  1. I like the Horton, but that looks like it is going to be a real PIA to build! Doug
  2. I like any of them, so I'm no help there. I recently did a full "review" build (on another site that provided the kit) which may be helpful Doug's 110 Build Doug
  3. I'm very glad to see this build continue here Nigel! Doug
  4. Maybe instead of (or in addition) we should vote for "manufacturer of the year" maybe a category for IP and for resin? Otherwise companies that bring us several kits in one year might get penalized because votes get spread out among the kits, while someone that only has one kit could win with a lessor number of votes. Doug
  5. Here is my other (and first) armor build, completed around 1998/1999. It's a bit old, but still one of my favorites. I added a lot of small details, and used Fruili track again. Unfortunately, with it being so old, one of the tracks disconnected when I hauled it out of the display case to take some photos (which is the track tension is not right) but I got it back together again. This model depicts a Panther G somewhere in 1944 Germany: Thanks for looking! Doug
  6. Thanks guys, I appreciate your kind comments! As this was the last armor piece I built , I guess it's time to dig out the initial production Tiger I started on a few years ago and get it done Doug
  7. Nice looking 163 there! Guess you need to lose a few more bets so we can see more like this Doug
  8. Although I mainly build aircraft, I occasionally like to dabble in armor. Here is an old model I finished back in 1999/2000 IIRC. It's the Tamiya kit, with Fruli tracks with a few minor details added. Just pulled it out of the display case to take some photos as I realized I had none! Modeled as it would have been on the plains of Russia in the Summer of 1942. This was the second armor piece that I built (first is a Panther G I'll post soon). Tracks are a tad loose (those old clamp Fruli tracks seem to do that over time), but overall still in pretty good shape for being so old Thanks for looking! Doug
  9. Looks good Bevan! You could always go back and touch up with a little RLM75 if needed. Doug
  10. Looks great Ralph! Did you put the full engine in the kit or just the minimum to glue the panels in place? Doug
  11. Looks terrific Jeroen! Congrats on a getting it finished! Regarding the roundels, I would leave it as is, since you have the guns, etc. still in, I would say that the model represents it's state just after it was repainted, and that the roundel fading happened later after more use and the guns were removed, etc. Doug
  12. At least this way, they can correct the fat fuselage issues when they tool the new fuselage for the F model Doug
  13. Looks very nice Jeroen! Personally, I'd go with dull aluminium for the nose generator prop/spinner. Doug
  14. Another fantastic build Jim, congrats! Doug
  15. Thanks guys! Just to prove I'm still working on this one, a small update. Unfortunately, the really poor fitting Yellow Wings decals have really sucked the life out of what was supposed to be a quick build. In hindsight, it may have been easier to just mask and paint the markings myself! I would recommend that the folks at Yellow Wings actually build and test their decals to ensure they actually fit properly before releasing them. As mentioned above, the black scallop decals for the tail don't fit well in the fillet areas at all, being too large. So, I decided the best way to approach this was to put the decal on, and then cut off the offending bit, and then mask and paint that area. So, a couple snaps showing 50% of the decals on and drying: After I get these snuggled down I'll add the other side of the rudder/stab and the top of the elevator/stab decals. Then, as with the others, I'll clear coat, sand any bumps away, and then paint in the missing black areas. Once that is done I can put the remaining decals on the fuselage, as I wanted to limit the potential of having to mask over any decal if at all possible. The last remaining hard part will be getting the stripes on the cowl. I'm tempted to just mask and paint them rather than try to get the decals to conform to the compound curves of the cowl ring... Thanks for looking! Doug
  16. Since I have over 200 1/32 aircraft kits, I can wait a bit to get the newest kits So, what I usually do is add things to my wish list on the squadron site throughout the year, and then wait for the BF 50% off sale and load them into my cart and make my purchase. While a few things don't make it (are out of stock), I usually manage to get 90% of what I am after during the sale. Of course, there are some kits/lines that squadron don't carry, and those I order as the opportunity arises so I don't have to go a whole year without some new kits to check out Doug
  17. Excellent work on this kit. Really looking forward to paint on this! Doug
  18. Oh yes... I picked up 15 new 1/32 kits (as well as a few other goodies) in total Doug
  19. Maybe if we all build PCM Hurri's it will be enough to get the modeling karma gods to give us a 1/32 Trumpeter Hurricane series
  20. Latest update on this new kit posted on their site Looking forward to this one hitting the shelves soon! Doug
  21. Looking good! Can't wait to see some paint on this beastie! Doug
  22. I understand it is the best Hurri kit in any scale. I really wish Trumpy would scale it down and release a 1/32 version of it - I'd have several in my stash then! Doug P.S. I really wish by some miracle a mask maker would do 1/24 markings for Tuck's DT-A so I could build mine
  23. Great start, looking forward to watching this one progress! Doug
  24. That "chap" was me Rog, the same person whose post directly proceeds yours in this thread... and as already mentioned here, the sub-varient I mentioned, and was also the title of the the thread on LSP (G-10 Erla) is not available in kit form today. Your right Steve, but that post was made 45 mins after I made my post above, so mine was based on his previous posts on the topic. Regardless, if anyone really thinks that negative reviews hurt Revell sales, lets again look at the much-reviled Revell He219. Revell sold out their intial run of this kit, and clearly sold many more of the second run to their distributors. So I'm certain Revell considered it a success. Now, the distributors who may have ordered too many and gotten stuck with them might have been impacted by the negative press on the kit. You also have to realize that most of the sales to distributors are made before the kit is even released, and well before any review, postive or negative, are written/posted. So, again, having many years experience in this area, and sat through hundreds of product review meetings, I will again assure you that we (forum posters) really don't matter to major manufacturers like Revell. As posted above, it would seem Revell even ignored the people they brought in as experts when they pointed out the errors in the kit, so why would they care what we think? Doug
