  1. I use to work at a movie theater. Does that count? Somewhere I have the original movie poster for Midway and I think Tora,Tora,Tora. Fun fact, I also worked there with now Senator Tim Scott that ran for President and is on the short list for VP with Trump. When Tim announced he was running, first thing that came to me was, “Whaaaaa…Tim, you’re too nice of a guy to wallow this deep in the mud with the pigs.” If you’ve ever heard the story of the Chick-Fil-A owner that mentored him as a young man, I knew him as well. He actually lived in the same neighborhood as my in-laws.
  2. Bench time is on hold temporarily. Working on the hot tub steps I over did it a little. I’m having back spasms that are wanting to hang around a little longer than expected. Tried sitting at the bench but the spasms kept causing Tourette’s type four letter words. So here I sit in my recliner and the wife in hers with her cast on her leg. What a fine mess we’ve gotten ourselves in! Strange thing is, back was worse yesterday but sitting at the bench wasn’t a problem.
  3. Just a tip on what I learned this week painting my G Factor brass gear on my He 111. I did the typical prep with polishing off the casting seams and sanding them down to 600 grit. Whipped out my trusty Mr. Surfacer primer and blew on a couple of coats. Came back the next day to do some fine sanding. Primer was flaking off everywhere the sandpaper touched it. I could easily remove it with my fingernail. Dangit! I forgot Mr. Surfacer is formulated to bond to plastics and other paint. Wiped it all off with lacquer thinner and went out to my garage and grabbed a spray can of self etching Krylon primer. Funny thing is, it was almost a perfect match for RLM 02 Laid on one to two thin coats and all is good now. Mr. Color stuck to it with no issues.
  4. Ok Rob and Carl, I submitted. I just ordered a couple sets of the WWII USAAF colors. All the Navy and Marine colors were sold out at Andy’s.
  5. More fiddly bits getting painted…..
  6. Yea, I’ve watched some kit reviews. I’m stoked about this one. Just ordered the Zotz decals before they became unobtanium. I may be building two twins in a row. My Christmas raffle score of a Sprue gift card is ready to be cashed in!
  7. Chico the Gunfighter is what I’ve been planning for my E kit. I bought all the gun pods from Harold before he retired.
  8. Now we just need that J/K.
  9. There are tricks…… cash back on grocery or store runs is the easiest. Just a small bit at a time. Sell your plasma is another. Then there is also being the neighborhood jiggalo in a retirement community. Thankfully it hasn’t gotten that bad yet. But the positive side is they might just let you have your new kits shipped to their place. Then smuggle them into the house at your convenience under the cover of darkness or when she’s at the hair dresser.
  10. Wow, looking at Roman coins that look as new and detailed as the change in my pocket. That’s pretty impressive! Dad use to bring home change from his TDY trips in the Army Air Corps then USAF from ‘47-‘77. I use to have a bunch of them but when he died I gave his collection and mine to my oldest son that got into collecting them. I did keep all of his US Mint Walking Liberty silver dollars.
  11. Yea, my 2015 Mustang has a ZF designed 6 speed manual but built in China.
  12. This was one of my reasons for trying to get my build area organized. I had no idea what I had in my old shop and would just order another bottle when I was putting in an order for supplies. When I was organizing things the old Steve Erkil line kept popping up in my head. “Did I do that?”
  13. Funny story….my wife cannot sit still. Constantly moving. On the treadmill, walking outside or running. She use to run 5, 10K’s and a few marathons. Everyone that knows her knows this. She’s like the Energizer Bunny. Her coworkers were asking her how were you going to survive not moving and OMG! How is Scott going to survive with you at home??!! Today has been her first day without the distraction of grand kids. Yea, we I kept them yesterday since their daycare was closed. She ordered a knee scooter off Amazon before she left Colorado. I put it together for her yesterday. She now reminds me of one of the grands riding around the house on a new toy on Christmas Day.
  14. I tell you what, if you go down the correction path like Thierry Laurent has posted over on LSP, you will be at it for a while. That guy has an eye for detail and I just did a pick and choose of the most obvious boo-boos. The battle damage patches are the biggest. Aftermarket intakes are a must. EDIT: I see you have them already. Laminar Flow Design just released what looks like a great set. I have one EJ kit, and it’s getting the yellow and blue panther squadron treatment. Almost pulled it off the shelf for the twin build. But just finishing up the J, I needed a change of pace. Verify the EJ externals like slatted wings and stabilizers match your subject. EJ was different than a regular E. I think it’s more like a late model E?? I’ve found it easier to assemble the back end of the fuselage after painting. Stabs, lower half behind engines and the vertical stab. Once that’s done I add exhaust. I only have one of each, E & EJ, in Tamiya. But I stocked up on Revell kits like I was trying to corner the market.
  15. Thank you brother! Then again, right now I can run from her and I don’t think she would kill her caretaker, cook, housekeeper, driver and all around whippin’ boy.
  16. With my latest order of paint arriving for my He 111 build I realized I can no longer just toss the bottles up on my rack and go hunting for the needed color when time comes. I just spent a little over an hour rearranging my paint shelves. I now have dedicated shelves for FS/RAF/RLM and WWII Army/Navy colors. Also made space for “extra stock” because I was not keeping track of how many extras I’ve been tossing in with order I’ve placed since I built this system and switched over to lacquer. We’ll see how this works out for now. But I do need some projects to burn through all this Tamiya acrylic I still have. Is it obvious that I have not built any WWII Army/Navy models yet?
  17. She’s actually not experiencing any pain as long as she doesn’t put pressure on it. Kind of odd. I think she’s enjoying me being her servant a little too much though! But we’re still not cleared on the no surgery. We go back next Wednesday to get another healing progress X Ray and then we’ll know. Im playing in “my space” downstairs right now while she’s binging HGTV to come up with new ideas for me.
  18. Rob, yes please. Reach out anytime to one of us if you need parts like this. As long as there are no export regulations I’ll gladly help out. I know sometimes chipped devices can be sketchy. I remember a story of a guy in the US that got in hot water for selling a Sony PlayStation out of the US on eBay of all places. Apparently it has a chip set that the military decided they needed in guided missiles and that model of the PS could only be sold in the states.
  19. Yea, just told her that I hope she doesn’t expect me to wait 6-8 weeks before I get back in the hot tub.
  20. Mark, I’m not sure which pylons the the Tamiya C/D kit comes with, but if you need a set from a J let me know. I just finished the Blue Angels bird and didn’t use them.
  21. I did some googling and one of the biggest differences I could find was the Air Force was using Navy style pylons. https://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/2/t/133928.aspx
  22. Ernie, you know that brings up an interesting point. She borrowed ski boots from some friends that they stayed with. And she said they were a size too large. Might have saved her leg from a worse break.
