  1. The AK Interacive chipping fluid works well but if you're trying to replicate a specific pattern of chipping I don't think it's the way to go. For moderate chipping I still prefer the salt method since it's easy to control the size and shape of the affected areas.
  2. Bf 109 Tools and Boxes (32351) Catalog # 32351 Available from Eduard for $22.95 US Bunny Fighter Club price: $19.51 US Wrapping up my marathon session of reviews for the Revell Bf 109G-6 it's time to take a look at "Bf 109 Tools and Boxes". This is a slick little set that will work great for your next Luftwaffe diorama. Also if you're like me and like to photograph your finished Luftwaffe subjects in their natural habitat, (and I'll pre-empt you Mustang fans by saying the natural habitat of the 109 is not in the gun sights of a P-51!) these will look great alongside your model. Obviously this set will lend itself to any setting and any nationality, with the caveat that I did not break out the digital calipers to determine whether the open end wrenches were SAE or metric sizes! Not much to say other than it should be neat little accessory. A glance at the instructions looks like you assemble the drawers and then slide them inside the larger box, much like the roll-around tool cabinets I used in my Air Force days. So what do we think? A neat set for any aircraft portrayed in a maintenance setting. If you're a fan of portraying your 1/32 warbird in this type of environment you can't go wrong with this one. Highly Recommended With thanks to Eduard for the review sample. Mike O.

  3. Bf 109G-6 Photo-Etch Set for Revell Kit (32788) Catalog # 32788 Available from Eduard for $29.95 US Bunny Fighter Club price: $25.46 US Eduard continues to deliver the goods for the 1/32 Revell Bf 109G-6 (Early and Late), this time bringing us one of their more traditional upgrade sets in the form of two photo-etch sheets. One being a pre-painted, self-adhesive set for the cockpit and the other aimed primarily at the exterior of the aircraft. You may recall from our earlier review of this kit that the decals were somewhat thick and impervious (seemingly) to decal softener. The pre-painted instrument panel will come as welcome relief if you wrestled with this issue like I did. The color printing is clear and sharp and the layout appears to match up against the real thing fairly well. Also included are some bits and pieces for the sidewalls, including the oxygen gauges which Revell neglected to provide decals for. Not pictured but included is a small clear acetate sheet for the reflectors for the gun sight as well. The layout for the IP is a "sandwich" design. I generally hit the parts with a flat coat after everything is assembled and then use a drop of future on each of the gauges to represent the glass cover. The only drawback I see is that the shade of grey that Eduard uses for RLM 66 does not match up well with the Mr. Color I paint I use. Many aircraft used a black instrument panel which does not present a problem, but WW2 Luftwaffe aircraft used the overall cockpit color on the instrument panel as well, either RLM 02 or RLM 66 depending on the time frame. This presents a bit of a challenge since Eduard's pre-painted color will typically not be a match for the paint you're using for the rest of the cockpit. One alternative that has worked for me is carefully masking the non RLM 66 areas with liquid mask and then shooting the parts with your overall cockpit color. This can be a bit tedious and may not always be feasible but I've achieved success with it in the past. The second sheet contains items that present a better scale thickness in metal than they do in plastic. The seat bucket, canopy headrest, wire looms, control boxes and several other items are included. Bending photo-etch can be a bit tricky sometimes so many modelers sometimes forego the more complicated stuff, I know I'm guilty of this! As always though it appears very well rendered and should look good on the model. So what do we think? A nicely done set that will definitely bring some pop to your Revell Gustav. Eduard made a name for themselves doing high quality photo-etch and this isn't a departure from what made them famous. Highly Recommended With thanks to Eduard for the review sample. Mike O.

  4. Yeah, the PCM 190 kit builds up pretty well with a little TLC. Wish they would have made it modular to accomodate an A-4 version. Hopefully I'm going to be doing a JG 1 A-4 this year with the Montex conversion set.
