  1. Wish you luck Dale, keep working on plastic, it’s good therapy to keep your mind focused.
  2. Beautiful finish!
  3. Watch out for the moose! They are mean until you get them grilled up!
  4. You are committed! Or maybe the question is, should you be committed? Lol! Seriously, we need some kind of identifier in people build thread titles. How about “45 Day build”?
  5. I realize the rounded placement is not correct, but it’s the only way to get them and the words to fit without cutting either, and it’s what the guy I’m building this for wants.
  6. Thanks, I was trying to go minimal with the weathering, because I was trying to depict a newly built F-6A, flying over Normandy during the invasion. These aircraft were rebuilt specifically for this Task and were kept in reserve until the landings, so my theory was that this aircraft would have been spotless on the morning of June 6. They did get beat up later in the following weeks and as they started operating from improvised airfields in France. Sadly, this is the second and probably the last Hobbycraft Mustang I will build because they are getting to be so hard to find anymore, or the prices are astronomical. Someday, if I find an A-36 Apache, I may build a very early version with the 2-tone camo and American markings.
  7. Not all my riveting, i just fixed the riveting I sanded off the seam lines and wing joints.
  8. Take care of you family first, I’ve been through the same.
  9. First time using Alclad’s Klear Gloss. It was unusual it smelled like mineral spirit based, but mixed great with lacquer thinner, also cleaned up easy.
  10. I just got the last item yesterday, my AFV coated canopy. I was waiting to get word on when the build starts.
  11. Is there going to be a specific group build spot to post under? How do we identify? Do we tag it with something or put something in the title, like “45 Day GB”?
  12. What ever happened with this build? Is it going to happen?
  13. Yes, definitely no alcohol, it makes Vallejo coagulate and you will have hours of fun cleaning your airbrush. If that ever happens, you have no choice but to tear it down. I learned that the hard way with MIG and Ammo by Mig paints, one is alcohol based the other is just like Vallejo. To this day I still forget which is which.
  14. Have you tried using both their thinner (retarder in it) and a few drops of flow improver? I found that you get more time between q-tip needle cleanings.
  15. Came out good after primer, I rescribed all the lines, re-riveted some areas, and got everything masked, I sprayed the first layer down. This will be what shows through the chipping, so I wanted a very dull looking silver.
  16. I am a fan of all planes. My first love in airplanes was Korean War Jets. When I was six, my first two planes were the monogram F-86, followed by the Monogram Mig-15. After the Korean jets, I built most everything through Vietnam era, then did a few modern jets, like the F-15, F-14, and F-16. After high school I started working, and playing with real cars and airplanes, then when I hit my mid 40’s, I started back into model planes and armor, mostly WW2, but last year I have been running through that cycle of jets again. So far I built 2 jets, one that is almost finished, a Mig-15, and an A-4 I have in primer. Next on the bench will be an F-117. So, my range is all over the place.
  17. This guy is getting paint this week.
  18. I should add that the Rustoleum brand is cheap, the name brand is not.
  19. There is something else you can try. In the automotive world, the same problem exists painting flexible plastic. They use adhesion promoter that grips to vinyl and urethane, and can be painted over. A car parts store brand is called “bulldog” and comes in a spray can. It’s not very expensive, so it might be worth a try.
  20. I believe the term is heat staining, I believe annealing is when you apply heat to change the properties of metal, like hardness and malleability.
  21. The hard way is to airbrush a few clear colors on it, you can get clear colors from Tamiya and MRP to name a few, however, the easiest way is to us Tamiya weathering powders, they make one set that has metallic blue, red, and smoke, perfect for heat staining engines.
