Tamiya 1/48 Mosquito Night Fighter RFI

LOL Chris. It's such a easy build I think most any model builder could knock one out in a very reasonable time. -

Thanks Kevin. I'm pleased with how it turned out. -
I've been considering redoing this particular Corsair model so now I'm going to get with the program. The overall blue/gray I used on it just doesn't look "right" to me now. I'm going to repaint the whole a/c except for the undersides. I intend to mark it as it was before repainting (unless I come across another Corsair I like better and haven't done yet which is unlikely as I've built 10 Birdcage Corsairs). This is just something I've been thinking about for a while. We'll see how it turns out.

Thank you Martin. I'm pleased that you like it. It's a well engineered kit with excellent fit and detail. -

I'm glad you like it Jeff, thanks. I agree, Tamiya kits by and large are very good with few, if any, problems. The only complaint I have is they are a bit pricey. However, you get what you pay for! -
All done and ready for inspection. https://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/20026-tamiya-148-mosquito-night-fighter-rfi/

Finished with this one. A very enjoyable build and I think it goes well in this GB thread. OOB except for the gun mounts in the bomb bay which are Aires. VERY fiddly to assemble that Aires set but, when finished, it adds a lot to the finished model. Painted with Colourcoats and Testor's MM. Alclad dark aluminum for the landing gear. I used decals that came in the kit. They were thin and easy to apply. Much better than some of the Tamiya decals for earlier kits. I hope y'all like the results of my efforts! Thanks Chris. I'll have it completed tomorrow (Thursday) barring any unforseen problems. The Aires gun bay was awfully fiddly but I managed to muddle through.

LOL Probably dat hoe did it!

Thanks. What dat hoe say? 😂

Thank you. I've set this one aside for a bit but will get back to it later on.

Thanks Jeff. I just finished decaling so I'll have to set it aside for a bit to allow the decals to settle in. Then I'll over spray with some clear flat and start attaching the wings, bomb bay doors, etc. I figure to be done with it before the end of the week barring unforseen problems.

Thanks Peter.

Guns and mounts installed okay. I've decided to use the Aires bomb bay/gun bay doors instead of the kit items. I'll get that done tomorrow along with some other stuff.
-
Yep, just one of those senior moments I guess.
-
Guns and gun mounts done (and facing the right direction!). The end of the barrels will be shortened some and then stuck through the holes on the forward bulkhead so their being a bit "wonky" right now shouldn't be a problem after install.
-
All was going fairly well until I noticed.......things were installed backwards! Had to "undo" very carefully the two guns I had in place and start over. Cuss factors and frustration are kicking in! That's why I'm taking a short break to post this. I hate it when that happens!!!! 🤪 I WILL say the instructions leave much to be desired.

Thanks Jeff. The best approach I think, would have been to do the bomb/gun bay stuff before assembling the fuselage. But I wasn't planning to get that Aires set and went on and assembled the fuselage, etc. I changed my mind after the fact and decided to go on and get the set and see if I could at least use SOME of it. Luckily that seems to be the case so it looks like a workable plan after all. I'm working on the gun mounts and guns and expect to have them installed later today (fingers crossed).

Got this forward bulkhead cut out and fitted on the model. Fits okay so I think I can glue it in place and proceed with the rest of the bay "stuff".
-
My fingers are crossed all will go well. At this point I don't see any big problems. I agree, that nose doesn't add any good looks to the a/c.

Check the next post Martin. I think it will work fine.
