GazzaS Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 These are painted over a gloss black finish.... And for you "car guys" You can use some of SMS effect paints over the hyperchrome. Just note I have no affilation with this company.... But am growing more fond of it's paints every day. I'll be giving up MRP lacquers as the bottles empty... FYI... I read somewhere that this chrome is much more durable than Molotov. 12 1
BlrwestSiR Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 Looks great. Haven't seen it before. Any idea where to get the stuff? Carl 5
biggtim Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 https://www.scalemodeller.com.au Although I don't see it listed on their website yet, and it appears there very few distributors for their paint outside of OZ. 4

Peterpools Posted December 24, 2021 Posted December 24, 2021 Thanks Gaz Looks amazing and will be checking SMS paints out. Just can’t see switching from MRP which are my go to paints but some serious testing will be in order. Keep ‘em comin Peter 1
nmayhew Posted December 25, 2021 Posted December 25, 2021 Can you mask over it, or even dare go near it? 1
BradG Posted December 25, 2021 Posted December 25, 2021 I got some of their super silver after seeing someone do NMF with it, they look very nice. 1

This is a direct quote from the bloke that makes the stuff: "if your surface prep is good, should be fine but is best to mask everything else and spray the chrome on top rather than mask the chrome and paint around it." Also... FYI I've read you want to use a water-based clear over it to avoid dulling. 1

Hey Gazza, so that sounds like a no then to me - the above is fine for small bits, but for full on NMF i guess it's quite limiting in terms of the order in which you have to do things I'll stick to MRP until someone comes up with the miracle paint but thank you anyway kind regards Nick 1
Peterpools Posted December 27, 2021 Posted December 27, 2021 I’m still not so sure what the issue is on masking over Alclad or AK .... I do it all the time and almost never have had any of the NMF lift or stain. If some does lift, it was the base and primer that lifted off the plastic. I’m careful to only mask with de-tacked Tamiya tape and care needs to be used when removing the tape: never pull the tape straight up or even up but rather back on itself. Of course when I mask over my P-51, the gremlins might just bite. Keep ‘em comin Peter 1
GazzaS Posted January 9, 2022 Author Posted January 9, 2022 Here's a modeller's (not me) current results.
Peterpools Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 Gaz Not sure at what I am looking at; SMS, ALCLAD or AK. Is it masking over SMS? Keep 'em comin Peter
