Very late group build entry, Marder III.

I did camo work and some more chipping, I also started working on the tracks, getting them covered in pigment. -

Looking nice! -
Think of them as reverse decals, the glue goes n the paper, followed by the ink, then a film goes over the top. You apply like a normal decal, following their instructions exactly, then when dry, peel the top film off, no carrier film left. my Tamiya Corsair used them, perfect!

Yes...and no.

Pretty close! There was a hobby shop in DFW that had one for a while, the box was BIG!

Don’t discount the Trumpeter Migs, most are pretty good, there are definitely “A”, “B”, and “WTF” teams. The Mig 19 and 21 are really, really good. And I have proven you can even vastly improve the 15 and 17, and while the 23 and 29 have a few accuracy issues, I personally don’t consider it a deal breaker.

Looking good, I like them all. That 61 is the prettiest plane the Japanese built in WW2. -
Red!?!? It’s funny, because the oddball colors that nobody wants end up being the most expensive cars many years later.

So the wife told me to get rid of 10 kits from the stash...
1to1scale replied to ScottsGT's topic in General Discussion
I keep my stash trimmed down, and I only have two duplicates. I have a few versions of some aircraft, like the FW-190, P-51, and F-4, but all deferent versions. But I still have a lot, most were bought when I got into the hobby, I have stopped buying a lot lately since I am employment challenged, but I actually have been build more now. I only did 4 completions in 2018, 7 in 2019, and I am finishing up three this month. I hope to try to get at least one build done per month. But anyway, I keep good records of my stash, right now is at 218 +/- 2 or 3. -

I have always wanted the 1/200 Yorktown, but that would be a very long term build. -

I certainly hope the ones you get are better than the pictures I have seen so far. Please post some pictures when you get them. Edit: Yes, I had played around with making my own vac turrets, but came to an issue I didn’t know how to overcome. I had a new idea, but needed to get a second set of transparencies to give it a try. It was then that I heard of three different companies working on a solution, so I put the whole kit on the back burner. If I don’t hear of anything new coming along, i might go back to my original plan of just making a set of top domes to replace the kit parts. -

I think there was a Revell Ar-196, a Wingnut, and a Tamiya tank or two. We do these get together at least every couple of months, then we have an Monday night show-n-share first Monday of every month. -

Captain, the real big issue is the turret. The seam is impossible to make disappear, the Vac turrets off eBay are terrible, very wavy and distorted. A good set of aftermarket turrets, at least a good set of clear vacs, are sorely needed. I have a whole mess of aftermarket items, and a mostly completed interior, just waiting for something to improve the turrets. I keep hearing promises of turrets from various sources, but nothing ever comes, 13 months after this came out...still nothing. -
Revell Bf-110. Anyone know this kit? Thoughts?

That’s funny, I remember when Dragon was clearing these out a couple years ago and at one point you could buy three version for about $30, you can still find them selling today for $60. I gave away a few as gifts and kept one of each for myself. And the later boxing still have errors in the sheets, that’s something Dragon wants to stay famous for. -
Tim, PM me, I have a few things I’m not going to build that you might be interested in. I will make you a heck of a deal.

Put that Sherman together, then when finances allow, buy the Tiger.

HpH is probably closest to that, they actually listened to the forums and somewhat release kits that builders want. I believe some of the influence in switching to plastic is the desire to grow. They seem to be pretty good at filling holes, the Helldiver they already released in resin, decals done, research, PE, etc, so it makes sense they make this their first. These releases will all sell the first 1000, which is the batch sizes they plan to release. This really makes sense, build molds, pump out a 1000, sell them, then if it warrants, make some more, the later runs could be done in lower quantities, since they don’t need to recoup the tooling costs. The real trick is to not fall into the trap of releasing a kit that no one will buy. We don’t need another FW-190, or P-51, or Zero. They need to concentrate on the iconic aircraft that are NOT currently released. A couple Japanese bombers? Betty and Kate seem like a couple good ones, maybe a new tool Mig 15 and 17? Dassault Mystere or a Mirage I anyone? How about a Sikorsky H-34, flying banana, Sea King? There is no shortage of good choices. oh, and PLEASE give us a Mig-25!

No whiskey, I don’t drink and model. I keep Iso Alcohol on the bench, the good stuff stays downstairs. Come to think of it, we don’t keep whiskey in the house, only Rum, Silver Tequila, Moonshine (love apple or cherry), and A few varieties of Vodka.
