  1. Very interesting info Peter.
  2. This one is done. https://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/19981-revell-destroyer-escort-rehab-done/
  3. I built this model many years ago way before there was any "after market" stuff. It has been in my attic for quite a while and I decided I'd see about cleaning it up and doing some work on it. I did away with the original guns and replaced the 40mm and 3"50's with one's from Shapeways. I haven't gotten any replacement 20 mm's yet so I cleaned up the kit guns and added PE gun shields. I also added PE railings and radar antenna using some Tom's Model Works PE for this kit. Repainted the whole model with White Ensign naval colors (USN 5-N Haze Gray plus some appropriate blue/gray for the decks). I marked it as the "USS Haynes" as used in the movie "The Enemy Below" using numbers (181) from my decal stash. The model isn't a exact match to that ship but close enough I think. The REAL ship in the movie was the USS Whitehurst. I hope you guys like the results of my efforts! See the "before" photos to get some idea as to what the starting point looked like. I'm happy with the way it turned out and may do more ships in the future. Remember....Click on the 1st photo for best resolution and to view as a slide show.
  4. I'm glad you like it Stuart, thanks! Something about those very late war camo schemes I really like. A bit out of the "usual".
  5. Thanks! The Corsairs far out number the T-28's. About 20 or so Corsairs and 4 T-28's.
  6. Thanks Stuart. I decided that was the only way to get a half way decent P-51B. I may do another at some point.
  7. Thank you Peter. The Aires cockpit did require some trimming, etc but nothing to cuss about. LOL
  8. Completed and RFI. https://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/19978-hasegawa-bf-109g-14-rfi/
  9. Remember to click on the 1st image for best resolution and to view as a slide show. Mo betta that way! Another '109 in the books. After market items are a Aires cockpit, Barracudacast spinner and props and FineMolds belts. Painted with Testor's MM enamel, Tamiya acrylic, Gunze acrylic, Ammo acrylic and Aeromaster enamels. Decals are all from my decal stash. Sure do like those very late war color schemes!
  10. They have a good start but we will have to see.
  11. Thanks Peter. I have another Bf-109K-4 coming that I got on ebay so there will be another '109 in the stable later on. It too will be finished in a very late war camo scheme. (I like those late war Luftwaffe camo schemes! LOL)
  12. Well along on this one. Next will be some exhaust staining.
  13. I needed something to hold the model since I kept knocking something off. This fills that bill just fine!
  14. I like to have something on the bench always. I hate waiting. LOL
  15. Yes, very neat!
  16. I've been working on this kit off and on while working on the Destroyer Escort. Just to keep something on the bench in between pausing on the DE.
  17. I did some work on the kit 20mm's. Filed down the molded on "shields" and replaced them with PE one's. Looks better but I still intend to replace them with some from Shapeways or some other source. The 3" 50's and dual 40mm are slated to show up Monday. The stand I put the model on was with the 1/350 Buchanan kit and with a bit of "adjusting" fit well here. That way I don't have to physically handle the model and risk breaking something, etc.
  18. Thanks Chris. I hope to get it finished some time in the next few days. Still waiting for the Shapeways guns to show up. Doing some debating with myself about whether or not to try to rig it. It would really add to the looks but would be VERY tedious, etc too. I might just do a minimal amount and let it go at that.
  19. Not too bad for a old already built model that has resided in the attic for many years. LOL Cleaned up pretty well. I expect the Shapeways guns to show up in a day or two.
  20. Agreed, Thanks! Still a long way to go.
  21. Making some good progress with the PE stuff. All railings and antenna are now attached. Tedious work for sure. I'll have to do some straightening up in a few places but I'm very glad to have this part done. The Shapeways 3" 50's and dual 40 mm should be here later in the week. I'm still trying to find some 20mm's but may have to use the old kit ones. Might clean up okay with a little work plus the armor shields are on the PE set so we will have to see.
  22. Came out really nice Peter. The two models look great next to each other.
  23. LOL Peter. That's something you just don't forget! 😄
  24. I flew in a T50 once as a back seat passenger. Some guy brought his daughter, about 10 or so, along. She got air sick and barfed all over ME. Not a fun thing!!!
