Ryan Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 Keep up the fight, good idea on the the little scratch items. My problem is I don't know where to stop with scratch details! 3
1to1scale Posted August 16, 2019 Author Posted August 16, 2019 I finished up the camera mount today, and made a few improvements. I really wish I could still get MV lenses, they used to make some in black, that were perfect for cameras. 6
Bomber_County Posted August 17, 2019 Posted August 17, 2019 Mark, great see this back on the bench, great conversion.... 3
1to1scale Posted August 17, 2019 Author Posted August 17, 2019 I had to relocate the mount a bit, the front was hitting the camera body, but i think it fits pretty good, i also sanded an oval into the quarter window, along with a slant into the lens shade. 8
1to1scale Posted August 20, 2019 Author Posted August 20, 2019 That was a bad picture, this one is better. I was torn if I should have used my last set of Resin2detail radios, as they are no longer made. I decided to save them for either the B-17 or B-24 build. I added some scratch detail to the kit radios, pretty basic, but as they are buried below the camera, it would be hard to see them later. I also robbed the battery from my Trumpeter P-51B. It’s basic, but not terrible. I also made a fluid reservoir (not sure for what), and finally added lead wire to all the cockpit boxes, not visible here. 7
Ryan Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 Talk about a rabbit hole! looks really nice and busy. Ryan 4

1to1scale Posted August 21, 2019 Author Posted August 21, 2019 Did paint this morning and went straight to chipping, just waiting for it to dry so I can shoot clear on it. 4
Administrators Clunkmeister Posted August 21, 2019 Administrators Posted August 21, 2019 Looking awesome, Mark. These Hobbycraft P-51A's have SO much potential with just a little care and attention. 3
1to1scale Posted August 22, 2019 Author Posted August 22, 2019 I have been saying that for a long time, everything is pretty accurate, just lacking in definition. This is the second hobbycraft mustang I built, didn’t need a resin cockpit for either. I hope sombody buys he molds and re-issues the kits. 3
1to1scale Posted August 22, 2019 Author Posted August 22, 2019 Long day of painting, PE, and weathering. Tomorrow I hope to get the IP done and get it all installed in the fuselage. 5
1to1scale Posted August 24, 2019 Author Posted August 24, 2019 I started to close up the fuselage today, however, I discovered some fit issues. So back to some trimming. The fit issues were with the rear portions behind the armor plate. I had to trim the receiver board and camera mount, luckily, the cuts can’t be seen. I am also not very pleased with the self adhesive Edward PE, a couple pieces keep popping off. I’m going to have to give them a few dabs of CA. This was also the first time I used Fine Molds seat belts. I like them, they can be folded and painted, real quick. I started to built Edwards 97 part PE seatbelts, but i just did not have the patience for them, and remembered I had these. I like them. I did manage to get everything to fit, and I started to fit the wings. A little bit of sanding off burrs, and the wing gaps were amazingly tight. Things are rocking along now! 4
1to1scale Posted August 24, 2019 Author Posted August 24, 2019 Thank you. The rest of the kit should be a breeze. 3
1to1scale Posted August 28, 2019 Author Posted August 28, 2019 More update pictures, funny thing is, I used less filler than on the Hasegawa P-40. Looks like it’s getting primer tomorrow. 3
1to1scale Posted August 28, 2019 Author Posted August 28, 2019 Looking at pictures, I saw that there is no canopy rail provided in the kit, pe would have been better, but I made some with plastic stock. 5
Bomber_County Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 Great pit, this is going to be awesome........ 3
