  1. I agree with you on the Trumpeter thing, Rog. I have the 262 of theirs, and I thought it is great. But The 262 was generally puttied, so I'll eliminate the rivets with a heavy shot of Mr. Surfacer 500 wouldn't handle. Heck, my build quality is such that I usually do that anyways. I can honestly say with 100% surety that the ONLY Trumpy/Hobbyboss kit that I've ever been truly disappointed with is the B-24. I was rubbing my hands with glee when it was announced, and the one single thing that I prayed they'd get right is the one thing they screwed up. The center section and wing IS the look of the B-24. So I sit and wait to see how Iain makes out, and if his fix is successful, I'll be all over it. If it doesn't work, I'll build one anyway. it's safe to say that if the Lanc hadn't come along, I'd have built a B-24 already. So as of now, we wait for the AM to catch up with the kit.
  2. No Pontos set, hubert, which surprised me alot. There's some 3D printed stuff out there and plenty of PE, Brass and resin, so we might have a shot at it. Artwox out of Russia makes a decent wood deck that's sold locally as well.
  3. Oooh, noice. The 262 is supposedly better in several ways, the most glaringly obvious being that it’s not shot full of holes like the Trumpy version.
  4. Ummmmm, It IS 1/200 scale. Over 5 ft long. She’s gonna chimp out and I’ll be sleeping in the doghouse. For a year. It is set up to take R/C, but obviously, that’s not our bag here. It needs a huge amount of detailing to make it viable for today, but what’s there is decent enough.
  5. The first thing I did to my Lanc was chop the big holes for the observers windows in the fuselage. Yep, no going back! Looking great, Tony. Is that foil?
  6. Earl, there’s one model I just stood and looked at, and it was yours. You deserved what you won and probably much more. The damage to the stack stays was unforgivable, as there was no reason to move any of the plant’s components whatsoever. .
  7. And this ancient old dog. This is a stock pic. Mine’s still in my F-250 waiting for the coast to be clear.........
  8. That Hs-129 book is hardcover and 200 pages of very cool stories, pics, and drawings. The book is priced at a hundred dollars and I think it’s money well spent. I figured it’s worth it, especially with the new ZM kit on the way.
  9. Oh good Lord............. just saw the 262 post
  10. Hey Rog, I’m sure if you’ve done so yet, but if your going full bore new bench area, consider HobbyZone organizers. It was the best thing I ever did. I spent a few hundred dubious (so I thought) dollars, and assembled an area that actually keeps this notorious clutterbug semi organized. Mis en place, as they say. But have no fear. I’m still a slob. They haven’t invented organizers for everything else yet.
  11. Rog, I remember a Revell 110 kit that confounded all my attempts to make it right, and this may very well might have been the one. Then the Dragon 110, just after it came out, but before Brett Green wrote an addendum to those workd famous instructions. You know, the ones that were illustrated by a toddler in crayon? That kit, after 3 weeks of ill fitting hell, hit the far wall of my hobby room at about Mach 3, and I scared my wife because I started loudly cussing in German like a Bundesmarine sailor using strings of words I hadn't even thought of in 30 years. There wasn't enough filler in all of the DFW. area. Not one of my finer moments, but that thing well and truly wound my clock spring. Oh, and then there are the joys of builder error. Like the stunted growth version of an Eduard/Werner's Wings 109 V-14 racer. After some overexuberance while sanding, my brilliant self ended up with a fuselage about a quarter inch too short. I finished it anyway, without fixing the error, but that thing looked comically stupid. That one fell victim to an unfortunate shotgun blast.
  12. Yeah, the goodness happens on the outside with these ones.
  13. Hahahahaha! My kinda young lady! I like that. Any lady who can talk the advantages of the 605, 603, 601 in comparison to the 213F has the keys to my heart.
  14. Good point! Never thought of that. And I have all the Belcher goodies and a Hasegawa kit for it, too. That stabilizer’s broken loose again. See if you can’t lock it down.
  15. The Iroquois Class would have to be 1/48 at a minimum, Carl. It didn’t go in, just impacted on the surface! Story of my life
  16. Tony, does Draw decals have a listing for what you need? Or is it something you'd be cool using masks for? Masks open up huge possibilities, and ooooh the realism
  17. Scott, I haven’t been able to squeeze into my class A’s in 30 years. But I ever find a tent, I’ll swipe some fabric and get some new ones tailored.
  18. Rog, stories like that young lady are what makes this hobby special. Around here, modeling is a bit of a nerd sport I dare to say. We try to spread it to the younger generations, but many just prefer the Xbox or Playstation. Hasegawa 190s, 109Fs, and Zeros are kits that are great for newbies, no doubt. But this An-8, if not for it being a model for someone else, would have been binned a year ago.
  19. I'm not ashamed to say it, but Tony's Corsair is head and shoulders above my Lanc, and I'm not being humble. It's just a better executed build with a ton fewer mistakes. It was the best aircraft of any scale bar none, in my semi learned opinion. My Lanc was in Conversions so it didn't compete against his, but notable is that neither of us won "best aircraft". The two big awards the Lanc won were visual impression awards, not judged awards. It's a real head scratcher why here in Texas, 1/32 seems to get so little love from modelers. It's the scale to get serious into detailing and build an actual aircraft replica, not just it's external physical form. Remiond me to remember to get armor pics next time. We're a dual interest site here.
  20. I've never tried a Hasegawa Emil. thanks for the Pro Tip, Rog. Oh, and pics or it didn't happen.
  21. Amodel An-8. The only game in town if you want to so obscure Russian transports in a decently large scale. This is one of their older kits and it shows. It's better than vacuform, but not by much. Fun fun fun
  22. Oh yeah! 1/72 would be a great scale for a new tool USS Ticonderoga.
  23. Check out the high tech scoop. A block of plastic. Yeah baby! Note to self: 1/72 sux.
