Really did turn out nice Peter in spite of "setbacks". Overcoming problems and finishing a build gives you a nice feeling (at least it does me!). LOL Well done!!!
-
As T'ealC used to say "INDEED"! Hardly a comparison with todays kits.
-
Should be a enjoyable build Peter. I've used Vector cockpit sets in 3 other Hobbycraft P-51 builds and it really enhances the models "look". Stay tuned!

Sure is pretty Peter!!! Outstanding work especially with all the problems. Turned out really well.

My plan is to "convert" this USAAF P-51 to a RAF Mustang I. It won't involve a LOT of adjustments but one is replacing the poor kit exhausts with some from my spares stash. Other improvements will be to replace the wing cannons with some very nice Master Model items (coming from SB) and replacing the wheels with some Tamiya P-51 items. The main thing though will be the Vector cockpit interior set. Should make a nice looking model!

Thanks Frank! They just don't have the right know how or incentives to build it. It DOES need some extra effort if you are willing to do it. LOL I'm glad you like it. -

I have long been fascinated by a/c that have been "put out to pasture" such as this F4U-4. I decided to embark on this build using a Trumpeter kit but with "enhancements" using some Tamiya parts (wing fold mechanism, wheels and gear doors). I've included photos of the "real" a/c to show it in various stages of disrepair. I wanted to depict the a/c at one point in time before it had deteriorated far and before it was saved and restored. Painted with Tamiya acrylics, Mr. Hobby acrylics and MM enamels. ALL markings are from my decal stash with some re-scaled using my computer and printer plus I tried to depict the red in the national insignia as very sun faded. I hope you like the results of my efforts!

Trying to go slow and easy. Working on attaching the flaps (moderate cuss-factor!).

😬

Thank you Peter. I tried hard not to overdo it and still keep it looking "real" as shown in the accompanying photo of the real a/c. I hope to have it finished later today or maybe tomorrow.

Making some good progress on the F4U. Still have a lot of detailing and weathering to do but it's coming right along!

Thank you Chris. You are welcome!!
