1/24 Airfix Bf-109G
PanzerWomble replied to Martinnfb's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
From my experience , water ok ish , their own thinner used sparingly is better , also some swear by Tammy X20 which is better than water and has less retardants. I've used all three in the learning process . It's doesn't react that well to hotter stuff like MPR self levelling or other things with high IPA content ( it can 'split' like milk does) . Found once I had a good feel for the viscosity, it becomes more straightforward , initially I was put off by me over thinning . You can spray them straight from the bottle according to their blurb, which is ok if you just want heavy coverage , but out of the bottle viscosity varies by pigment density. But this is what I love the best , esp being a big fan of Mike Rinaldis work . In this vid he's put the paint on a bit thick , put it on a bit thinner and it drops off easily. Sorry if I'm being a bit of a proselyte . -

Looking great , nice tonal variations .l dont know if you are a fan of Flory washes but used them in the past on NMF and they really pop the dirt and smoke residue effect . -
Drivers going to have to lean a long way out of his hatch to see anything on that representation π€£ It's a pity no other manufacturer makes a Chally 1 , the old 1986 Tamiya kit's ok-ish ( I built a KFOR one a few years ago) , but theres a lot of stuff missing from the boxing . I see Twumpy planned to do one , not sure if that would be much of an improvement though.

Glad you modified the gonadlas , they look great now . -
Sounds like an annus horiblis as our Liz once said , thats Latin for huge sh%t storm . I hope youβre well on the way to getting back on a sounder footing. You didn't miss much - just a bunch of blokes glueing bits of plastic together; the endeavour of which is truly nada compared to loosing your home and cars . Best wishes from the UK

Mirrors Revell's approach with their 1/32 Fw190 , have to shave a lot off the engine to close up the nose . -

ππππΊ 100% approve , have I? .....at all.?.... mentioned they may chip/reduct very well using odourless thinners .π€ͺ Took me a little while to make the change but not going back . Tamiya / MRP makes a good undercoat as it is more robust. Oh and also they level very well , brush touch ups over sprayed areas blend pretty good. PS I thought Arsfix putting an RAF colour scheme in there was just kinda silly TBH for a first release , although if you can't do mottling or use an airbrush at all I guess it gives you a way out . -

Its funny how all manufacturers struggle at time with nose cones, given its a simple shape . Good probe π -

Interesting seeing that they painted the wing root black (?) presumably for the same exhausty reasons as they did on the FW190s? . I've not noticed that before on 109s but TBH it's not my area . Poor old Heinz, apparently he got bounced and shot down 18 days after that pic was taken by a mean ol' P47 . -
