  1. Fresh off the front porch!
  2. Got a few fuzzy edges to fix from tape not seated at panel lines.
  3. I’ll be watching this one! Not sure why, but I just cannot get into building car models. I spent my youth building real cars, restored my Mustang over the years, love looking at detailed car models and I even have a huge 1/18 diecast car collection. But just cannot get into building them. Peter, I’ll just live vicariously through you on this build!
  4. As always, I’m shopping for AM to go with my kits I already have in the stash. I bought this Eagle Transporter kit shortly after they came out. Just couldn’t stomach the $100 price tag of the machined aluminum engine bells. Surfing around I stumbled across the Eagle 2 set on sale for $64. But would it fit the Eagle kit? Took my chances and rolled the dice. Yep! Same parts but with the addition of two more bells for the auxiliary power pod on Eagle 2. Now, the big question. Build as is, or delete the crew pod and make it a heavy lift Eagle like the CH-54, but Space 1999 version carrying around a Star Trek Shuttlecraft keeping with my “Science Fusion” builds? I just need to find a 1/48 SciFy subject to go with it. Thought about a bottom half of a lunar lander, but that would be too realistic. 🤪
  5. Just a quick tip for the rust issue. Woodworkers use a sprayable wax coating for their bare steel/iron table saw tops and other wood working shop tools with bare steel/iron surfaces. Glide coat is one brand. If you can clean them up, hose ‘em down with it.
  6. OMG! I just thought it was me that felt this way. So I’m normal?
  7. Hey! That’s a beauty!! Never heard of that aircraft. Odd looking bird, I like it!
  8. Looks like a little filing, sanding and then fluff and buff will fix that wind screen right up. You even get a practice piece with every kit!
  9. Good point. Never thought of it that way.
  10. I just realized that there is no Sunday July 10. Does this mean it goes on forever? Or July 9, tomorrow? Or Monday July 10?
  11. I was window shopping on eBay for “1/32 resin” to see what popped up. Started seeing a lot of Barracuda products and all were from China. There is also BarracudaCast which is the real deal sold by various vendors. But this Chinese counterfeit company is reproducing Barracuda Studios parts down to a “T” and just goes by the name “Barracuda”. Shop carefully.
  12. What’s the humidity like in your neck of the woods? I was out on Las Vegas in June when it was 103F. It was actually comfortable as long as you weren’t in the direct sun. People we met up with were complaining about it. Told them to visit SC this time of the year.
  13. I just picked up something new watching the dogfight scene yet once again. The walkway on top of the intake is only on the left side, not both sides like a lot of decals have. I’m sitting here looking at Tamiya decals and they are black. Got a Revell set that is yellow. Movie appears to be a medium gray.
  14. Yea, I’m sitting here now killing time between primer coats and sanding it. I’m quite pleased with myself with my fix. Not quite the FUBAR I thought it was going to be.
  15. Back together again! Amazing how much better it looks with correct wing droop and not rise. just a few inches of seams to fill and correct. I did discover a major color shade difference from the original paint work. Especially the bottom FS white. I didn’t put enough down the first time and I’m going to have to go back and lay down a bit more to get it right.
  16. WOW!! I hope mine turns out half as nice as yours has. Very impressive weathering skills.
  17. Given your space limitations, you’re doing great! If you were closer I’d give you an old roll around emergency AC unit I have in storage. It’s one of those stand alone units that you exhaust out through a window.
  18. Bottoms done! Overnight dry, respray the silver LE and reinstall everything and start the repairs.
  19. OK, I couldn’t stand it any longer. Ordered a kit off eBay the other night. Hopefully the wife will be too busy with the birthday party for the grands to notice a box on the front porch. What was your choice of wash used?
  20. The prey is pretty safe around here. He spends all day lounging around and looking for belly rubs or setting a trap for some sucker to think he wants his belly rubbed!
  21. Making some progress here finally. Repaint on the wings might be done this evening. I did the tops first using the black base method. On the bottom, white primer and then some gray tones to bring out the marbling effect and panel lines. I think I’ve watched the dog fight scene in Carl’s thread 20 times already trying to pick up on weathering and colors. I did notice that the bottoms of the ailerons were left white during the transition while the rest of the bottom was FS17875 white. Just gotta let the white dry so I can tape it up now.
  22. You guys just got me in trouble. All this Tempest talk got my “I Wants” all in a tither. Scored a Special Hobby kit for $80 shipped off eBay last night. Of course once the CC cools off a little (ordered some aftermarket for my 1/48 Space 1999 Eagle kit) I’ll be ordering the Barracuda nose correction for it as well. I figured since I have the old Revell Typhoon kit I needed a Tempest to go with it. Now I need to build these kits.
  23. Hey Mark, like other suggested, small and quick and get ‘er done! Very interesting timing on this thread. Just earlier today I was sitting at my bench and looking at the mess I made of my Revell F-14 (see WIP thread for my embarrassing screw up) and realized I need to build my bigger and more complicated subjects in the winter and during the spring and summer distractions stick to smaller and quicker builds or repeat builds I can knock out faster.
  24. A friend just came over earlier. I got to vent with him over the lawn. My 84 yo FIL comes to visit and he brings a huge dog he has no business owning at his age. Huge dogs leave huge piles and he’s never cleaned up behind a dog in his life. It’s kind of satisfying watching my wife run around the yard with bags in hand picking up behind him. I hate to admit it, but as I get older, I’m better understanding the old guy in the neighborhood when I was a kid that was yelling at anyone that dared step foot on his grass. I have an M1 Garand and a classic Ford in the garage. I’m about to go Walt Kowalski around here.
