Kaireckstadt Posted April 30, 2021 Author Share Posted April 30, 2021 Yesterday I added all the missing rivets to the airframe. Took some time but now it’s finished. Here are some sample pictures: Then I moved over to the guns. The representation Italeri created is more than poor. Since the caliber of the gun is 30mm I used 0,9mm cannula to replicate them. I used reference fotos from the Duke Hawkins Book. The damping-rings are not the same for the C and DS but the arrangement is the same: The damping-rings (although prominent on the real plane nothing provided by Italeri) came from the Eduard Exterior Brass Set and were really fiddly to bend and glue: But the result was acceptable for me. The last thing I did was to add the pitot tube to the nose. It has to be attached already at this stage because it’s partly painted. I used the Master pitot which needed some rework to make it fit perfectly.: That’s all for today. Thanks Gus, If you mean the pitot: I think it protrudes so much because it should be in totally undisturbed airflow in front of the plane (same as with the 104). I use them as often as possible for my kits. Kaireckstadt Posted May 2, 2021 Author Share Posted May 2, 2021 Yesterday evening I took care once again of the cannon dampers. A friend of mine told me that the web between the damping rings wasn’t present on the real aircraft. So I carefully removed it: Then I moved over to the landing gear. The front landing gear only has the hydraulic lines for the nosewheel-steering. The landing-lights aren’t present at Israeli Mirages. The hydraulic cylinder of the nosewheel damper was painted with my 1 mm Molotow Chrome pencil. Then I brushpainted it with Tamiya XF-16 flat aluminum. Detail painting and slight weathering will follow: Next was to paint the hydraulic dampers on the main wheel legs, because after installation of the scissors on the legs you can’t paint them anymore: Again Molowtow pencils (1 and 2 mm) were used. This has to dry overnight before I can continue with the detailing. Last thing I did was the assembly of the subsonic tanks. What do you think about the fit? Correct: also here rework needed! Since this was the last assembly of the kit the result is: No assembly of the whole kit without any rework!! I never had this up to now in my long modeler life... Italeri simply left them out: Then I painted the flexible hydraulic hoses of the front landing gear: Not that big...It‘s now ready for weathering. Finally I prepainted the main landing gear legs and added the scissors. The casting quality of them was really bad: fresh from the sprue... reworked ... I know what you mean. These were my reference pics: and this is how the legs of the model look like: I didn’t add any electrical wires since they would have been too small.
