  1. Let the fun begin! A big Grumman Duck has been my #1 Grail kit ever since I got back into modeling 25-30 years ago. Jeez, it’s been that long? Ugh….Im old. I’m starting with “sprue” removal.
  2. Are you confusing me with John?
  3. Anything someone with experience building or working with 3D printed kits? What NOT to use to clean the surface before priming? What to use? Planning on Mr. Color Primers.
  4. I was thinking more like Carol Ann from Poltergeist because this kit scares me. 😱
  5. Sounds like you’ve had quite the adventure! Good to see you back. Also glad to hear you found someone that appreciated your builds and took them off your hands. I hate to think one day mine might wind up in one of the county dumpsters down the road from me.
  6. My turn! This will be a first for me. Well, several firsts. 1). First time I’ve had the bench already cleared and ready for the new arrival. 2) First printed model I’ve ever built. 3) First model I’ve ever spent this kind of coin on. I’ve come close if you consider kits + AM. Not gonna lie. I’m a little intimidated. I know nothing about 3D printed parts. What cleaners can I use before priming? Instructions mentioned priming before any paint goes on. CA and epoxy I assume are the only glue options. Maybe some white canopy glue too. Definitely won’t be cracking open the Tamiya thin cement or my sprue goo this time around. I think my first task will be cleaning off all the printing supports and priming each part individually before any assembly.
  7. It’s herrrree!
  8. Woohoo! Out for delivery! Three days early too!
  9. I’m calling that revenge for all those food pics you’ve been posting. 😁
  10. Mine has “We'll add a delivery date as soon as your package starts moving.” But if I go to details… says the 19th delivery date.
  11. Mmmmmm….. Peking Duck is best duck. My Peking Duck story. Being from the east coast and SC, my exposure to Chinese food is the typical Chinese buffets in strip malls or older restaurant locations. I really enjoyed Chinese lunch buffets during the work week. (And my waistline showed it). We use to go once a week. About 17-18 years ago the wife took me to San Francisco to a work conference. One evening we went to dinner with 3-4 other couples at the conference. Hotel Concierge recommended a place in China Town. “Go down XXX street to the green door with #6 (arbitrary number, cannot remember the exact number) on it. Go through the door, go up the stairs and take the door on the right. What ever you do, DO NOT open the door on the left. Now keep in mind, there were no signs of a business, much less a restaurant, posted anywhere. Just a metal green door on the street with #6 painted on it about 4” tall. Opened the door on the right and entered a huge, big beautiful dining room with huge gold and crystal chandeliers hanging over each table, wall to wall oriental carpeting and decorations, waiters all wearing black pants, finely pressed white shirts, all clean cut and bending over to assist getting us seated and waiting on us. That was the best damned Chinese food I ever ate in my life. All the couples bought a different plate and we made our own “buffet”. Peking Duck was to die for. When I got home, I could not go back to our Chinese buffets for 6-8 months. It just wasn’t real Chinese food. But to this day I still wonder what was behind that door to the left
  12. Good grief. I sold a couple more kits on eBay over the weekend. For some reason the eBay shipping calculator was telling me Priority shipping was more than I sold the kits for and what I charged for shipping combined. When I calculated shipping using their system it told me about $17. Today they wanted to charge me $36. I only got $34 with shipping and that’s before fees come out. I recalculated with FedEx home delivery for $19.
  13. Good to hear from you again Ernie! Thought maybe that new biplane ate you alive.
  14. From Lukgraph. I wonder what that could be? 😁 quack-quack!
  15. That’s a shame. Almost ordered that big B-36 when it came out. Don’t think I’d have a place to display it.
  16. Hubert, looks like paradise! When we did the cruise around the UK last month, our sommelier on the ship was from Bali and was telling us we needed to add Bali to one of our destinations. Now the funny part….my wife didn’t even know there was a place called Bali. I might surprise her with a trip there next year
  17. Check this out. Package I’m watching and waiting on. Look at the times. Must be stuck on some conveyer belt like luggage at an airport baggage claim.
  18. Beautiful work!
  19. Looks like it’s time to man up and place those preorders, boys. I just did. With FedEx shipping, just a few bucks shy of $400 Yea, that’s gonna sting for a while.
  20. Yea, I think all the dust I didn’t blow off before taking pics adds to the weathering. 🤣 But my goal was a very subtle weathering. Sometimes I feel less is more. Thanks for the kind comments!
  21. Finally done. https://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/20689-p-40k-finally-done/
  22. Finally! Spring projects had me pumping the brakes on this project. Don’t know why it surprises me. Happens every year at this time. Spent the past couple of days focused on getting it done.
  23. I love it! People think all of a sudden they’re invincible against mud and trails because their car/truck has a little sticker on it “All Wheel Drive” or 4x4. They don’t realize a certain amount of knowledge goes with that. One of my favorite sayings…”A Winch will just get you stuck further out in the woods or trails.” I watched my son and his friend learn this the hard way. Unfortunately they dragged me into the drama a time or two. Happiest day of my life was when I took the Samurai away from my son.
  24. Rolled across the stage today at Mecum. High bid was $275,000. Everyone discussed holding the reserve above $300,000. The owner got cold feet and lifted the reserve when it hit top dollar. My son and his crew are a bit upset because of how the boss lied. They already had it scheduled to take to Atlanta to a GM Muscle car dealer that said he could get them $325k all day for it. I told him at the end of the day, your boss is a car dealer. Keep that in mind. They pulled about $75k profit, but left money on the table. My brother was the same way when he was selling cars. EDIT: I forgot about the buyers fees. Actual sale price was $302K.
