BlrwestSiR
Ok, here what the instructions say: And in Aircraft Pictorial F4U-1 Corsair Vol 2, she's a Goodyear built Corsair IV or FG-1A. I can't find if she should have the standard US pilot harness or the British Sutton one (similar to the Spitfire). My guess is that it should be the Sutton harness which Tamiya includes on the PE fret. 2
JohnB
Interesting. I'm leaning toward the US seat belts but who knows, it might be the Sutton setup. I sent Dana Bell a message about this so hopefully he will have a answer.

Administrators Clunkmeister Posted November 19, 2020 Administrators Share Posted November 19, 2020 For some reason, John I thought that FAA wingtips ARE included in one of the Tamiya boxings? I'm SO glad you're doing an FAA bird. Other than the beat up Birdcage Corsairs, the FAA Corsair is by far my favorite scheme. One reason I've never finished my first Corsair is that the blue schemes bore the shit out of me. So model On, John. Let's see this one come to life!!

John, or anyone, I'm curious about the GSB FAA Corsairs. What's with that? Did they just take USMC or USN birds straight from US stock in US colors and simply install their own equipment? I was always under the impression that the FAA Corsairs were built to their own unique spec with, other than the first several Birdcages, had British modifications performed at the factory before they got delivered to the FAA. I learn something new every day, it seems.
JohnB
I haven't found anything to tell me the FAA Corsairs were modified to British specs (except for the wing tips). As far as I know the Brits added the air scoops and vent on the fuselage but anything else like seat belts I just do not know for sure. I too would like to be better informed as to the mods so I can build a accurate a/c.
Spitfire
Found an old thread from HS dated 2008 in which Bruce Archer said the following. Steven, There was a mod center in Conn. All of the FAA Corsairs had British belts, either the Sutton as stated, or the "Q" harness. Not US belts. This is what my research is telling me. Also with the advent of the Corsair IV, the clipped tips were added at the factory, and not the mod center as the rest were. Just another bit to show Corsairs are not as easy as everyone thinks. And the Corsair III was used on ops. Cheers Dennis

If so, it was probably very easy to swap them even on non-Export birds, I think even the wingtip lights were a production item.
