Hey Nige One more thing, do you think you could use the extra paddle blade prop blades from the HK Lancaster on the HB B-24j to correct the wrong prop diameter by putting them on the B-24's prop hubs? I'm going down to my work bench right know to check this out. Thanks Ron G -

Hey Nige I'll take another look I might be wrong. But I have 4 of the WBs engines that only cost me around $25 US. I have 1 F4F-3 engine that I got off of Ebay thinking this might cure the poor engines in the kit. But it was the only one I could find with out having to purchase 4 Trumpeter F4F kits at $30-40US each plus shipping from China. That would cost more then I payed for the HB B-24j kit that I got for $150.00US. Ron G -

I finally found pictures of the radar setup. read a post on Britmodeler that said you could make it out of a bomb nose and P-38 drop tank. Time to do some scratch building. -

Hey all it's me again Anybody have any pictures of the wing radar that they used on the PBJ-1J's? I've looked all over the net and can't find any information or pictures of this setup. I'm thinking about using the radar dome from a Trumpeter F6F-3/5. Like this. I'm not sure if this will work or not since I can't seem to find any pictures of how the radar was on the PBJ-1J's. Also if anyone has these parts left over from their build I'll buy them, I could sure use em. Ron G -

Here are some more pictures of R-1830 series engines. This one is like the type used in the B-24's This one is the type used in the F4F-3/4/5 and is what comes in the Trumpeter F4F kits. This a rear view of an R-1830 with the carburetor on top. Not sure what plane this is. These are rear views of what I believe are R-1830s from B-24s and you can see the magnetos. They have the carburetor on the bottom, not sure if the B-24s had this set up Ron G -

Hey Nige They may be to far forward, but the correct P&W R-1830-41 will still not fit inside of the HB B-24J's cowls, no matter how far back you move them. I have a R-1830 from Trumpeters F4F-3, which is the correct diameter (see previous post) and it WON'T FIT! The R-1830-41's have the magnetos mounted on the rear, similar to the Japanese Sakae engine in Tamiyas Zeros. They should be similar the Sakae is a copy of the P&W R-1830. If you look closely at pictures of the R-1830 you will see two wire conduits coming off of the ignition ring, one on each side. These are the feeds form the spark plugs back to the magnetos on the rear of the engine. Hope this helps clear this up. In the photo below you can see the port side feed on the right of the photo. Its roughly 3 to 4 times as big around as the plug leeds. The black and silver thing on the top of the gear case is the prop pitch regulator. Ron G -

Hey Nige I don't think the cowl on the f4f fit that tight, but I may be wrong. The problem with the HB B-24 is the thickness of the plastic it's nearly 1.5mm thick! Which is full size 50.8mm or 2", plus it's not the correct shape. I know I'm using the WB engines I have and doing a little scratch building to detail them out. Better push rod tubes, adding the propeller pitch regulator and a better ignition ring with lead detail wiring. Ron G -

Hey all The TSC4-G (R-1830-41) was 4' 0.0625" Dia. X 5' 3.48" lg. It was turbocharged simaliar to the B-17 engines. All of P&W twin row engines were called twin wasps. So I just measured the engine diameter of the kit engine and it scales out to 43.232" (1,098.092 8mm) the actual P&W R-1830 should measure 48.0625'' (1,220.7875mm) which leaves a difference of 4.8350" (122 809mm) thats 2.4175" (61.4025mm) off in radius in 1/32 scale thats 1.92mm! The Trumpeter F4F Wildcat P&W R-1830 scales out correctly its 48.0625" in dia. But the Trumpeter F4F P&W R-1830 will not fit in the cowling of the Hobbyboss B-24J. Williams brothers twin wasp engine will fit in the cowls of the HB B-24j. I need to measure it to get the correct size but its pretty damn close to the kit engine diameter. This is a TSC4-G R-1830-41 The one on the left is the kit engine and the one on the right is the kit cowl over the Williams brothers engine you can see that the WB engine looks much closer to the real thing. -

Hey Clunky One of my uncles on my mother's side was a radar operator on the D.E.W. up on the border of upper Saskatchewan. They lived on the base 6 to 7 months out of the year under a CRAP load of snow. They had tunnels in the snow from Quonset hut to Quonset hut. -

Hey Nige Just watched your video on the Aerocraft brass legs for the B-24. Great vid, but one thing make sure when you drill out the tow rings at the bottom of the main gear that you center the drill properly or you will break through and then you will have to fix ouch! Since you live in England can you get in touch with Alister and see if he can make those leg braces out of the same brass he did the main legs out of, I know he would sell them no problem. I would definitely take a set. These are the holes I'm talking about Ron G -

I found them on Scalemates. Williams Brothers is and old company they made scale models of different P&W and Curtis Wright engines in different scales from I believe 1/48 to 1/6 scale. They are long out of business, but check Scalemates to see if they have any left. They weren't expensive 15 to 20 dollars. There close but do need work to get good P&W r-1830's. Ron G -

As far as I know I'm German, Italian and Scottish, boy what a combination. on my dads side - father English/Scottish family came to the states through Canada to Michigan. My dads mother German came to the states from the black forest area of Germany after WW1. On my moms side, whos from Barbados - fathers Scottish family came to the west indies in the 1500's as indentured servants her mother came to New York, don't know when, then went to Barbados. My dad met my Mother during Ww2 he was stationed on Trinidad as a radio operator on B-25's patroling the Panama canal. They used to take R&R on Barbados thats were he met my mom. After a brief engagement they were married and he sent my mom to the states to live with my aunt, his sister in Michigan. When the war was over he came back home to Michigan and my mom. My grandfather on my dads side worked for Chrysler at the Mound rd. tank plant making Sherman tanks. There all gone now its just my brother's and me and our families. Ron G -

Hey Nige It's definitely weak, I almost broke it off just test fitting it in the wing. Actually replacing that piece with a brass one would really do the trick. I wonder if we could gett the gentleman who did the brass inserts to do those pieces also. Ron G
