Ok, wife’s mouse pad arrived!

Those big bottles are hard to find around here. Seller had it listed for $80. I paid her $60 for it and had to drive almost an hour one way. I’ve got a friend that works for the local beer, wine and liquor distributor. She said she thinks they have one in the back, but still cannot find it.

And she brings this home. I kid..I kid. I actually found it locally on eBay and it didn’t sell. Contacted the seller, met her yesterday and bought it cash in hand. I had no idea it was still full of wine. But the cork leaks, so it’s 6 liters of vinegar I’m sure. Going to make an “Art Deco” light fixture with it. I have a high wall separating the kitchen from the family room that does not go to the ceiling. well, here. Here’s a pic. I’m going to build a bottle holder with it tilted down and hanging over the ledge. I’ll have to drill a hole in the bottom of the bottle, run a wire through it and let it hang down about 3’-4’ and put a hanging light socket on it. I bought one of those huge Edison bulbs with the twisty LED filaments inside it I’ll use. I was shocked when the wife was on board with my crazy artistic plan. And when I told her I was going to replace the wall sconce in the stairwell with a similar bulb and using an old glass power line insulator, she didn’t blink an eye. See guys, this is the trick. Start with “art” she likes. By the time I’m done, I’ll have that 116” wingspan Stearman hanging upside down in the family room up here! It’s 19’ to the peak.

If you look at my wet build progress pics you can see it still sitting on the top shelf of my bench. One day…

Just an update…wetting the wood did the trick. It would take a chisel to get that stuff off the wood now. I did get some drying cracks, but I can go back and fill those in.

Nope, not a kit. My shipping email for the Spitfire deal. Got a tracking number last week for delivery today. When I click the tracking link it takes me to a shipment from Tamiya that is getting delivered to KY. Currently preparing for delivery, will be there today. Ok, I’m hundreds of miles from Bowling Green, KY. If I log into my UPS account and look up my deliveries coming, there’s the correct tracking number and it’s in town preparing for delivery. Now I just hope I’m getting the right kit. My luck I’ll wind up with some wrong scale 1/48 crap. Or maybe an RC car? 😁

Wouldn’t that be ironic! Just maybe the balloon was sent up to get close up pics of the F-22 for R&D? Think it will come with a balloon kill decal? How about a balloon in the kit as well? Just got my TBM-3W decals from them last week. Shipped out same day. Sat in customs in Warsaw a couple days and then NY Customs a couple days. Pay close attention to the shipping options. My order first popped up with the highest cost option, but lowest cost for a sheet of decals (with tracking) was still $15.

Gotta love owning velociraptors.

Those ideas are probably from recent MBA graduates they hired. They just don’t get how cheap us old farts are! Especially when it’s online a click away.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. For the life of me, cannot figure out why not a few holes punched in it from the mini-gun and let it slowly descend where it could have been recovered intact.

We were joking around earlier today that we were surprised our governor didn’t send up the SCANG’s F-16’s to shoot it down. Just imagine Foghorn Leghorn telling the world that he was protecting the sovereignty of the great state of South Carolina. Yea, his nickname is Governor Foghorn. Told my buddy he’s on his last term as governor and can’t run again so he didn’t need the free press.

I was looking into foiling a model and I read on a forum that Edgar sold a home made foil glue from available household products. I reached out to him only to find out that he had passed a month or so earlier. Apparently he took his recipe to the grave with him.

1/2 ply with 3” doubled up on the edges for a total of 1” thick. I don’t think a wet top is going to warp it. Now if I threw it in the hot tub to get it really wet, we might have a problem. Besides, if you varnish it, the clay won’t have anything to bite into. Supposedly it’s the swollen wet wood fibers that bonds the two. And I’m working short sections at a time. Right now it’s just testing. I’ve got to run get some molding for the edges and trim it out so I can proceed.

Think about this for a second. First military shoot down in anger over the CONUS. That pilots going to have some bragging rights.

Just a follow up, watch some YouTube videos. Apparently the trick is to soak the wood surface pretty good with water and then work in the clay. Running a test spot now to see how it works.

I remember this project was announced on LSP some time back. Didn’t see anything on the Flying S website about it. Anyone here got an inside scoop?

It’s not intel I’m worried about. It’s what they may have been dropping from the air that worries me.

My first effort at this. Plywood base, raw and no finish. I picked up a couple of the small buckets of crayola modeling clay at Hobby Lobby. Did a test spot last night where I rolled out a small piece and pressed it into the wood and let it dry. I was hoping it would stick. Even wet one small part under the clay with saliva just to see if it let the clay soak in. This morning the entire piece popped right off with no effort other than touching it. Should I try brushing on some wood glue like tote-bond or Elmer’s white glue before flattening out my clay on the base? How about Mod Podge?

So sorry for your loss Ernie. He sounded like a great man that accomplished what other just dream of.

Saw the one they just shot down from my front yard earlier today. EDIT: I had to convince my neighbor that his .50 BMG would not reach it. But hey, he was ready!

Y’all do realize I’m asking about lacquer paints and you have suggested acrylic colors? I really appreciate the help, but I’m trying to get away from Acrylics and stick to lacquers.

Yea, once I got started I realized I’ve got to do some remodeling in the basement to make room for it. Of course we all understand the “Domino Effect” that comes with it.

Rob, you’re a brave soul taking on all that PE. I bought the 1/200 Trumpeter kit for when I retire. I’m 10 months into my retirement and still ain’t got no time for all that detail. 🤪
