Wingco57
I am a fan of Mr Surfacer, great stuff. Now the tailplane and main wingroot fairings stand out more With a coat of the magic liquid. N First time I used it, not the last time. Next trying to cut out the vac canopies. The painting stage is rapidly approaching. Wingco57
Hmm well, errr I fouled up both the observer and pilot's vacform canopies, bugger!!! Oh well, have to find me a new set on ebay, in the meantime I need a simple Kit to restore my motivation, That Trumpeter Bearcat is beckoning me, hmmmm Cees
Wingco57
Now that the Tempest is finished and the Revell Typhoon hasn't arrived yet, I will take this one from the shelf of doom. I had mucked up the vacform canopies and so far a new set Hasn't been found. In the meantime I will start with the rocket blast shields. Pics later when some Progress has been achieved. Cheers Cees
One-Oh-Four
Hi Grant, Nice pic, yes the Americans used Beau's too. Reversed Lend-lease IIRC. But I like the Coastal Command version with invasion stripes, so that will be it. Newsflash, The wings are on, bloody thing fought me all the way, but I won, for now. What A beast, and heavy too. Had to remove quite a lot from the wingroots to avoid a Corsair gull wing look. Fit is terrible and nearly gave me a fit. Cees Ey Cees, Will you please after finishing post some pics of this brute in the Beaches To Berlin Finished Builds Post? Purely as an appetizer.... Wingco57
Some visible progress. The rocket blast shields are nearly finished. Some scribing to do. At the front A strip of Tamiya tape will represent a doped piece of fabric to seal the edge. Later a flat plate with the rocketlaunchers will be fitted on the shields. I am Happy how this has turned out as he shape is quite complicated. Cheers Cees

RalphSarc
Hi Cees. Don't know how I missed your Beaufighter build. It's really coming along well! I built one just before joining LSM. It was the last of my spray can, Tester Glue Tube models, lol! Had a terrible time with the old decals as these kits are 30 year old plus vintage Revell kits. Seeing your build makes me want to revisit a Beaufighter build using my vastly improved skills! Here's a picture over-spray and all, lol!!
Wingco57
Hi Ralph, It would sure make a great comparison how your skills have improved. Just go for it. In the meantime I have applied a first brush coat of white. As the original aircraft had crudely painted invasion stripes I want to represent this as well. Density will be built Up slowly. These Aircraft weathered heavily. Cheers Cees
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted June 16, 2014 Administrators Share Posted June 16, 2014 Nice! The beast is taken for a stroll again! Did you paint white on the model or over a coat of paint?
Wingco57
On the model, as a thin layer. The real stripes were pretty rough so I want to replicate that. On second thought irregular stripes on a model would look a bit too much so have to find a compromise. Not too straight and not too sharp. Hmm Cees

Love the idea of hand brushing the D-Day stripes as you are right they didn't always do a neat job of them and most were hastily painted. I look forward to watching your progress!
Wingco57
Second thin coat is on, still no good covering, so another coat is needed. But the Streaky look of it is nice. Cees

Wingco57
Forgot to mention, this is a TF X. Will add another coat of white, then difficult masking off on The fuselage with those portly curves. Wings will be much easier. Cees
