ScottsGT Posted September 29 Posted September 29 We had to have the alternator changed on our 2021 Pilot. There was no way I was reaching it with my back issues. $1600 at the dealership. Yea, big time ouch! From everything I read online, Honda genuine parts only since the cars computer is also plugged into it. 2
Martinnfb Posted September 29 Author Posted September 29 Prices for automotive services are over the roof. It was never cheap but now it’s just ridiculous. 1

It's one reason to keep an analog car. They have a better chance of actually being able to work on it without need a computer degree. Not saying we need to go back to carbs and drum brakes though. 1

Our Element is a 2007 so that's at least reasonable. 1
Martinnfb Posted Tuesday at 04:57 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 04:57 PM Honda use to have 5 years powertrain warranty, just not sure the alternator is part of it.

Yea, and shortly after that there was a sensor device that is mounted on the front passenger side just above the alternator that went out and started leaking oil everywhere. Yea, that was a fix it now before it destroys the new alternator that costs how much? Yep, you guessed it…another $1600. What pissed me off was the oil sprayed everywhere aft of the leak, including the strut. Of course the dealership tried to take advantage of the moment (and me) and told me I needed new struts. Yea, right. And blinker fluid too? This car was built during covid if that tells you anything. But it went out right around 120,000 miles. 1 1

At 26 months and 42,000 k, all 4 wheel bearings failed at the same time. I pushed back at the dealer who said she must be bouncing the car off curbs. Not a smidge of curb rash on any of the rims. They finally relented and did it for the cost of parts. My parents so didn't trust the car after that they bought her lease out and returned the Jetta. She got a Subaru after that. 1
Martinnfb Posted Wednesday at 12:55 AM Author Posted Wednesday at 12:55 AM Sorry to hear that Scott, since you are already out warranty coverage would there be a chance to take it to a local mechanic? A small shop, usually they can give you fair deal. Just a thought 1
BlrwestSiR Posted Thursday at 03:22 PM Posted Thursday at 03:22 PM Nice! But I'm not sure that's FS36118. 2

I’ve been asking everyone for years about a good mechanic in the area and I get the same answer. Take it to the dealership. One guy I know took his jeep in to a local shop for a simple sway bar end link replacement. He installed them backwards so my friend took it home and corrected his mistake. Only problem was the bolts that extended through the ends were hitting things. He simply unbolted and turned them 180 and reinstalled so the bolts didn’t have a target. 1
