GusMac Posted November 24, 2024 Author Posted November 24, 2024 Well, primer is on and thankfully just some fairly minor touch-ups needed to the joints. So hopefully just one more trip round the fill/sand loop. 3
Spitfire Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 Looks pretty good to me, a classic early jet shape. Cheers Dennis 2 1
GusMac Posted November 29, 2024 Author Posted November 29, 2024 Got the first paint on. Mr Paint Sky which goes on lovely and looks far closer to the 'proper' colour than the Tamiya XF-21 which was my other alternative. The more I use these paints, the more I like them as they are just so easy to use without the need to thin them. Sorry for the pictures but there's so little contrast between the Sky and the grey primer that it was difficult to get it clearly. Next up is masking before the upper surface paint. I've also realised I got ahead of myself and started this before I did the detailing in the wheel wells but shouldn't be a huge issue as it's just some lead wire and shaped plasticard. I'll just do it before I mask off the wells for the interior green. 6
GusMac Posted December 1, 2024 Author Posted December 1, 2024 More progress today while the missus was doing the Christmas tree. 90 minutes of masking.... Then 10 minutes with the airbrush and we have.... Couple of touch-ups needed around the front edge of the vertical stabiliser and the left side of the nose where there's been a slight bleed under the tape. I'm also not happy with the transitions on the nose which are too 'pointy' for my liking, so a bit more masking and another short session with the airbrush and we have... I'm a lot happier with this, so we're done with the main painting I think. MRP is just so easy for touch-ups as you don't have to worry about thinning it, so just mask and go. Next up is detailing the wheel wells. 9
HubertB Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Looking good Gus. It was a good-looking airframe, with neat, simple lines, just like the Hawker Seahawk. It’s a pity Supermarine missed the idea of a tricycle undercarriage… Hubert 2 1
Spitfire Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Beautifully done, that is looking so good. Cheers Dennis 2 1
DocRob Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Looking great Gus. This unique bird has the typical looks of an in between construction. Many modern aspect, but lots of old school approaches as well. There lays a certain charm into. Cheers Rob 2 1
GusMac Posted December 10, 2024 Author Posted December 10, 2024 Got some detail added to the main wheel wells and painted up. The wells are painted interior green as recommended but I think now they might have been better slightly darker but it's too late now. The detail is based on the few photos I've been able to find online - nowhere near exact but representative of what was there. Hopefully after some weathering everything should blend together okay. Also got the tailpipe painted in Vallejo exhaust manifold which is the closest I can get to the pictures. So, it's a gloss coat next then on with decals and weathering. 9

GusMac Posted December 19, 2024 Author Posted December 19, 2024 Got the main decals on. The decals are from Fantasy Printshop and, although a little reluctant to leave the backing paper, settle down nicely with some Microsol. Hardest part was trimming around the wheel wells (and remembering to keep the trimmed bits for the doors)! There aren't many stencils, so hopefully get them all done in one sitting. 7
Spitfire Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Now that is really looking the part. Cheers Dennis 1 1
GusMac Posted January 3 Author Posted January 3 Finally got some bench time after the kids went back home and my flu recovered, so a bit more progress made. Panel line wash done and satin coat on, although it's a bit flatter than I'd hoped. Got the remaining parts primed and the MRP Sky on those parts that require it. Detail painting and washes next, although two very small sections of decals to go on the longer gear leg doors. Hopefully, should get it done this week. 4
DocRob Posted January 3 Posted January 3 Close to the finish line, Gus. What a rare beauty, well, beauty in a way , but I like these early jet designs and you seem to tackle her easily. Cheers Rob
GusMac Posted Tuesday at 09:48 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 09:48 PM Calling this done. Will post some more photos in the Finished section. Very enjoyable build of an unusual subject. 2 1
