As I dig deeper in to the vent side of things the more I realize, I am going to spend more than just a day or two on it. Variable speed duct fans, filters and a legitimate ducting system....Back to the lab!

Bringing my spray booth inside was on the list of things I was going to do for the spring. Given the current situation I have some time on my hands. Which brings me to why we are all here. It certainly isn't my incredible good looks and stunning smile. Although they are compelling..... I am moving my spraying operations in, from the garage, to the man cave so that I can spray during the deeper part of the Alaskan winter. While the garage was heated, it was not conducive to some of the more precise work I want to do. Inside I will have consistent temps and an actual lite workspace. I am making my own vent. Any advice on the project as I move forward will be appreciated. Prior mistakes and victories welcome.

I have ordered there in the past and have always missed the big Piranha PE bender or decided at the last minute it wasn't worth the coin. I bought the 195MM Piranha and am looking forward to getting better at my PE. I bought it for flexibility in regards to the add length. I have a two 1/35 Strykers kits with full PE RPG cages and what not. I also have full PE sets for a 1/32 Super Stallion and CH-47. They are a ways out there but I am working my way to them.

Do you have one? If so do you use it? Any advice? I am about to have a few projects that will have a considerable amount of PE. I m looking to ease the pain.....Any thoughts and input is appreciated.

Time to knock the dust off the old build. My compressor died after years of faithful service a few months ago. Also, the need to experiment pushed its way in to this model. In response I have brushed on the paint for the interior while waiting to the compressor. For years I had been striving for a perfect paint job. Learning about and actually seeing armor as I got older changed my view drastically over the years. Then, as I learned to weather I worried far less about that factory finish I tried to create in my early years of modeling. In this case I am trying to use the brush to replicate the harsh treatment the interior of the 251. As a young soldier I used to drive an Army M113 APC. I thought about what the interior looked like during operations and applied that here. Dry brushing and back filling rust after all the details are in. Now that I have a compressor a few things have been happening with this. I have been light sanding places and filling out the color and texture with my airbrush. Then weathering. Below is the work far. In the picture below I was messing around with a light acrylic gloss coat before weathering. Just behind the seats you will see the demarcation line where the gloss ends and the natural flat begins. I will be messing with oils and such to figure out the approach for future builds. This model was bough many years ago. I also bought an Eduard kit back when I was first catching the photo etched bug. While some photo etched was used at this scale much of it was redundant in my way of thinking. The amount of work required and the part it replaced nulled the effect of photoetched. Meaning that the original was better such is the case as the gear levers. Photoetched is not round as the plastic is and of good quality. I will be looking far deeper in to photo etched parts in future builds/scales before spending the dough.

I have been building a bit on my 251. In fact, I will post some updates this weekend. I intend to keep posting updates to its conclusion regardless. However, the agreement was set forth I didn't make the time frame. I would not be comfortable being put in the same lot of those that finished on time. I am way OK with not being in the running for a prize, god knows I should reduce my stash. And as my betters have already said it is a pleasure to build as a group. I am always impressed by peoples builds and techniques. May I suggest, you give a prize to those that completed their build on time. I will supply another prize package for a second completion date TBD. If I may further suggest, the people who finished on time will also be eligible for the second prize package. This could cycle for as long as chosen. I don't know the numbers in terms of complete and incomplete kits as certainly that number would matter in this decision. Whatever the case, it is, and continues to be a pleasure.

Decals, decals, decals!!!! Man this plane has them.....I was a little rough getting back in to it. I found that some of my decal sets were either to hot or not hot enough. Causing some, so far minor, decal issues. I think I have it figured out. Working on the wheel wells and plumbing. Messing with weathering.....remembering where I left off. She's back underway.

Gaz!! Thank you for the kind words. The service has been a blessed trip to be sure. There are going to be many people that I will miss. Much work to be done in regards to the workspace. My computer helps as much as it hurts in some regards. Subject research usual drives me down a few holes for a bit as there are so many good sources on the net. So many model makers, all doing pretty cool stuff. Learning it and making it my own takes some time. Looks like I will have to find a proper apron, a tactical apron! -F

Looking good Harv! Clean and ready for more gadgets to be glued on. These are really going pop in the the old office space!! I am at the desk tonight, more consistent in the next couple hours after the next few chores. I will work on my Phantom as well. Decals are the theme today.

I am sure to get the model done buy the D-Day build final day. But the diorama is still to be designed so we will see. I have always wanted to do one and I am excited about the thought. Thank you for the kind words!

Well its been a bit since I have been at my bench. Its been an amazing salmon run up here. And I have have been helping friends hunt and so forth. We received our termination dust over the last few days and so its all too soon to be winter. With that I sat down and knocked out the 105 in the last day or so. I build it so that it can be re-positioned as its final resting place will be a diorama. With that in mind I have made some very minor changes in the build. The white plastic added in the picture below is capping the elevation hydraulics as the kit was designed with the pin resting on the support. the white plastic block allows elevation of the gun keeping the pin in the support. This will allow me to reposition at a later time and then affix as I see fit. I also made the recoil slide tube metal (Paper clip) to allow for the weapon to recoil without the fear of the prior weak plastic used breaking. The base has been made to be displayed in a towed position and unlimbered as needed. Allowing flexibility in the future diorama. Its good to back on my work bench. I hope all has been well with all of you. Off to start the 251.

As many of you know the long days in the north mean work to repair and prepare for winter. I spent a few days coating the drive way as it had been a few years. It needed a bit of attention as winter has a way with asphalt. Planting flower with and for the wife took a good bit of time. Daughters birthday party, soccer games......There is much to fit in a short summer. And in all of that there is work. One of the guys on water rescue duty caught us at work. Here we are during a "Night" jump. Retirement is just around the corner and life is in the middle of many transitions. Only just today am I back at the work bench. Looking at my plastic....I have missed the calm of my work bench. I figured I would change my work space. I now have twice the work space but twice the mess as I got rid of old and broken storage. So right now its all on the desk tops, separated more or less by project. I will have computer access and so much more at my finger tips. New storage and organizational shelf's on the way. I am also building some with the massive Lego collection I have. New lights and LED's. Soon I will have a the largest, most organized work area I have ever had. I am very excited. As retirement looms, modeling time will increase. Well, enough of that. Updates to be posted in the coming days. I hope you all are doing well.

Gaz...You are the man, no matter what you drink. I surely appreciate all your help and humor. Luckily, I never had to go back to "The PTA" after my first run.

I really enjoyed the Eduard AM for the seats. The only thing I didn't like was that the belts were colored only on one side. So flipping them around required a little extra work. Maybe the Brassen is different?
