Wp Looking mighty good. I've been using Micro Set and Sol since the 1070's and they just work for the most part. I've heard the same but not so sure. -

Carl Seems all of the tall and thin bottle of whatever we use, always find a way of tipping over and emptying out all over the bench. Would be great to see some of the time tested products have their bottles/containers redesigned to possibly be a lot steadier on their fee. As the modeling crowd grows older. our spill/knock over rate increased dramatically. -
Thanks John, very much appreciated. Welcome aboard and looking forward to your build's here on the forum.

Marks Paint masks? _ awesome paint work for sure🏆 -
John Having grown up, still living on Long Island with all Grumman and Republic Aviation aircraft (both long gone) are near and dear to me. Terrific choice for another 48th scale project and your time-tested building/painting technics are working like a charm. One awesome front office and so well worth the 'high cuss factor' - detail work is spot on and perfectly done. Yup, takes a lot to get use to working with the smaller parts but you have 'easily' proven it can be done by us Senior Builders. Hard for me to comprehend the progress you made in the few days I took off for a medical procedure and then a consultation with my doctor and low and behold, the Wildcat is basically together. Can't wait to see your Wildcat as she works her way through the paint shop. I'm enjoying building more in 48th scale aircraft myself, with Tamiya and Eduard at the top of my list. Just in my Grumman section of the stash, I have three Eduard Hellcats and am getting ready to purchase an equal number of Eduard Wildcats, after seeing what gems they are in your capable hands. The tricolor early war schemes are my favorite and glad that's the paint scheme you're going for. Of course, paint colors are always a hot topic and I'm betting you are going all enamels (money in the bank). For me it's usually lacquers these days; MRP, Mr Color or AK. Looking mighty good

Looking mighty good. -
Carel Some mighty nice work on the front office and the seatbelts look the part as well - getting PE belts to look natural is an art unto itself. Only suggestion would be a light wash on the belts and you're there for sure. After building two Sea Fury's, the Fisher version (the cream of the crop) and the Airfix kit, you're so right in that so little can be seen when the fuselage is closed up, especially when the cockpit is all black. Almost another case of adding details that will nearly never be seen, but the 'office' is normally the only area I go the extra mile in detailing, as it's the one area everyone wants to look into and see what's going on. .

Rob, Thank you for the very kind words and comments on the Sea Fury. My preference has always been to build my models as if my display case was a miniature museum, where all the aircraft and models have been restored to pristine condition. Only weathering I tend to do on the exterior is a bit of oil washes, panel lines and maybe some exhaust staining. Cockpits normally have a bit more wear but that's about it. Even in the days when I owned my own airplane, I spent a lot of time washing and waxing her.

WP Decaling looks perfect and completely, there is nothing as wonderful as working with Cartograph decals. Nice tip on the bottle holder. Of course, I went the easy route and bought a few of the 3D bottle and glue holders, which have more then paid for themselves in NO spills or disasters. -
Oliver The matt looks so good. OH no, second thoughts on a desert scene; if not, what would be the next choiceâť“

Carl So glad lady Luck was on your side and rescued the 'lost' parts before the carpet monster had a chance to devour them.
-
John Gorgeous Wildcat. Fit and finish is superb. Right with you on wishing Eduard would rediscover 32nd scale and the Wildcat would be a perfect choice for them.

John Beautiful work and the cammo and finish are top shelf. What's next? -
John Has to be a record in awesome work and at Superman speed. Heading over now.
-
Thanks Harv, so very much appreciated and so glad you're back on the forum and checking in. Keep fighting Buddy and before you know it, you'll be back at the bench.
-
Much appreciated Kev - we seem to forget all the pitfalls and obstacles during construction, when the build is done. In the end, worth all the work. Betting the same with your Whirlwind build.

Thanks, Mike, for the very kind words. A tough build for sure but in the end, she is a beauty and headed for the display case. Just have a soft spot for Sea Fury's - classic in design and raw power in the skies.

Nice start and should work out just fine. -
Thanks Gus Very much appreciated. Completely agree on how rugged and tough Sea Fury's looked - one of my favorite WWII/Korean aircraft. Just wish another 32nd scale kit would come along, close to the quality of the Fisher kit.
-
John, right with you. Sure wish Tamiya would sell stock in their tape division! đź’˛
-
John Terrific paint work on the cammo - looking so good. You're flying through the P-40 for sure.
-
John, Very much appreciated. Lots of work and mountains of Tamiya tape to get the Sea Fury across the finish line.

DONE AND IN THE BOOKS The Sea Fury has crossed the finish line. The final assemblies and the remaining small parts have all been added: The main gear was installed; a little sloppy in fit but referring to scale plans and some very good reference images, the gear looks the part. The tail wheel assembly also needed a bit of finesse, not a great fit but it’s installed as well. The remaining few details that were left off until the end, as I knew I would so easily have broken them during construction were now added: The retractable footstep and the pitot tube. The landing and IFF lights were just decals for the undersides of the wings (pretty poor idea in my book). Last parts to be glued into place were the kit prop (the prop blades surely appear to be on the skinny side), the Barracuda spinner and finally, the canopy. Calling her done and in the books. Looking back on the build, there were more then a few frustrations, a struggle at times, reasonable part fit and of course models with folding wings, there are always fit issues that need to be dealt with. In the end, the Airfix Sea Fury looks the part, a nice addition to the collection. Please excuse the Sky Type S color in some of the photographs, as the actual color is a bit hard to reproduce correctly in Photoshop.

Oliver Amazing work - and the weathering; just so realisticâť—
