Revell/SH Hawker Tempest in 1/32-Finished

Kev Exactly. It took me a while but I thought I finally figured out the wheel well assembly but I just couldn't get the main gear installed. More then willing to bet I screwed up the gear walls and that led to a nightmare and disaster for me. -
What is on your bench right now ? Share a picture :)

Carl Always good to fill up any empty spaces on the bench with another build. Need a clue to know what you are buildingš§ -
Paul That's what I also heard - Tamiya's report card on decals is greatly improving.
-
Thanks Phil I'm going with the kit decals for the P-38F. Tamiya decals are getting better and thought I would give them a shot. I even saw on a review that the mask set for the F-38 is now dye cut - if so, that's great.
-
Paul Go for it, nothing like a Tamiya kit for pure enjoyment and a great build.

Hi Kev Absolutely correct. The only real issue I had was the horrible but colorful instructions that were completely useless for the gear and front office. I just couldn't get the gear to fit, no matter what I did and eventually, the Tempest went right past the SOD, into the bin and donated to our recycling bin and gone! Since then, I've seen builds done where the gear is on but never a clear photograph of exactly how they did it. Took me a while to figure out the cockpit as well as the colorful instructions aren't that clear either. I still want to buy another one (no not a glutton for punishment) but would first need to see some clear photographs on how the gear should be installed. The front office wouldn't be an issue as I have the Quinta set for it. Will be following with great interest. š -
Thanks Gaz Very much appreciated.
-
Bill Nice start on the ZM Nick - good looking aircraft and will be a treat to follow your progress.
-
Much appreciated John Absolutely agree 100% - Tamiya kits are hard to beat - precision, fit, detail and engineering.
-
Thanks Rob Surely getting there and quite happy at how she is coming along. Detail and fit are superb.
-
Oliver Perfectly done - the amount of detail is so brilliantly done.

PREPPING FOR PRIMING A few small seams needed attention (strictly the builders cause) and once done and onto the tail booms. Tamiya magic at work: the turbo charger assembly (step #1) has tabs at both ends, the front holds itself in place and the rear tab will lock the tail boom (step#2) in place for permanent gluing. Itās absolutely imperative you follow the instruction sequence or trouble for sure. The horizontal stabilizer and rudders were glued into position ā solid and sure. I thought I would get a jump start on prepping for priming while newly glued parts were drying and would tackle the intricate canopy masking, or so I thought. Up to the Tamiya P-38 kit, the masks need to be carefully cut out as they are not die cut. Normally in 32nd scale, no issues but for me in 48th scale, I couldnāt keep straight and true on the lines and curves, just too small for these old eyes. Nothing else to do but place a small order with SB for the Eduard mask set and a few other items and wait for delivery. In the meantime, I went to work finishing up all the smaller assemblies and parts that needed to be added prior to priming. If timing works out right, I should have everything ready for priming when the mask set arrives. First up was the front canopy and gunsight ā remarkable detailing and fits like a glove. The front windscreen is resting in place and it would be nice if I sat in place correctly for the pics. I finished painting and adding all the detailed parts for the turtle deck and the detail and fit was brilliant. The only issue was fitting the pilotās seat in place, as itās a tight fit. Initial tweaking didnāt help and then I found the culprit: the nose wheel bulge ā kept interfering with the pilotās seat nestling down into place ā fixed and done. Not sure how or why I had the fit problem but easy enough to fix. The wind screen is just resting in place and it would have been nice if I actually seated it correctly.