  5. Steve, I was leaning towards an Erla machine too. Looking for something a bit off the beaten path for my Revell G-10, I think I can get away with this scheme without too much guilt! Thanks!
  6. Anyone know the origin of this aircraft? Erla, MTT or WNF? http://www.eagle-editions.com/eaglecals/32/bf-109s-click-to-view-all-available-markings2012-10-08-13-53-58_4/eaglecals-80-32-bf-109-g-10s-detail.html
  7. Amazing stuff, David!
  8. Thanks, guys! Matt, still waiting.
  9. Love those late war 109's from JG 52! Six or seven that I want to do.
  10. Nick, I think the finished products will come out looking pretty similar to each other, dependent oh how much A/M you want to invest in. Replacement Beule are mandatory on the Revell kit. I had some in the spares box, if you don't then you're looking at having to purchase the Alley Cat set or wait for someone else to do them. I don't think you can go wrong with the Hasegawa G-14 and a replacement spinner, it will look very much the part and go together with minimal fuss and muss.
  11. Finally! A complete set with tubes, brackets and rockets. I see Graf's "Green 1" from JGr. 50 in my future! http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/ED632034
  12. First entry for the Arrow Wolf Fw 190 GB complete. 1/32 Hasegawa kit with following upgrades: EagleParts cowl cover EagleParts cowl ring Quickboost guns Quickboost exhausts Eduard instrument panel Finemolds seat belts Paint is Mr. Color (what is else there?) The RLM 74/75 on the wings and horizontal stabs is based on the info in Jerry C.'s (fantastic) Vol. 2 on the D-9. Markings are a combination of Montex masks and the kit decals (stencils). The mask for the slogan ("Verkaaft's mei Gwand I foahr in Himmel!") didn't work out so I had to use the kit decal which didn't get the spelling quite right. Hopefully Heino will forgive me! Not much to say about the kit, it goes together beautifully, really a trouble free build. Pilot figure is Z-M. Thanks for looking! Mike
  13. Took me a little time to get used to the trigger but I don't think I could go back to the standard button at this point. The trigger just feels more natural.
  14. Nice to see some Russian subjects but I cringe at the price of resin kits. Haven't heard from Johann in several months on the status of his line of 1/32 VVS aircraft.
  15. There's a couple of Cutting Edge sheets that feature Erla G-10's and the Skydecals sheet for Italian 109's has at least one. BarracudaCals and EagleCals have both announced some new sheets to support this kit as well. I'm wondering if they knew this kit only comes with the large style wing bulges though. http://www.hyperscale.com/2013/reviews/decals/barracudacalsbc32144previewbg_1.htm
  16. From a post at HS: The Silver Wings team is dedicated to producing high-quality model kitsets of aircraft that our customers want to build. To that end, we are continuing to work through your "wish list" in 2014. As such, we are pleased to announce our 2014 release plan: 1/32 Boeing Stearman PT-13D/N2S-2 1/32 Fokker D.XXI 1/32 Curtiss P6E Hawk 1/32 Yak 9 1/32 Reggiane 2000 Falco As a Polish company, we really would love to release a PZL P.11. We are continuing our efforts to create a suitable model of this iconic Polish fighter in 1/32 scale and we hope that we will be able to add this to our 2014 release schedule. To further "whet your appetite", we are pleased to announce our future release list as well. These are the remaining items from the "wish list" our friends and customers have told us you would like to see. They are (in no particular order): 1:32 Lavochkin La-5 1:48 Northrop A17A 1:32 Heinkel He-112 1:32 Gloster Gauntlet 1:32 Aichi D3A Val 1:32 Nakajima B5N Kate 1:32 Curtiss Falcon Additionally, please note that starting with the Stearman we have changed our decals producer in an effort to provide even better quality for our customers.
  17. Great info, Steve. Thanks!
  18. This should be an epic project, Paul!
  19. So only one type of wing bulge and the one's that's included has shape issues? The Revell 109 family is getting a little frustrating.
