ScottsGT
Wow…I thought Barracuda was on their game when they designed decals. I dug out my old Squadron/Signal book on the P-40 to do some referencing. The Aleutian Tigers had a Star without the blue surround. I also noticed one of the planes had diamond tread tires. Im off to look for correct decals now. I might just have to live with the kit tires though. Take note that the eyes are also different. I’m trying not to let my OCD take over and start calling this “unbuildable” and throw it on the SOD.
ScottsGT
And I just noticed the white fuselage band is leaning in the wrong direction too.
BlrwestSiR
Scott, is the Squadron book correct? Seeing that it's a drawing, it could be off too. Unless there's a pic in the book of the plane showing it match the profile. As for the stripe facing the wrong way, just switch the decals around from one side to the other. Also, looks like the 49 is smaller on the desal sheet.
Martinnfb
I see blue circle and the stripe as per Barracuda.
ScottsGT
Martin, interesting pic. Taken a second before that the one in my book. Pilot on the right just tossed the football in this pic. But this…
ScottsGT
And yes, the Squadron book does have the stripe angled wrong in their artwork. Interesting. I’ll probably go ahead and just use the decals as they are. I’m not out to win any accuracy awards. Just build a model!
Spitfire
Nearly there, mottling all done, masking removed from the fuselage band and tail, just the markings and detail parts to do. The set up for the mottling Mottling done and white masking removed Undersides masking and Blu Tac removed, nice soft edge on wrap around camouflage. Had to mottle the cowling seperately as I had left it on the shelf and forgot about it when I did the main airframe. The last lap Cheers Dennis

Whilst the pic submitted by Martin seemed to have a blue surround on « 49 », a closer look confirmed there was no surround. It would seem an easy enough mod, by just cutting the white star out of the blue surround. Hubert

Martinnfb
BLUE!!!! The fact that it was faded doesn't mean it wasn't there. Look at this Burma's K, it's faded but its there. 7

HubertB
Dang ! You’re absolutely right Martin ! Kudos (again) for your unmatchable pic-finding skills And this confirms (again) that most WWII fighters and ops are out of my scope-of-knowledga Hubert
Martinnfb
You're most welcome guys. There are few misinformations that have a tendency to circulate and re appear. I don't have much time to dig in into this deep enough today, but I can further help (regarding P-40) if needed, just PM. 4

ScottsGT
Got the P-40 cockpit almost ready to install. And made some progress on the HIMTT chassis. Started the wash. interesting how the desert sand color didn’t come out in the pic.

Spitfire Posted yesterday at 11:28 AM Share Posted yesterday at 11:28 AM Still plodding on with this one, I masked and painted the national markings but had to use decals for the rest but they went on fine. And just for fun with the cowl loosely in place. And the real thing Cheers Dennis
