Jamme Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Hi Johan. Thank you for sharing the pics. Cheers, Jamme
rkranias Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Johann, great info resource you are. really interesting info on this plane. I never knew. Always nice learning something, makes waking up in the morning so worth it. 1
Wingco57 Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 IIRC Russian aircraft were made from moulded birch strips over a former. Cees
Grant Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 I'm really enjoying this proliferation of aircraft laid bare. I've just ordered some of Uschi's Super Fine Veneer Plywood which might suit this kind of build too.
Administrators James H Posted July 4, 2013 Administrators Posted July 4, 2013 Dude, you are a hero! Also...oh man...diagonal? That won't be a massive pain or anything...(but it should look awesome if I can pull it off) ....piece of piss! Uschi decal? Soft pencil demarcation and strips made up from a combination of Knotless rich and pale decal. 1

Administrators JeroenPeters Posted July 6, 2013 Author Administrators Posted July 6, 2013 Today my Vector Resin full engine and engine bay/cowling arrived. Just beautiful chuncks of lovely resin... I already had a Vector engine for this kit, but that is useless unless: - you're content with having a resin engine of 20+ euro's only to be seen through the small cowling louvres, - or you're willing to scratch the entire mounting frame and cowling panels. The wood grain decals are on their way. James taught me a great trick. Drop them in Cava instead of water. I brings out a richness. He discovered this by accident I have to add. Cheers! Jeroen

Administrators JeroenPeters Posted July 6, 2013 Author Administrators Posted July 6, 2013 Hackin' away! Almost half of the fuselage has been cut away. Making room for resin. Not a terribly good fit and poor instructions, but I'll get there...
Grant Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Hang on !??? Are you allowed to start this yet??? What about the Ninak ??
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted July 6, 2013 Author Administrators Posted July 6, 2013 Hang on !??? Are you allowed to start this yet??? What about the Ninak ?? Hi Grant, the misses said it was alright. As long as I clean up after me I did some rigorous rigging on the Ninak today, but after one glass of wine I switch to the more... well... crude chopping on the I-16. This is the page I'm using as a reference by the way. Bookmarked it years ago for a day like this... http://vvs.hobbyvista.com/Modeling/Polikarpov/I-16/Type5/Azur/FullBuild/Sekularac/ 1
Johann Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 From hobby craft have problems with the geometry of the fuselage. By the way if there is interest I can share the book by I-16 1

PLEASE tell me you're doing skis as well - in which case you're forgiven for switching builds. I absolutely love the one that's shown on that site, it's gorgeous - I wonder whether the skis were made of wood??? @ Johann: Like your Russian User banner, It's really cool?
Johann Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 I wonder whether the skis were made of wood??? @ Johann: Like your Russian User banner, It's really cool? Skis were made of wood, the bottom is finished with aluminum I hope that I have not violated by placing his version banner?
Johann Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 without archive, book in PDF Two books with interesting pictures and good drawings. There are old books 40 and 41, with the technical descriptions and drawings of parts and airframe Institut TsAGI
Dave J Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Fantastic Start Jeroen! This will be a cracking build indeed! Skis were made of wood, the bottom is finished with aluminum I hope that I have not violated by placing his version banner? Not at all... Most of the banners on LSM have been made by Jeroen

I just got a pop up window with a naked lady but I'm not complaining Thanks again. Especially the drawings in the first book are welcome. They show me how the wood panels turn around the fuselage.

Wingco57 Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Ah the stage has been set, let the Polikarpov commenceth.... Cees
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted July 7, 2013 Author Administrators Posted July 7, 2013 Ah the stage has been set, let the Polikarpov commenceth.... Cees Hi Cees, Set... and taking shape. The nose has been cut off. The gun fairings have been cut out. And the forward lower wing fairing has been removed with brute force. Resin sidewalls in place. Doors cut out (these will feature PE open doors). In reality the cowling slitted over the forward fuselage and that feature is nicely replicated in resin. Very thin. And yes... this baby will have skids.
Grant Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 The surgical skills of a neurosurgeon ... looks good Jeroen and the fact that you're adding skids has made me a very happy boy.
