Just... WOW! I have the full kit, and much of that interior is absolutely invisible when complete. Stunning build so far! -

Speaking of ships... Trumpeter’s new 1/200 Titanic... No, I’m not ghoulish enough to model that ship, but with a small amount of change, Olympic is a real possibility,... and Olympic as a troopship would be mind blowing. And Britannic as a Hospital Ship would be a real stunner. Not many realize that Olympic served reliably on the Liverpool to New York run for decades, and was eventually scrapped as she became obsolete. -
A Clunk in 1/32 would be mind boggling. It was a big, big aircraft, but it was a two seat, twin engine all weather interceptor, and carried a lot of weapons and fuel. It was also arguably the best, and for awhile the ONLY really capable all weather interceptor available to the West. Plus, unlike many other contemporary aircraft, it was by NO means underpowered with it’s twin Orendas. It made the F-89 instantly 10 years out of date, outperforming it handily in every respect. It’s only flaws? A cramped rear cockpit and no air to air refueling capability.

I’m really looking forward to seeing how Jetmads does with the Viggen. I know of at least one other person here who ordered one as well. Hopefully it’s worth all the hype.

That 1/48 B-47 will look real,y blood along with the B-36, B-52, and B-70. Along the same lines, I also have the 1/72 Tupolev 95, Antonov 24, and 1/48 Bone, all which will go nicely with the others, even if the scale is a touch different and Antonov isn’t a bomber. A Tupolev 22 in 1/48 might be too much to wish for? Displaying all of those together at the same time might be a bit real estate intensive. Even the Tupolev 95 is massive in 1/72, dwarfing the B-52.

And the Tamiya Lanc has some shape issues that are tough for some to swallow.

Fokker was THE undisputed American civil aircraft King in the late 20s up until the Douglas DC series. The Universal put him on the map, his Trimotors were leaps and bounds better than the Fords. If it wasn’t for shoddy maintenance work on the wooden wings, it might be Fokker and Douglas instead of Boeing and Douglas. But Tony Fokker was as set in his ways and immovable as Henry Ford. He refused to accept new technology and his airplane’s performance eventually overtaxed his still WW1 construction processes. -

That ironclad looks like a deathtrap.... Just a little bit of cold water leaking onto that hot boiler,... KABOOM! -

We need more ship builds here, but just remember, MSW is there for ships, so cross post as needed. Plus remember, 1/48 is cool here. We ain't anal. just build 'em big, and build on a large scale. Not like me, with my meager production. On that Corsair, I have a feeling I'll have spent more time on the cockpit and engine than I did on the entire rest of the build. the center section is like a kid's snap together kit. -

We had almost -30C temperatures in Texas last week, and right now, we just got one heck of a hailstorm. Golfball size.

For all who don't know, MSW (Model Ship World) is our Sister Site. If you have even the slightest interest in ship models, have a peek. Many of us here are also members there. many members there also build Large Scale Models, and some of us here dabble in ships. -

Hubert, we did exactly the same thing with the rear observation windows on the Lanc. When they got printed in clear, they were hazy and quite a bit thicker than yours. But a whole bunch of hand polishing with plastic polish made them quite usable. i'm happy to see that you're still working on the Mystery Ship. The Travel Air Mystery Ship is my undisputed absolute all time favorite Golden Age racer ever. -

One question on the Birdcage. The Montex pics make it look like the quarter windows were painted over like the Brits did with theirs. Yes? No? -

Usually, getting forced out of your home by weather is a very, very bad thing. But my wife suggested I grab something and take it with me to the hotel, so I did. With my F-105F and most all of my other builds on my bench involve resin, and plenty of it, and knowing that my wife would would be less than thrilled with resin dust all over her stuff, I looked for something with NO resin. My eyes settled upon this SOD build that had stalled out a bunch of years back for lack of enthusiasm. I’m generally not a Tamiya builder. For some reason, I find them very Ho Hum, if that makes any sense. Like a cut and paste exercise to me. But, for the room on the road, why not. Joy likes the Bent Wing Butcher Bird, so I grabbed a long SODded Birdcage. Back then, I was doing a semi buddy build with Smitty, and he just sailed right past me to completion while I jumped into a Helldiver project. The idea was to do F4U-1 “Reluctant Dragon” White 1 as flown by 1st Lt. Alonzo B. Treffer of VMF-213 in 1943 at Guadalcanal. Montex makes a mask and decal set for it, and after verifying that the aircraft actually did exist as advertised and not just in the fertile minds of the Montex boys, I had long ago decided that this well used early 2 color bird was the one to do. I’ve yet to find pictures of it, but plenty of other evidence exists, so onward we go. OK, in deference toJohn and others who love Tamiya, I get it. This kit’s a gem. I’m not going to do a WIP. “Oh YAY, another Corsair, yadda yadda yadda”, But RFI pics will be posted. We’re back home today, so onward with the Thud, but this one is close now, so I’ll power through to finish. Corsairs on Guadalcanal in 1943 were VERY well used, so lots of chipping will occur here... -

Hubert, that 985 looks Amazing! Considering that the only 985 is to swipe the decent engine from the KH Kingfisher Kit, I’d say your creation is all that more special! -
Mike and Hubert, get building! Let’s see them come to life right here.

I haven’t built much for me in the last few years, it’s been most commission stuff, the choice being between my PZL 11c and my Lanc conversion, which I’m still detailing a bit more with external ECM stuff, but it’d probably be the Lanc because I’m most proud of it. Well, on second thought, I’d rather this. Sorry.

I want to kick that thing to life and see if it’s really true that “a 45 can do 45”. One gotta love the WLA, although I’m kinda partial to the WLC...
