  1. What a tragedy that was. Today still, the thought of the bureaucratic bungling makes me sick to my stomach. I expect there were sailors that could have lived if the Soviets had allowed the world to help.
  2. There’s two sets
  3. just messing with you, my friend. No cork and wire fuel gauge for you. But it’s actually much, much easier to handle from the rear. Much easier to feel the swing starting before you even see it.
  4. Doesn’t one of the ZM weapons sets have Mk.81s?
  5. SO much like fun. And it’s a unique feature of this big ugly thing, so they gotta be at least partially open.
  6. There’s nothing simple about the flaps/dive brakes. If you backdate the kit to a -3 or a -1C, you get solid flaps/dive brakes. Late production -3s got the perforated flaps with serrated trailing edges. So if you wanna do a -4 like me, you better like PE.
  7. Yup, so it seems. I’d like the lower flaps open, but it all depends.
  8. Yeah I went to respond and I did something wrong. :-/
  9. OK, I went to respond to Nigel and instead screwed up his post by vanishing it into thin air. Yes, it seems like Nigel's post asking about accuracy is gone. If you see a post missing, it's MY fault. You may now laugh uproariously and point mockingly at this silly man.
  10. You gotta love those panel designs. Instruments placed totally haphazard, if there's space for an instrument, stick one there! The B-24 seems better than most, though. At least the basic flight instruments are (more or less) directly in front of the pilot.
  11. Cool thread. Of course I'll be contrary and might eventually come to the party with my Craftworks kit. Gotta love old,. old, old, OLD school resin.
  12. We will supply a full build review with pics etc, as soon as it's done. I wasn't sure going into this that this wouldn't end up being another abandoned HPH build. we all know how some silly unexpected mistake turns into a major issue on these things, or it gets knocked moff the bench and shatters into 3 million pieces, or whatever. It can and does happen, and I don't want to jinx it now. So give me time, and I hope within a month or two I'll have you a full build review.
  13. VERY nice. Canadian Leo 2 without all the Afghanistan add-ons. It's nice to see the basic vehicle itself for a change.
  14. I'm still wondering why he's flying from the wrong seat. Everyone knows real Cub-O-holics fly from the rear seat.
  15. I tried one of the lower inboard sections, and made a semi mess of it. It eventually turned out OK, but it took a full three weeks of messing with it. There HAS to be a better way. As was pointed out to me, the flaps were almost always retracted while on the ground, , so you'd think that would be the right way to display the model. The rest of the kit was about as nice as a resin model ever could be, and if those flaps weren't so scary, ythen one could get JohnB Corsair happy on these... Right John?
  16. I've reached the point in my build where there is no putting it off anymore. The dreaded PE flaps must be dealt with. Is there anyone here who has actually built the flaps from start to finish, with no shortcuts, nothing? The kit itself was actually quite pleasurable, with little to no fit issues at all, and if one can master the flaps, this'll be little more stress to build than a regular Trumpeter kit.
  17. Yeah, that’s all but unnoticeable in 1/32, especially when spread over a prop arc.
  18. Were the bomb doors on RAF and RCAF aircraft left open on the ground? As a general rule, US aircraft were left open, and in the South Pacific the entire aircraft was opened up to aid in cooling the interior.
  19. I’d say this is the right place. It’s “tweaks and tips”, and you’re tweaking the kit while giving us tips on the little issues. There’s a real nice Lanc in the box, but you’re making it into a masterpiece.
  20. Ohhh, wow! This is why I love this stuff. Nige, you’re insane! And I say that with the deepest respect and admiration. And Erk, you’re not far behind. You guys don’t stop till it’s perfect, then show the rest of us the way. The pilots seat is such a small part of, yet such a huge visual cue to the entire ‘big picture’. Like your previous B-17 work, Nige you’re conducting a genuine clinic here.
  21. Looking great so far, James. Thanks for (sort of) clearing up the green vs black cockpit question for me. I've been through a couple Lancs on this side of the pond, and all had black cockpits. I thought it might have been a postwar change, but most probably it's just a Canadian production difference. what an awesome thread!
  22. Have fun with the F-5F. I'm actually having fun building a jet. And that Sabre Dog is a decent kit as well, although it needs seamless intake in the worst way.
  23. CMK makes really nice stuff. Met those crazy Czechs at last year's Nats and they're a hoot! They've definitely learned the ins and outs of capitalism in the decades since the Velvet Revolution.
  24. This is close to my first comment on armor and afv's, and I'm blown away. It looks freakin' real. That's all I can say. Awesome job.
