Sorry about your loss Peter. Getting old sometimes sucks. 

Nice progress on the P-40. From what I understand, you can build the engine completely separate from the plane so you could display beside the completed model and still have the cowls buttoned up.

Nice to see Progress Peter.  The cockpit looks excellent and I am glad to see that the nose pieces came together sweetly.  Will you be sanding away the Mr. Surfacer, or using the cotton bud method to strip the excess away?

 

I'm sorry  for your loss and medical issues.  I hope things clear up for the both of you.

 

Anyway...  Mostly I'm glad you're back.

It's so very good to have you back here Peter. I like Carl's idea of presenting the engine along the P-40. Progress looking great. I wonder if the internal detail would be sufficient for a cutaway model, at least for the engine cockpit and radio section. I would be tempted to do a partially cutaway project for a change.

Thanks Rob, feels good to be back and at the bench again as well. 

I will build the engine as a separate model down the road as Carl is 100% correct. 

As far all the time I spent adding the fuselage details, it would make a good cutaway project. But for GWH to lavish that much time and expense, which ultimately the buyer pays for just doesn't make sense. So few builders would do a cutaway built and the biggest reason I added all the parts was to show what was included in the kit and no real way to see it after the fuselage has been closed up. Seems as if GWH went to lunch with ZM and talked about what internal details should be included in an expensive kit.

CLOSING UP THE FUSELAGE

Pin washes are done, all the remaining decals, placards, seatbelts,  super small PE parts have been added and some light dry brushing as well. I used a good balance of the detail parts from GWH, Eduard and Quinta and the effect does look quite good. As I have already discovered and seems to continue: part placement and orientation is an issue as the instructions are not clear and nor specific enough. Directional locating arrows quite often just go in the general direction or even indicate wrong location. 

 I’ve been very careful with locating parts, removed paint from all the mating surfaces and there still are fit issues.

I decided to use pin washes in the fuselage interior just because I added all the detail parts as extra insurance in case something more can be seen then I assumed earlier. Unfortunately, so little actually can be seen.

With the fuselage buttoned up, I thought now would be a good time to test fit the nose assemble and the fit has some issues I’ll need to resolve.

The seat is finished and resting in place on the wing, as it's not attached to the cockpit bulkheads at all.

Thanks Carl and completely agree 100%.. I did spend more time then I thought I would on the internal, never to be seen details but as long as the kit included them, I just thought I would add then and one thing led to another and a lot of wasted time in my book. 

I just can't understand why manufactures devote so much of their resources to providing all these details that will never be seen. Personally, a waste of time and money on both sides of the coin. I just saw a 'Telford review' of the upcoming HK A20 and the details look amazing - but the same deal, so much will not be seen once the model is built.
