I could not help myself. Had this Radu Brinzan conversion in the drawer for years. Suddenly whipped out a Me262 kit and sawed off the nose. The resin nose is a pretty good fit. Some boiling water to make it fit perfectly.

The bulkhead has major shrinkage and can’t be used. See in the pic: the one on top is the MDC resin. The lower Trumpeter. I will make a 3D one and print it.

The whole floor has shrinkage too. This was supposed to be a quick build. :)

I didn't know Radu did a conversion for this kit.  Wow.  And that is some shrinkage.  Water must have been COLD!!!

Cool that you can 3D print stuff like this.

I wonder if it would be helpful if we had a library here on LSM where people could post the 3D printing files they would not mind sharing?

Nice fit of the nose to the fuselage.  Probably the best fit of the entire kit...

In principle, the idea of sharing 3D-files seems a good idea. However, designing a 3D part can be time consuming, even if this is a hobby and we do not see the time there in the same way as working time.

Sharing a 3D-file for free means the designer looses control of the whereabouts of the said file. And who says that the file will not end up in the hands of someone who will then sell the file to others for a profit ? We already see a lot of this with music or video creations. This is basically piracy of intellectual property.

There are already some websites that share - for free or for a fee - some 3D files. This was also the principle of Shapeways, who also did the printing, but finally priced themselves out of the market.

I have already shared some printable 3D files, and asked the recipient that he did not re-share, or worse, resell, the file. But it’s a game of trust. Doable on one-to-one sharing basis, but making files available through a website or forum is opening Pandora’s box IMHO. Remember the rules that had to be established for the Xmas raffle ? Just another proof that people profiteering from others’ generosity do also exist in the modelling world.

Hubert

PS:  nice progress Jeroen. Sorry abou the thread drift.

Fighting the shrinkage. Adding shims to the sides of the floorbed.

Bought the Eduard zoom set for the Revell kit and hoping it will fot the Aires resin pit. We’ll see

Still trying to make the floor fit. Shrinkage all over the place. Removed all the floor detail on order to sand everything flush. Then i’ll have to scratch the detail back into place. A bit worried about the transparent parts.

This looks like a carbon copy of my work, with that styrene rod section too.

I also had a lot of shrinkage in the outer shells and had to add card to it to make it all fit.

First I have to say I’ve heard you both suffer from massive shrinkage, lol!!

I’m enjoying following along since I’ve built this kit using my skill set. I look forward to see what your skill set produces:

Wasnt happy with the rudder pedals. Aires lets you install these waaay too wide. And Aires does not provide the whole assembly. Scored a few of these to make life easier.

Alarmed by this shrinkage issue after purchasing some aftermarket

resin parts myself. Is this common? How old are your resin parts?

Were they 3d printed or were they cast? BTW I always enjoy following

your builds.....masterworks all.

Most PU resins used for casting have shrinkage. The best ones are in the 3% (max) rangé but some can go to as much as 10 % shrinkage. Selecting the right resin, for casting easiness, pot life, pouring facility, and shrinkage is a challenge at least, or an art.

And the silicone molds for casting  have their own shrinkage to deal with …

Combining the Aires resin cockpit with Eduard coloured PE and rudder controls. The PE needs some adjustment but nothing major.

My me262 control panel provides some mojo.

First paint in the pit. Mixed my own RLM66 to match the Eduard coloured PE. Much more stages to go, but it’s a start. Also found in my stuff original me262 breaker switch lettering. If that makes sense. I encircled them in one of the most useful me262 books i have for a modeller.
