JohnB Posted June 25 Share Posted June 25 I decided to build this P-40 to depict a P-40E flown in the defense of Darwin, Australia in 1942 when the Japanese were on a roll. It should be a good subject for weathering since the conditions there were pretty rough. No matter what I tried to do the Interior yellow/green just would not come up to the shade it should be in these photos. Please bear with me as my photo editing apps are different now from the one I used to have (lost it when I had to dump everything and re-start my computer. Spitfire Posted June 25 Share Posted June 25 Nice start, I like early war subjects so will keep an eye on this one, my old camera always used to mess up greens so I can sympathise with you. And if you do not like Windows 10 then definately avoid Windows 11, I have 3 desktop PC's and only 1 is compatible with Windows 11 so I gave it a go but after 2 days went back to 10, it was truly awful. I fully appreciate you frustration and you know me, I try not to get started on photography and post work, as I carried away with myself. Not replacing it with some after market stuff saves some $$$$. I'm still searching the internet for a photo editor app that I like. JohnB Posted June 25 Author Share Posted June 25 I decided to replace the kit prop, which has slightly narrower and pointy blades, with blades from a Grey Matter prop set for the P-40 (the GM mounting piece had been lost at some point). I had to remove the kit props from the center mounting, drill out some mounting holes, then CA the replacement props in place. Not a huge difference but noticeable, at least to me. When I was still at the bank, we had Windows XP on our laptops. The "big " leap was going to Windows 98. This was around 2006-7. A friend in the tech support dept called me up and asked if I wanted to guinea pig Windows 2000. She said I always found interesting issues that drove IT nuts solving so she thought I'd be great for it. I said sure and soon after had it installed on my laptop. At that time she told I was one of 3 people running 2000 in the entire bank on a live computer ( one fully connected to the bank's servers). No pressure. Lol. Spitfire Posted June 26 Share Posted June 26 As to reason I switched back to 10 from the shiny new 11 it was the new File Explorer on 11, with 3 PC's I am always moving files around, but the Windows 11 version is not very user friendly or as versatile as the old one. So after researching the problem and finding a lot of like minded people I switched back to 10, there was a convoluted way to load the old version but I was not going down that path, just reading it hurt my brain. I did some checking in my 2 D&S books on the P-40's and it appears to me the pointy props were mainly on the B/C's and MAYBE some "E"'s but, as near as I could tell, the "E"'s seemed to have the slightly broader props.
