  1. My bad - yes the Infini is also what I use- imported at vast expense from Japan . The Prym is flat that explains why for British . I picked up the notes from the late Des Dellatores' Website when I had a first go at an Academy Camel ... which are Still there in 2024. Just looked back on TOP.......... that build was in 2012 😳, when my skills were nowhere near what I needed to do it justice ...and that project was binned for sure .... Time flies !
  2. .........& I thought getting to grips with my Silhouette machine was 'cutting edge ' 😳* *repeats to self not going down this rabbit hole Bravo to you though Hubert , this will be a build for the books !
  3. That's a bonny build ! I like the colour scheme
  4. I think the home made eyelets and cut tubes ( Albion brass in my case) are probably a bit overscale for 1/48 , more in line with 1/32 ? I cheat with the ezyline and run it as a single continuous thread around the entire bay if possible, so one eyelet does two jobs. (FRAUD !!) Max recommended PRYM thread on his builds , which I also own but have not used yet, as it is clear and probably better for later RAF aircraft? I'm still on the fence a bit with biplanes, I'm doing cheap 1/48 ones as a way of measuring up if I want to take the cost plunge on 1/32 and throw myself into learning the required skills set or just keep on dabbling. Bit like ship building as well with me . At some point I may commit to one of the other , or maybe neither ! 😆
  5. There has been progress ....I was planning to post more when the wings were together
  6. Absolutely wonderful kit , I did the R100 version some years back Really fun build and still sits on my shelves. Link to small build log
  7. All that Pervitin they were taking 😀
  8. 80 years ago the Paras finest hour came to an end . 10,000 dropped, along with the Polish Brigade ; 2,000 returned 10 days later. Five VC's were awarded after the battle. I saw an interview with a Hohenstaufen trooper years ago, who expressed how hard the Paras fought even when cornered and surrounded, still refusing to surrender. "They were not..... mummie's boys" he grimaced. I spent 4 days in Arnhem in 2015 , although the town and bridge were destroyed by the Germans after the battle (with great repercussions for the Dutch townsfolk) and then rebuilt after the war , there is still a lot to see with some well done museums . One for your bucket list
  9. @BlrwestSiR typo ? Glad to see the BBF at work in Belgium , would love to see Vipers in the UK
  10. God forbid....Tamiya's paint range????.... is somewhat in need of an update ????....heresy apparently !!! I tried and didn't get on with Life Colours John, I'm guessing MRPs might be easier if you are ok with lacquers and don't want to be bothered mixing ?
  11. 27 Eur sounds cheap . In the UK sellers were knocking them out for £40 -50 ....the two I bought were clearance sales for half that. Airfix tend to have a particular market esp in the UK with middle aged men who buy "Airfix" more than buy "models" and are happy to pay a premium even if the original maker's is cheaper . You can see it all on a particular forum I won't mention They appear to have done a bunch of re pops in 2020 ahead of their 1/35 Cromwell launch which wasn't recieved that well , so probably wont happen again is my guess.
  12. I've not built that one in particular, but all of Airfix's 1/35 armour ( apart from the Cromwell) are re pops of older Academy models . I have built the Airfix M3 Grant re-popped from Academy and that was good , I also have the M36 to build and reckon that looks ok too . No reason to think the Airfix KT will not be good as well . The KT looks like it has link and length tracks which is nicer than rubber ones, and easier than individual links . I have built a few KTs , the Meng and Hobbyboss are both really good in my opinion , the Tamiya can also build into a nice model with a bit of thought. If you can pick it up cheap the Airfix is probably good value but if you are paying 30-40 Euros there is probably better ones to buy would be my observation ? Here is my panzer next to Dollinger's a few years ago ... Hals und Beinbruch !
  13. I kid you not .... yes...... I did work for them as the global packaging buyer ... yes ....there were in circulation 3 large 48 cavity moulds for this product....... each costing £300K back in 2001 ....and yes the packaging launch completely flopped....... pardon the pun . where are these moulds now , broken up in 2002. Ooops wil; stop here..... have really gone full thread drift, missed this was on a build thread - sorry ...
  14. Typically you test markets and fit/ packing trials etc with samples made from aluminium moulds which are much cheaper than proper steel ones. My knowledge is 10 years ago , but pilot aluminium would be £6-10K and good for 2-3000 impressions before they wear out ...full production £80-90 K...make as many as you need......so if you need to change anything with the design that is a cheap way of finding out . Cutting aluminium obviously a lot easier than tool steel . The mould last less time because they often have only basic cooling circuits. Entirely speculation on my part but looking at the pix on Dacos website can't 100% say for sure , but looking at the 3rd pic down they look to have had had cooling issues with that run as the plastic is charred black . Either that or they got carried away with the mould release ! It's all single cavity as well which suggests test shots ...although , I'm not familiar with model kit production so that maybe normal practice on low volume machines ? Disclaimer All my knowledge comes from buying packaging in relatively high volumes , not model kits
  15. My guess - as iti is am IM kit , that the first run was on cheap alumium piloy tooling as a test, and it will take a while ( and 5000 impression) to make / justify proper tooling
  16. I wouldn't have had the gall to ask for one for Xmas , nor any idea what to do with it when I got it .... hairy sticks and a pile of little airfix tins in the 1970's
  17. £130 for a 1/16 Elephant .."The Ultimate in Kits "...and new Triumph motorcycle was around £700 in 1974
  18. FYI Sometimes building a simple jig to align it all can be helpful . Also might be worth looking at the work of Alexander Pedan for some inspiration ?, he's made some great trucks over the years, although been quiet for a while .
