  1. I tried one of the lower inboard sections, and made a semi mess of it. It eventually turned out OK, but it took a full three weeks of messing with it. There HAS to be a better way. As was pointed out to me, the flaps were almost always retracted while on the ground, , so you'd think that would be the right way to display the model. The rest of the kit was about as nice as a resin model ever could be, and if those flaps weren't so scary, ythen one could get JohnB Corsair happy on these... Right John?
  2. I've reached the point in my build where there is no putting it off anymore. The dreaded PE flaps must be dealt with. Is there anyone here who has actually built the flaps from start to finish, with no shortcuts, nothing? The kit itself was actually quite pleasurable, with little to no fit issues at all, and if one can master the flaps, this'll be little more stress to build than a regular Trumpeter kit.
  3. Yeah, that’s all but unnoticeable in 1/32, especially when spread over a prop arc.
  4. Were the bomb doors on RAF and RCAF aircraft left open on the ground? As a general rule, US aircraft were left open, and in the South Pacific the entire aircraft was opened up to aid in cooling the interior.
  5. I’d say this is the right place. It’s “tweaks and tips”, and you’re tweaking the kit while giving us tips on the little issues. There’s a real nice Lanc in the box, but you’re making it into a masterpiece.
  6. Ohhh, wow! This is why I love this stuff. Nige, you’re insane! And I say that with the deepest respect and admiration. And Erk, you’re not far behind. You guys don’t stop till it’s perfect, then show the rest of us the way. The pilots seat is such a small part of, yet such a huge visual cue to the entire ‘big picture’. Like your previous B-17 work, Nige you’re conducting a genuine clinic here.
  7. Looking great so far, James. Thanks for (sort of) clearing up the green vs black cockpit question for me. I've been through a couple Lancs on this side of the pond, and all had black cockpits. I thought it might have been a postwar change, but most probably it's just a Canadian production difference. what an awesome thread!
  8. Have fun with the F-5F. I'm actually having fun building a jet. And that Sabre Dog is a decent kit as well, although it needs seamless intake in the worst way.
  9. CMK makes really nice stuff. Met those crazy Czechs at last year's Nats and they're a hoot! They've definitely learned the ins and outs of capitalism in the decades since the Velvet Revolution.
  10. This is close to my first comment on armor and afv's, and I'm blown away. It looks freakin' real. That's all I can say. Awesome job.
  11. What are those first two, Dave? as they a certain type of Grumman Panther model?
  12. Carl, I just can’t get past the 02 interior. I know it’s correct, but it mst have been distracting for the crew, all bright and shiny, and if you got shot, red blood spatters all over that shiny light grey. Seriously, I can see why they went to 66. a smart move, actually.
  13. But didn’t Ford pretty much manufacture all in house except engines? I’ve read somewhere that of all the plants, the Ford Willow Run plant was by far the most standardized. No surprise really, if you expected Ford to do it as Ford has done successfully for decades previous. I’m getting an ongoing education on these planes. With all the plants churning out Liberators, 24/7/365, logistics and standardization must have been a living nightmare. Even with Lancs, just trying to keep North American production somewhat standardized with British production turned into a logistical nightmare. And there was only one single overseas plant to deal with...
  14. I’ve bought several items from him, John. He’s one of the few shops that Revell P-51D-5s in stock. I’ve never had issues with him, and Loic has always been straight up and honest to deal with.
  15. Agreed, Peter. I’ve always prided myself on my freehand, but actually, the pattern’s not far off. It can be fixed and yes, I can roll some worms and that’ll definitely help. The color fallouts are good. I lightened it a bit already and will do some patchwork once I get the pattern perfect. There’s plenty of variation now, but some lighter areas will help as well. Hey, that’s what makes this fun!
  16. Hubert, it’s tough. Old habits die hard. Now explain the wood grain floor and the hand crank to close the canopy. And where’s the tailwheel? Everyone knows tricycles are for kids.
  17. Good deal, Carl. I’ve seen a few of these binned in frustration when someone builds themselves into a corner with this one.
  18. Carl, there are VERY serious errors on these extremely vague instructions. Brett Green on HS published an errata list for the instructions on this kit. In my opinion, it is ABSOLUTELY necessary for a pain free completion of this kit. Do a search online and if you can’t find it, I should have it somewhere. the nacelle parts are handed, and are almost indistinguishable from each other. And the instruction call outs are wrong in spots. Seriously, Do not proceed further without that sheet. It’s about a page and a half, and walks you through the sequences, start to finish. Ok, I looked quickly and found it. Read this. It’ll save your sanity. http://www.hyperscale.com/2008/features/bf110c732erratabg_1.htm
  19. So, everyone knows I suck at jets. Most know I suck at no Luftwaffe camo patterns. So, let’s try the three time grey that the kit supplies decals for. Yes, there’s also a Russian blue scheme, but this has to be OOB, so grey it is. So i carefully plan my attack, and......... Missed it by THAT much, Chief! it looks absolutely NOTHING like it should. Colors are not where they should be. Back to the drawing board, or at least we’ll do a few color line “adjustments” where needed. Yeah, we can fix it. I HATE masks when doing camo, although I know hat certain subjects, like British WW2 aircraft need to be masked and painted.
  20. Awesome awesome awesome! I went to post a slight update, and my build’s almost on the second page from all the new updates!
  21. Good GRIEF, that is amazing work. Impressive work, my friend, it’s an ambitious project and it’s good to see you’re well on your way. I’ve heard that taking the Revell kit road to RF-4C is a real adventure, but you’re kicking butt and taking names. In awe
