Thank you Frank! Gremlin is a good hint! Hope that I have scared him away! I‘m curious if GusMac and Alberto have the same trouble I have with it.- 719 replies

Israeli Mirage III C with Atar9C

Thank you Rob and also for the tipp. I will try Mr. Masking fluid. Water based is always a good option! The canopy of my kit is also of such bad quality that I cannot use it. It‘s wavy on the surface and full of distortions. Will send a claim to Italeri. I don’t know which kind of final quality control they have. I‘m really lucky that I have a second kit where I took the replacement from. What did we state regarding quality?: Of which value is a quality system when your quality standards are that low? But now I‘m close to the step which I love: The painting!- 719 replies

Thanks Peter, Always use this method. The rubber like appearance is resistant and can be applied very easy and precise. Excess can be simply wiped away after application. I‘m really happy now that I‘m close to the paintshop! What about your P-39 and the F-4?- 719 replies

No report on rework tonight. Finished the masking. For masking of non-glas areas I use Mr. Hobby masking fluid. I don’t use it for glas parts because on one occasion in the past the glas of a plane became cloudy. I started with the cockpit: followed by the canopy: Then came the landing gear bays: And finally the small bits: Landing light and position lights: That’s it for now. Now the airbrush will be unpacked...- 719 replies

Thank you for your feedback Gary! I had a short look already at the homepage for which you send to me the link. I have to register. This I will do tomorrow and then give feedback to you! These WNW-/Meng-Kits are the Tamiya Quality kits in the WWI-segment. I will for sure give my Dr I a try ! Has a Richthofen bust included. But before I build it I have to build a Tornado GR.4 of 617 Sgn with lights and my Dayglo 1/32 Fiat G-91.- 719 replies

Thanks for your feedback Frank! I‘m curious too. Plan to do it like on my Lancaster. No panelliners needed in the end. We will see if it works. But still a longer way to go...- 719 replies

Thanks Kev for the great compliment! Thanks Peter, So nice to hear that your health is getting better and better! The only wish I have that you will recover completely soon! You are right that you need good nerves when building this kit. Leave it where it is and finish your beautiful P-39 and F-4.- 719 replies

Wow, beautiful Beaufighter! Awesome paintwork and weathering! I also have the Tamiya kit in my stash. Now I know that it can turn into a gorgeous model!

Hallo Gary, Awesome progress and close to the finish-line now! The engine room and the cockpit look fantastic as does the camouflage scheme. Looking forward to seeing her finished! Bis bald!

All tiny bits painted and weathered now: Hydraulic cylinders and levers for main-gear doors. Main LG door with fittings All landing gear and actuators (now really all ) Landing gear doors Masked windshield. The masks also had to be reworked (that’s my „word of the year 2021“, uncountable how often I wrote it here) to mask perfectly... Tomorrow night everything on the bird will be closed and prepared for black painting of the canopy frame and then priming can start.- 719 replies

Thanks for your feedback and compassion! I realized that I really forgot to prepare the parts as of above. Wanted to finish them before starting the painting process. But these are really the last tiny bits to correct.- 719 replies

Ha ha! This is really a joke! But a quality system conformity doesn’t define the definition which quality-level your product should have. It only defines the process to guarantee the chosen quality level. At least the customer decides if he will buy a product with such a quality level... Apropos quality: yesterday I also prepared the remaining parts of the landing gear (Fittings and retraction cylinders for the main landing gear flaps). A lot of test-fitting and rework needed again. Block with lever for small LG flap (before and after rework) Hydraulic cylinder for retraction of big LG flap. Italeri provides 2 equal parts out of which you have to make a right and a left part by yourself (if you like). Levers on the big LG-Doors. Thickening of fitting necessary to fit correctly in the LG bay. On the weekend I will prepare her for priming. Masks to the windshield already fitted.- 719 replies

Short update: Damaged my windscreen when adding rivets to the base. Caused a crack. This was caused because when gluing the windscreen to the fuselage it didn’t fit close but there was a small gap. The tension of my riveting and the thin plastic lead to the crack: Fortunately I had a replacement available from my III E kit for which I also improved the fit, which is perfect now: Additionally I reworked the parachute housing at the tail cone, because it had a banana-curve at the top: Used 0,38 mm Evergreen Sheet to thicken it up: But now on to the painting process...- 719 replies

Copy that! Looking really good with the primer on the surface. I‘m still not as far as you. Made a little pause. Too much rework... Curious to see it with paint on the surface! -
Thank you for this beautiful tutorial Gary. It convinces me that I don’t have to fear the rigging. Thanks also for the tipps for a jig suitable for Double Deckers! Thanks for all your tipps, sources and description too Rob. Your methods and these from Gary are nearly identical. I will give it a try on my Fokkers!

Thanks to both of you for your rigging-tipps. I only have a normal rig for aircraft, Gary: Could it be upgraded to a biplane-capable rig? If yes, how? If no: where do I get such a rig? I also have buckles from Gazpatch and elastic line. I‘m a little afraid that the line will not keep tight when rigged. This is why I thought of using elastic line which could be stretched and then glued. @Rob: How do you attach the metal tube to the place where the rigging line should go? Or do you just make a hole at that place, threat the line through the metal tube and then through the whole and fix it with superglue in the metal tube after looping? How long is this metal tube, which diameter does it have and where do you get it from? How do you assure with that method that the line will keep tight? Sorry for all these questions. I just want to be sure to use a method that works (even after training...). Thanks in advance for your replies!

I only have 2 WWI kits in my stash Gary: A Meng Fokker DrI with a bust of Richthofen and a WNW Fokker DVII. Because the rigging is very few on them The DrI will probably be on my desk after the Tornado and the Gina.
