Very late group build entry, Marder III.

I have so,e Tamiya zim, but have never installed any yet, but from what I have heard, it does not stick worth a darn. I say, just buy a dragon kit, and maybe spring for track. It hurts to spend the price of a kit on tracks, but that’s the deal. one thing I just tried are link-n-length track, they are awesome. I just built a Marder and I’m very impressed.

The Val is coming, HpH (Infinity) is releasing it in 1/32 Styrene. First kit will be the 1/32 SB2C Helldiver. Release is scheduled for 2nd quarter of 2020. First production run will be 1000 kits. Planned for the future are in 1/32 scale: DH. Vampire Mk.3/ Mk.5, Westland Wyvern, Aichi D3A Val, Savoia-Marchetti SM.79, Douglas A-20 Havoc and Bristol Beaufighter Mk.X.

Seriously, don’t put down all band style tracks, the Dragon DS tracks are VERY nice. You should be able to pick up the Dragon tiger for between $45-60. You are going to spend another $15-25 if you want individual link tracks.

This is one of the best Zimmerit Tigers around, it does come with soft DS tracks, but they are considerably nicer than Tamiya band tracks. However, if you have your heart set on separate links, go for Fruil Metal tracks. I built mine with Plastic RFM tracks, and I will never do it again. Each link is 5 parts, each side is 96 links. Do the math, that’s a lot of frustration. The 30 bucks I saved on them was not worth it. You can also buy pre-assembled tracks on eBay for a few bucks more. http://www.armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Reviews&file=index&req=showcontent&id=3665

Since I finished my Mustang, I decided to throw one more build at this group build. This is a Tamiya Marder III, Normandy. I got most of the hull done that first night, in all it took me about 14 hours to get through paint. This is a really simple kit to build, the only thing that took a little long we’re the dozen or so ejector marks I need to sand out of the interior, which is exposed in this kit.

Hasegawa Nakajima Ki-84.

You bring up something many people didn’t know, there were different barrel types. They were equipped with Ho-103 .50 cal nose guns, and either 20mm Ho-5 cannons or 30mm Ho-155 cannons. The barrels you have are the 20mm type. A few were equipped with 20mm in the nose too. -
I have been wrestling with the colors, brown would work with yellow, and a dark gray with blue, but the wings leave me scratching my head. I think I may just go with a minimal approach, maybe just a dark gray panel wash, possibly some light gray oils for some streaking on the wings and fuselage? At very minimum, I’ll do a panel line wash. After all, the wings and decals are ruined on the undersides. See upper photo.

This mix of colors has me perplexed, I’m not sure how to weather such a wildly colored aircraft. Any opinions?

I have a slightly started Hasegawa P-47D, only started working on the IP and painted a few parts on the trees. Then I have a Hasegawa Zero that I painted the cockpit parts on the trees. I also have a Trumpeter F-105D with a completed cockpit, but nothing else done. And finally, I have a Trumpeter F-117 that is all black and extremely low parts count. So I think I’m in. That gives me two weeks to finish the Marder I was working on. Speaking of which, when is the other group build done? I finished the Mustang, just never took RFI pictures.

Dale, I think I figured out what happened to your tail...looking at another kit I have, there are three “fingers” on each side, they are designed to slide into each other to make a perfect horizontal alignment. It looks like they could have gotten meshed in the wrong way. I had zero problems when I put mine together, but I can see how easy it could have been for them to goin the wrong way. I drew a little picture below, it’s sorta crappy, but explains it. Anyway, you are doing a great job with it. I’m glad to see you adopting the other lonely rescue dog from the SOD. -
I think there are some trumpeter accuracy issues here too. notice in the picture, the oval grab handle seems to be lover than on the trumpeter kit. If you follow the lines across, you can see. I also saw how they have a mesh screen and plexiglass window, looks like you have some internal scratch building to do there...

The cotton but is damp, I personally use Vallejo thinner, but you can use distilled water.

Great news from HpH / INFINITY Models
1to1scale replied to 1to1scale's topic in Modelling Discussion
Possibly, first I heard was today. -
News directly quoted by Mirek of HpH Models. Infinity Models will be the brand for injection molded planes from HpH. There will be no more new resin kits from HpH except some large model projects like the Me-323 Gigant and maybe SR-71 in 1/32.

I was contemplating all the started/unfinished builds I have from 2018 and 2019, and came to startling conclusion...I actually finished more than I thought! So here are the finishers... 1. 21 Century Zero. This was a quick two week build, I wanted a Zero to sit next to my Pearl Harbor P-40. Mostly OOB, just added AM gauges and decals. 2. Hobbycraft P-51/Mk.1a/F6A, Normandy. I finished this build just before the local Show in November, I don’t have a final photos, they will come later. 3. Trumpeter MIG-15. This build started as a weathering study, but ended up getting many AM, resin, PE, brass, aluminum, and scratchbuilt components, and it was shaping up to be an epic build. Sadly, my decision to use a clay/water wash reactivated the chipping fluid through the clear, ruining several layers. I pressed on trying to hide it using more weathering, this is where disaster #2 happened, in a sleep deprived brain fade, I used oils instead of streaking, and the whole aircraft turned pinkish brown. As you can see on one side, I did manage to clean off some of the oils, but also did damage to the metal finish. In order to get it to the show, I ended up covering the wings in snow effect, however, it will be stripped and repainted in 2020. 4. Dragon/Platz Panzer IV. Incredible OOB build, lots of detail, all new molds, low parts count, and superb fit. This was also my first attempt and tank weathering. 5. Tamiya Early Tiger. This was another fun build, until I decided to build a set of RFM tracks...5 pieces per link, 92 links per side, yes...900 pieces! I added gauze netting and a resin barrel. It was a simple build, simple kit, but at the November show, it took 2nd in a very strong field! I’m not sure how it beat some of the other tanks, but grateful. 6. Trumpeter Mi-4p Hound. This was my oddball build of the year, I fell in love with this goofy shaped helicopter when I saw it, but then found out it served a longer career in civilian than military life. I scratchbuilt many, many, features. one of my favorite builds, it really stretched the limits of my abilities. Alas, it ends up being moved around to different categories, never finding any love.

Crap, I can’t tell.

Just eying it up, it looks like they used the lif on the ball turret opening as the start for the cockpit cover. I think you went one bulkhead back too far. Hard to tell, but it’s just my opinion.
