  1. Here's one that might be interesting: Can't find a kit of the 25 mm Hotchkiss but the Japanese Type 96 AA gun was a license built copy of the Hotchkiss gun. Shapeways does one in 3D print that could be adapted to a single mount. Would definitely be unique!
  2. Here's the current state of the beast. Ready for weathering, I'll try to refrain from any more work until the official start date, no promises though!
  3. Guys, please note that I've changed the start date to 1 June. Already getting quite a bit of interest so no need to delay it too much!
  4. This is going to be a "non-competitive" entry (well all mine are because I exclude myself from prizes! ) but just wanted to use this GB as motivation to get this one finished up. My friends at Photobucket unfortunately deleted all the WIP pics but I'll get some new ones up today.
  5. Yup, exactly. GBs are a good excuse to clear things off the shelf of doom so if you have something that's more than 25% complete, please share it. That entry won't be eligible for a prize but new projects (25% or less complete) will be eligible for a prize.
  6. Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force: You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on other Fronts you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world. Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped, and battle-hardened. He will fight savagely. But this is the year 1944. Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man-to-man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our Home Fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned. The free men of the world are marching together to victory. I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty, and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory. Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking. Dwight D. Eisenhower Welcome to the D-Day 75th Anniversary Group Build! This is the first new GB initiated in a while and hopefully will lead to more so your participation is appreciated! Rules: 1. The GB runs from 1 June 2019 until 31 January 2020, with a possible extension contingent on participation. 2. The GB is open to all subjects 1/35 and larger that were operational in the NW European theater from June to August of 1944. For AFV/vehicular subjects it should be a subject that was actually in the Normandy area. 3. Projects should be no more than 25% complete to be eligible for a prize. Projects more than 25% complete are welcome as non-prize eligible entries. Sponsorship: Temecula Valley Model Club will be awarding a prize (TBD) in the form of a raffle drawing for all completed entries. If you'd like to sponsor and donate a prize, let me know!
  7. I just finished the PCM 190 and it's very much a "Special Hobby" type kit, low pressure injection molded, no locating pins, etc. Although there's a sense of accomplishment, there was a lot of frustration and extra work that went into the kit. I vowed to stick to shake-n-bake kits for awhile to keep my sanity.
  8. You stud, if only you were bald you would be the total package!
  9. Sounds great, Frank! Glad I'm not the only one!
  10. I'm kind of burned out on aircraft so I think I will delve into ground bound subjects. I picked up the new tool Academy 1/35 Pz IVH and the Dragon "Stummel": I won't be using the those figures but I have a couple sets of HJ grenadiers. I'd like to do a diorama of 12th SS during the fighting around Caen in July of '44. Probably no way I can finish at the speed I build but it's something I've wanted to do for a while.
  11. Yes, but this will be the COOLEST GB! The others can wait!
  12. OK, here's a rough draft of the rules: Any subject 1/35 and larger that was operational in NW Europe in the June-August 1944 time frame. Having a direct tie in to the Normandy campaign would be good, but I realize that aircraft often operated far behind the front lines so I'll leave that to your discretion. Most air forces from both sides were heavily involved in this campaign so it shouldn't be real hard to come up with something. We'll probably go until at least the January 2020 but that's open for now.
  13. Phil, unfortunately the 1/48 makes it ineligible for entry.
