Ok here some pictures. First the kit cowl. Box art of the two kits. The kit parts for the A6M2b Sakae 12 engine. This is the updraft carburetor part. This is the shorter nose gear cover and the rear cover parts. This are the support rings for the Sakae 12 engine. The include parts for the Sakae 21 engine. These are the longer nose gear cover and rear cover for the Sakae 21 (included in the kit). These are the support rings for the A6M5 and Sakae 21 engine. This is the down draft carburetor for the Sakae 21 engine. This is my modified 20mm cannon. This has the larger drum magazine. Also the barrel will be replaced with the Master one. This shows the part from the A6M5 (included in the kit) that allows room for the larger magazine drum. Well that's as far as I am at the moment. Still doing research. So let me know what you think and any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Ron G These are the magnetos and intake scoop for the down draft carburetor. This picture got out of sequence sorry about that.

Ok here goes. I'm going to try to turn Tamiyas 1/32 A6M2b into a A6M3 model 22. This will involve using some of the kit parts that are meant for the A6M5 (earlier release) that come in the kit. I'm really new to all this Japanese stuff. It sure is a lot more complicated than US stuff. From what I have been able to determine the A6M2b used the Sakee 12 which has a upfed carburetor (it's mounted on the bottom of the engine) thats why there's a air intake on the lower part of the cowl. It also has a shorter nose gear cover then The Sakee 21. The A6M3 model 22 uses the Sakee 21 which has a downfed carburetor (it's mounted on the top of the engine) and has a air intake on the upper part of the cowl (similar to the A6M5). It also has a longer nose gear cover and the rear of the engine is different. My first problem is do I have to modify the kit cowl or is there a different option? Can I use the cowl from the A6M5? It doesn't look like the right shape to me. I'm just starting on this, all I have done is create the long barrel 20mm cannon from the extra parts in the kit (I have the Master brass barrels for the A6M5 that I'm going to use on this). I also am about to paint all the area that will be Aotake with Vallejo metal color white aluminum before I lay down a coat of the Aotake. When I get down to my work area I'll post some pictures. Mitsubishi A6M2 correct cockpit color?

Hey Gaz It seems Aotake is a real can of worms. I'm going to be using Vallejo model air Aotake from one of their Japanese paint sets. It's a little to blue, so I'm going to add some clear green then spray it over flat aluminum. Make sure you find out what areas of the aircraft should actually be painted with Aotake. [Disregard] Ok, I think I know how I'm going to take care of the landing gear. Now what do I have to do to convert this too a A6M3? I have the Master gun barrels for the A6M5, what else do I need to change to make it into a A6M3? I saw a video on YouTube of one done as a "3" it really looked cool. Motteled green over the original grey the guy also added a ton of extra scratch building stuff to it also. Would like to make mine something like his. Thanks Ron G -
Would love one but that's way past my fixed income level

Hey Clunky Does anybody make a conversion system for the landing gear situation? I know Eduard has photo etch for it. But does anybody make a resin replacement for the landing gear bays and landing gear. Could you use G factors gear for the Hasagawa Zero on the Tamiya? I would like to know before I hack up the kit stuff. Thanks Ron G -

Yes I have checked it out Dave thanks. Ok I think I have a handle on the cockpit color I'll have to mix my own from my existing Vallejo stock. Now I need to figure out a mix for the blue/black on the cowl and rear deck (part under the canopy). Heres what I'm thinking 50% black, 40% dark sea blue, 10% med blue sound right? -
Thanks it worked.

Can you post a picture of the cross reference chart or send me a copy via a pm?

I can't use Lacquer paints so Gunze is out. I just need the correct shade of green. So I can mix my own colors. -

Ok but what is the correct color? -
Hey all I've set the B-24 aside until some aftermarket stuff arrives in the mail. So I decided to start on my Tamiya A6M2b Zero. I'm going to be doing it using all Vallejo paints. And need to know what color to do the cockpit in. I have looked on the net and have seen many different shades of green from dark, almost bronze green to light like British cockpit green. So what is the proper color for this little oriental bird. This will be my first Japanese aircraft model. Thanks Ron G

Hey Nige I'm to old too get down on my knees, if I did I would never get up, but I'm prying along with you. You can get a tractor in 1/32 scale I posted a picture of it in the B-24 thread. But a proper fuel truck now that would be fantastic!!! oh o wheres my nitro pills...lol just kidding

I must be crazy, B-24J on the bench.

Hey all Was looking on the wheel and tire chart snd found out that the B- 24's front tires where a 36"SC and that the P-38's main tires are the same 36"SC. So if you can find the Aires tire/wheel set for the P-38 you got two front tires for your B-24. Ron G
