/scheme look good (particularly the mottling) so I think you are on the right track. Regards,
  20. I found the problem..... Curse you male genetic code for not reading instructions! I can attempt a respray or I might just swap out the legs with the Sandtrooper. Regards,
  21. Thanks guys. I hit a small hurdle late yesterday. I had masked and repainted the lower leg as with Tamiya flat white. It gave a good approximation of the original colour. After about an hour I hit it with Testors Gloss enamel as a topcoat. I went away for a few hours to let it dry. When I got back, the parts were a nice gloss but had yellowed considerably! It was literally chalk and cheese! I first thought of masking and respraying, then using a lacquer but as I have the Sandtrooper to come next, I will just swap out the lower legs and feet: Regards,
  22. Having completed construction, the next obvious step was to disassemble him. I did this so I could paint the black plastic parts in matt black, hopefully to negate the toylike appearance: I had used cement on the torso so it meant a bit of masking to preserve the nice white armour: The ankles were treated to some fill in work with Perfect Plastic Putty: Ande here we are at the moment. The matt black looks much better than the shiny version. The blaster has been painted MM gun metal and highlighted with a combination of silver and HB pencils. The kit decals were used on the helmet and went on well with Set/Sol but the little buttons in the front of the armour were painted: The legs and ankles still need a bit of work and then a repaint and gloss coat: Regards,
  23. Main construction complete. This is one option, you get three pairs of hands as well as a different pistol and the MG34. The beauty is I can now disassemble him and do the touch ups and decals. I think I will spray all the black parts in matt. The weapons will get repainted and weathered a tad: Thanks for looking,
