Jeff replied to James H's topic in Aircraft Reviews
our post war Lancs were really pretty....... LONG before the sterile grey stuff of today -
yeah , it would be great to see it again Martin, I know the last time I saw it , she was getting rough, I hope it can be saved, as the 101, and the S55 too....
-
I thought it was kind of painful, Phil... I hope 'we' can save it....... and it's not too late.......
-
https://globalnews.ca/news/4535470/museum-hoping-to-restore-military-jet Doesn't this just break your heart? A CF 101, and a S55 outside too.......

No kidding! -
Phil, yeah I bet.... do you get any kind of transit deals ( Brit-Rail ) as a regular commuter or do you have to pay full pop? At the very least, they should name a car after you.....
-
Peter !!!!! Holy........they say things go in threes, is that three.....??...... geez, I hope so......driving with a sore knee is really no fun, my knee gives me grief sometimes when driving as well, so uncomfortable and no where or way TO get comfy..... I'm glad you are home and safe, and maybe that's where you should stay for a while... sounds like work is dangerous as well..... do you feel a couple weeks off at the model bench may be in order for a full recovery?? I think it does, perfect prescription for a well healed knee........ just sayin......
-
Martin, when were you in Nelson? for the September car show??

Thanks, James, great review........ -
and 11 days is nothing, wow that is good, you will get it back before the dead of winter sets in, that's great......and yes I totally agree with the Bullit thing..... not much compares with a 68 390 4 speed........... I'm a Corvette guy now, but I had 3 Mustang's, 2, 68 notch back 289 autos, and a 71 Mach 1, 351 CJ with Ram Air and 4 speed.....

Of course, "Prefer NO short cut", the car should look as good as new or better..... yeah I kind of thought they would have to pull the headliner, and then the old body hammer with a light touch will be needed....... sure doesn't take mush for 15 grand worth of damage eh? Also you are lucky you don't have the communist insurance like we do here in BC....... as I found it troublesome to get private insurance, as we are REQUIRED to have ICBC insurance FIRST ,( and it aint cheap) then you can opt for private extras, but here you MUST have ICBC, basic, which to me is some sort illegal monopoly, but they don't ask me ( and don't get me started) we get what ever ICBC decides is appropriate for damage repairs, and that's that.... oh YOU can spend more if you want, but usually here it is Bargain Basement money..... see ICBC needs the insurance money to pay their CEO's 6 figure salary's...... I prefer no short cuts too, but here, .............. well................. not a lot of choice......................

That is the best explanation I have read, that is exactly the way I see it and have read about, the hard edge looks way too perfect for my personal liking, and I am only speaking for my personal liking, but again, I know guys will say it has to do with scale effect at 1/72, or 148 or even 1/32 a sharp edge is what is required due to the scale of the model..... believe me I have heard it all many times, and sometimes not very politely...... but beauty is in the eye of the builder, Peter, I totally agree with your assessment, and besides if I bought a mask for ever Spitfire and Mosquito I have in my stash, Cathy would have a mask for me! a death mask ! -
That is great news, BUT how are they going to repair the roof??? surely not pick and file?? That will take ages, and it might have to be as it is a black car........ the GT 350 hood will look REALLY cool......my buddy told me yesterday that the Ford dealership in Trail BC is getting a 'Bullit' Stang in the next week or so....... how long did they say for the repairs to be done? That looks like months worth of detailed work, and I hope you do close inspection when complete, under the lights AND in the sun....... keep us posted, I'm thrilled for you......insurance companies on the other hand.....

Hhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmm looks like she has painted toe nails, and only 3 legs..............................just what IS going on in Alberta these days?? on a serious note, she sure does look good and healthy, she is really pretty......
-
Yeah.................. I hear you there, and that is a sad and unfortunate statement in this 'new millennium', when it was supposed to be all good.....and I do know what the commuting is like over there, and my hat is off to you for 31 years of it............... maybe a DSO should be conferred ? LOL, But I certainly get what your saying, when I am up to my nose in deep wet snow, I'd TRADE with you........ still we do live in a pretty cool place.......it's just all the people who mess it up !

The hard edge soft edge debate goes on... I am of the opinion that the soft edge is the way to go, although there are 'experts' out there that tell me differently, somewhat vehemently at times... I am also in the free hand camp as well, and my reasoning is that when repairs are made in the field most often when paint is required, I certainly would say that the crews didn't have masks to work with, and the paint usually looks the same, soft edge.....so I am in total agreeance with you, and for the record, I have painted all my Hurricanes, Spitfires and Mosquitoes, in the free hand soft edge mode....and to me they look just fine..... -

Peter, ask and ye shall be given..... this is the best I can do...... this is the Bob Jens' bird it is a B35 that was flying out of Victoria BC.... I hope this is what you were thinking of.... -
Bill, that metal cowling looks the real deal, and the rigging is spot on..... I really have to give one of these a go....... I'm like most guys , scared of screwing up an expensive kit with sloppy rope work.......
-
Carl, I'd love to go back to the UK, such beauty and history................ I have a few dead relatives I want to look up................ and yes, Gusmac, the weather is really a factor, I marvel at the fact how the weather on any given day can change the landscape, looks so much different on a sunny day than a day with weather........ and yes we do get lost in the day to day drudgery and not stop to take 5 minutes to look around.... it really is a pretty amazing ( I hate that word ) place we live in.... even in crummy weather........

Facebook was a cool idea at the time, but like most good ideas it has grown into a billion or multi billion dollar BUSINESS, and that is it's downfall.. in my eyes anyway......... money talks and B/S walks... its too bad, and why is there SO many predators out there these days?? On ALL levels.... here in Canada, the predators get away pretty much scott free as there is no real penalty for anything, or so it seems..., so yeah Maru, they don't care about their people, money, money, money............................... sigh................................................
