Kriss Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 Another model flew into the workshop, one of those that are lingering in the cupboard and I still have a lot of it and my wife is whining about how much of it (good stuff) I still have and when I'm going to do it. So I'm getting on with the build, but one that's straight out of the box and how I'm going to make it. Introducing the Curtiss A-8 ‘SHRIKE’ in 1:48 from Czech Model, for me it's a bit of an exotic theme and there will be such themes between Italian and Polish themes. And this is how the box and its contents look like, and there is only one painting and two markings of the machine 80 and 83. 6
Martinnfb Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 Another interesting choice of an unusual aeroplane, pulling out my cozy chair. Cheers Martin 1
GusMac Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 Another interesting choice Kriss. Definitely looks like something someone has put together after a rummage in the spares box. 3
Kriss Posted April 25, 2024 Author Posted April 25, 2024 I agree that this 'Shrike' looks to have been built from whatever they happened to have on hand. 3
Administrators Fran Posted April 25, 2024 Administrators Posted April 25, 2024 I have this one on my stash so i will be watching closely. 3
Kriss Posted July 21, 2024 Author Posted July 21, 2024 After a long hiatus of my absence I have returned. I managed to do the interiors of both cabs, still in parts and am checking the fit of everything. 7
Kriss Posted July 28, 2024 Author Posted July 28, 2024 Compartments of both cabins ready to be fitted into the fuselage. 6
Kriss Posted July 29, 2024 Author Posted July 29, 2024 Fuselage and all elements to be found in the fuselage ready. In addition to this, the inlet above the engine is cut out, there are cut-outs in the fuselage for six windows, four of which are already inserted. The two upper windows will be inserted when the fuselage is closed, it will be easier for me to make them. In the horizontal stabilisers I drilled a hole for the locating pins and in the fuselage I also drilled one. That would be it, I am now off to paint the interior and exhaust. 6
Kriss Posted August 5, 2024 Author Posted August 5, 2024 The hull closed, the interiors of both crew compartments fitted almost perfectly. There was a bit of sanding. I also added two panes of glass to the top of the fuselage. Now working on the rest of the model. 7
Kriss Posted September 9, 2024 Author Posted September 9, 2024 Curtiss is taking shape and catching the geometry, moving slowly but forward. 7
Kriss Posted September 16, 2024 Author Posted September 16, 2024 Chassis on the workshop ready to be closed, pre-sanded, wheel axles and holes drilled for them, and colour applied. 7
Kriss Posted September 28, 2024 Author Posted September 28, 2024 I have been looking through archive photos and modelling forums for inspiration on how to make the stretches. There is a lot of material and I will do the tensioning as I always do. So the mounting eyes are done and are already fixed in the model except for the ones on the wings, there they will be only after the decals are applied. 4
Kriss Posted September 29, 2024 Author Posted September 29, 2024 Masks done and time to paint the glazing. 6
Kriss Posted October 5, 2024 Author Posted October 5, 2024 Only the glazing still needs to be fixed and the primer can be applied, slowly and forward. 6
Kriss Posted October 12, 2024 Author Posted October 12, 2024 Primer laid and without amendments the build came out, now the camouflage colours to be applied remain. 6
KevinM Posted October 12, 2024 Posted October 12, 2024 Looking really Nice Kriss you do like to go off the beaten path. 1
Kriss Posted October 20, 2024 Author Posted October 20, 2024 So I have the first camouflage colour applied already, now camouflage and the next colour and slowly the end of the build is approaching. 5
Kriss Posted October 26, 2024 Author Posted October 26, 2024 Curtiss is getting its colours, just the red panel left to go and the decals can be applied. 4
Kriss Posted October 31, 2024 Author Posted October 31, 2024 I was very apprehensive about the decals from the kit due to their age, I didn't know how they would behave during application but it turned out that my fears were completely unnecessary. They reacted very well with the decal liquids. I was most pleased with the superb fit on the underside of the fuselage between the two diagonal stripes and the checkerboard. 5
Kriss Posted November 3, 2024 Author Posted November 3, 2024 The stretches managed to be done and somehow they look good. All that remains is for me to put all the loose parts together and the model will be ready. 3 1
belugawhaleman Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 Great build....like to see lesser know subjects built, especially the interwar era. The name "Shrike" reminds me of an obscure Cowboy Junkies song of the same name. 2
