  1. Finished with this one! https://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/17793-f3a-1-corsair-completed/
  2. A Brewster F3A-1 Corsair isn't something you see every day. That, plus the attractive paint job, is what decided me on building this Tamiya kit as such. You really can't tell the difference between a F4U-1A and a F3A-1 so using one of my Tamiya F4U-1A's worked out well. The real, restored, a/c is clean and shiny so I decided to keep mine that way. Painted with MM GSB, Testor's White, Xtracolor Intermediate Blue, and my own mix of Testor's Interior Green. The national insignias are from my decal stash and the L69 is cobbled together from decals in my stash. The wheels are Barracudacast and I used Quinta details in the cockpit. In my opinion the restored a/c is very attractive and I tried to match some of that in the model. You might notice I haven't added the stretched sprue antenna wires. I left them off as they would for sure get broken at some point! I hope y'all like it! Click on the 1st photo for best resolution and to view as a slide show.
  3. Good catch Peter. ALWAYS better to catch something like that BEFORE completing the model! I'll refer to your build whenever I get around to building mine.
  4. Thanks Carl. I too would like a F2G conversion for the Tamiya a/c. I think that's a great looking bird!
  5. Thanks Harv! The final step after painting and decaling is a overspray of clear semi-gloss since the "real deal" it's modeled after is fairly glossy.
  6. Painting near all done except for some touch up work.
  7. Yes indeed Hubert. That was a terrible u/c design on the Buffalo.
  8. I don't think we'll see many, if any, Brewster Corsair builds. Another something out of the usual.
  9. Making more progress with painting underway. This is the a/c I'm planning. It's a F3A-1 Corsair built by Brewster. Unfortunately Brewster didn't do too well building the Corsair with many management problems. I think this is the only one still around.
  10. Well done Gaz! Sure is purty. Foiling isn't my cup of tea but you've done a great job of it! Very nice work.
  11. I too am a fan of the Quinta stuff. Looks great, easy to use!
  12. On second thought I used the Grand Phoenix cockpit set and not Aires. Laps in memory! LOL
  13. Thanks Peter. Agreed! And supply me with all the Corsair kits I want for free! LOL 🤣
  14. Hi Troy, The -4 Corsair kit is not too bad but needs some "improvement" by replacing the cockpit with a after market one. I used Aires. The prop needs replacing and one from a Hasegawa P-47 fills that bill well (thanks for the tip on that Martin). The wing fold setup, in my opinion, is a joke and very toy like. I replaced those with some left over parts from a Tamiya kit. I recommend you check out my recent WIP on their -4 which should give you some idea as to what to expect, etc. I built their -1D way before Tamiya brought out theirs and it took a lot of work to get "right". I don't remember all the specifics but the cowl flaps, prop, wing fold setup were pretty bad. Here's a link for the -4 build which should give you some info, etc. https://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/17257-trumpeter-f4u-4-from-sod/ In short Troy, their Corsair kits aren't nearly as good as Tamiya's. I hope this is some help for you. (I might take one of your -4 kits off your hands if you want to unload it. Since it's the only -4 out there in 1/32 I MIGHT want to build another one at some point.) John
  15. Just reinforcing my feelings about NOT getting another one. Too bad it's such a "Beast" to build. With or without the extras. I look forward to seeing the completed model.
