  1. The Revell turned up , it was a complete Richard III ...not worth a tube of glue TBH ....so flashed out for the Hasegawa instead ...equally old but probably a better base.......... yes......... will be buying the Italeri by next Friday no doubt.
  2. I built the same old kit 20 years ago with my young son ( his choice) , it was completely unmemorable . Here is current red peril pencil I'll use as a base. When it gets delivered thought the interwebs from Ebay land , we will commence.
  3. So ...in an alternative universe I thought I'd join a what if GB...and so will share it over here as well as I don't build LSPs much . Cheers Following the 1957 Defence White Paper’s cancellation of manned aircraft development by the ridiculous Duncan Sandys, (Defence Secretary at the time), many promising UK aircraft projects came to a close. As well as wholesale project cancellations, the forced mergers in the UK aircraft industry resulted in English Electric going bankrupt despite having good order books for both Canberra and formally the Lightning. By 1960 the policy of “no manned aircraft” is looking increasingly pointless, and the UK is forced to re-evalute. Industrial espionage by Lockheed, (namely by taking the infamous ‘headless man” pictures from the Duchess of Argyles dubious afternoon activities), then blackmailing Sandys into forcing through a multimillion pound deal to buy 300 of the F104 E (English) for the RAF . Using a licence built J79 (as a slap to RR), although with the new Red Top missiles developed for the cancelled Lighting, they entered service in 1964, just 12 months after Starfighters were withdrawn from frontline US service. A step advance over the Gloster Javelin, the 104’s problems of stability and high accident rate also dogged the UK’s fleet. Eric Brown described the Starfighter as a hot ship, that "has to be flown every inch of the way", but recommended developing the supersonic Buccaneer II instead. In service they became known as the 'Jinx Jet' . Various upgrades came as Lockheed developed the G variant, and later, the proposed purchase of F111’s were intended to replace what had been the short term ‘interceptor problem’. With F111’s also cancelled in 1970, 104E’s soldiered onto into the early 1980’s when they were phased out in favour of UK spec F15s. It remains one of the UK’s worst procurement fiascos up until the recent decision to buy the F35 …another Lockheed “one size, fits no one, and costs way too much” effort. As this is a fun / silly build I have forked out for the cheapest lawn dart as opposed to the Italeri offering, it will be OOB, no AM lipstick for this pig, markings will be masked, and missiles made. Laterz PW
  4. Same tool as I built for the Doolittle raider , used a huge amount of noise weight
  5. I remember reading that the Icelandic models buccaneer was something like 9kgs of resin 😢
  6. She's a big bird for sure , you're getting your exercise in moving all that resin around. 😀
  7. Ok cockpit is now in , fuse in one part , did painting it separately help ....maybe ? Wasn't left with the idea "OMG this is a best method." Remedial filling spraying now done, black spine and tail on . Light black flory wash on to give it a used look and highlight some panel lines. Using tape to remove some of the paint , has given a water damaged aluminium look as per below ? So ,,,,,decals , wings, weapons , wheels and then done .
  8. Domeskis .... meanwhile Lighting is in one part .....
  9. So wrong , Cylons rock You so would ....
  10. ok Boomer......
  11. The sights ...the smells ....the glamour ......😆
  12. I blame Chris Flodberg , his wonderful technique is here:- Link Obvs I used foam approach not the oats thing . His Yamato
  13. Why I shun public transport ...
  14. 😆Oh I know that one for sure😆 ...done a few epoxy water dios over the years , a very quick way of ruining an otherwise nice model & diorama. Leaks , exothermic bubbling , melting foam . .....ah the stuff is such fun . The answer is probably slow cure resin but then you run the risk of leaks / dust ...grrrrr ...lining the bed with aluminium foil worked well for me as a barrier between the foam and the epoxy. Plus, as hard as it is to get correct, they never sell ....go figure ??? I stopped bothering in the end . 🙄
  15. My weekend ..spent layering gloss medium . As dull as it looks . It's white till it cures to clear ., about 30 minutes , then another layer.... For some reason it's producing bubbles , maybe the underlying foam , maybe just natural degassing ? Either way I'm having to pop bubbles with a lighter, shades of chasing bubbles in epoxy waterscapes. Few more layers then start with foam , and then putting the U Boat in position .....getting there slowly.
  16. Saw Firefox in the Cinema when it came out - teenage me though it was very cool , middle aged me thinks it didn't age so well although once he takes off it becomes a more entertaining . All the flashback/PTSD stuff seemed a bit hokey TBH , might have chosen a better pilot than Clint . Wasn't aware anyone had made a IM kit of the aircraft , which certainly looked the part . Should have looked on scalemate I guess 😀 They made a full scale one for the film I believe Nice subject for the GB , lil diorama maybe ?
  17. Crazy good build , the better this gets the less I want to try building one 😆 as I'm vicariously enjoying yours better than driving myself nuts with all that PE and Resin.
  18. Life's too short , bin it ! Twas a nice idea, & nostalgia builds sell a lot of crappy old Airfix, but they don't bring much joy in my world . You've got 'Kit of the Year 2016' sat wanting some love . ❤️
  19. Any more pictures of this particular airframe , she's real sweet .
  20. Woot .......Tomcat back on the Menu ????? Go ! Peter Go !, this should be a cracking build !
  21. He's very cute for a big dog ,
  22. Plasmo (David Demak) did something very similar a while back , might be worth it for some tips ?
