  1. The sights ...the smells ....the glamour ......πŸ˜†
  2. I blame Chris Flodberg , his wonderful technique is here:- Link Obvs I used foam approach not the oats thing . His Yamato
  3. Why I shun public transport ...
  4. πŸ˜†Oh I know that one for sureπŸ˜† ...done a few epoxy water dios over the years , a very quick way of ruining an otherwise nice model & diorama. Leaks , exothermic bubbling , melting foam . .....ah the stuff is such fun . The answer is probably slow cure resin but then you run the risk of leaks / dust ...grrrrr ...lining the bed with aluminium foil worked well for me as a barrier between the foam and the epoxy. Plus, as hard as it is to get correct, they never sell ....go figure ??? I stopped bothering in the end . πŸ™„
  5. My weekend ..spent layering gloss medium . As dull as it looks . It's white till it cures to clear ., about 30 minutes , then another layer.... For some reason it's producing bubbles , maybe the underlying foam , maybe just natural degassing ? Either way I'm having to pop bubbles with a lighter, shades of chasing bubbles in epoxy waterscapes. Few more layers then start with foam , and then putting the U Boat in position .....getting there slowly.
  6. Saw Firefox in the Cinema when it came out - teenage me though it was very cool , middle aged me thinks it didn't age so well although once he takes off it becomes a more entertaining . All the flashback/PTSD stuff seemed a bit hokey TBH , might have chosen a better pilot than Clint . Wasn't aware anyone had made a IM kit of the aircraft , which certainly looked the part . Should have looked on scalemate I guess πŸ˜€ They made a full scale one for the film I believe Nice subject for the GB , lil diorama maybe ?
  7. Crazy good build , the better this gets the less I want to try building one πŸ˜† as I'm vicariously enjoying yours better than driving myself nuts with all that PE and Resin.
  8. Life's too short , bin it ! Twas a nice idea, & nostalgia builds sell a lot of crappy old Airfix, but they don't bring much joy in my world . You've got 'Kit of the Year 2016' sat wanting some love . ❀️
  9. Any more pictures of this particular airframe , she's real sweet .
  10. Woot .......Tomcat back on the Menu ????? Go ! Peter Go !, this should be a cracking build !
  11. Plasmo (David Demak) did something very similar a while back , might be worth it for some tips ?
  12. Several paint jobs later, have settled on a mix of Paynes Grey and Prussian Blue , loosely mixed to give natural variation , ie some more blue / some more grey and then painted the entire surface. Last few seascapes were all predominantly lighter grey and wanted to get away from that esp as the scale is larger, and a darker sea scape works with the scenario of a dying boat . Yeah I know...... artsy twonk I am . Here I am using a torch obliquely to look for any regular texture pattern or brush strokes, which will scream manmade, especially when all the gloss medium is covering it . I've had to adjust several areas using medium and paint to block out the tissue pattern ( top right) . When this is all good, then it's 10+ layers of gloss medium to build up the sea ...and of course I can mix in colour to these layers to really mess with the sea scape . Also thinking a small oil slick might be nice but not idea how to do that now ....oil paints .....Tamiya's Smoke paint ....??
  13. I forget how big these things are , and made from resin I'n guessing a fair few lbs too ? Burner can looks great BTW πŸ‘
  14. She's gonna be one large impressive Tonka when done . πŸ˜€ Could I offer a thought?, I found a while ago that putting subjects at an angle to the base often focused the attention more on them than the background and made for more a dynamic scenario , rather than having them square to it . Again just a thought .
  15. Just catching up, this is superlative work Rob. Almost a shame to bury that gorgeous cockpit in the fuse.
  16. Great and natural looking ageing on the petrol tanks , one of those parts you know got battered everytime someone went near them with a jerry can .
  17. A good save before the paint started going on there Scott .
  18. Paint or pencil ? I found prismatic pencils and / or thin sharpies were handy for walkway lines and a lot less bovver than masking , but then maybe I'm just lazy . Neat how they go under the ducting .
